Outlaw Pro Stocks Join The Show Saturday
At Siskiyou Speedway

Yreka, CA...The season is off to a good start at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. Not only has there been great racing, but last week's Canned Food Drive netted three boxes of canned foods for the local food bank. This week, with community and family in mind, Siskiyou Speedway will have Kids Power Wheel Races during the intermission. Scheduled to appear in another action-packed program will be the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks, Mini Stocks, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Outlaw Open Comp Cars.

2016 Pro Stock champion Steve Borror took a year off from competition, but he came back with a vengeance two weeks ago by winning the season opener pretty handily ahead of Scott Flowers. The night featured a good battle between Borror and Dr. Scott Lenz as both won heat races and Lenz held off Borror to win the Trophy Dash. Unfortunately, Lenz got caught up in a mid-race wreck to end his Main Event early. With these two drivers in the pack, it will be hard for anybody else to get a victory.

Certainly, Scott Flowers is a threat to win the Main Event. The long time Pro Stock competitor has netted numerous second-place championship trophies and is the model of consistency. For Scott, however, the desire to win is equaled by his enjoyment of racing with his family, which includes son James Flowers, wife Ginny Flowers and daughter Julia Flowers. James has progressed very nicely in the last two years and is also definitely a threat to win. The Outlaw Pro Stocks have a great group of racers, and others to watch for this week include Jeff Haudenshild, Bryan Hammond, Matt Harlow, Johnny Cobb, Roy Bain and Dean Hackworth.

It's been an interesting first two races for the IMCA Sport Modifieds. A few of the young guns we've seen for the last couple of years have yet to appear, and Jorddon Braaten and Justin Foux both had to battle Rich McCoy to earn their feature victories. Foux has to be pleased with the performance of his new car so far this season, and he may very well be the man to beat this week.

Two drivers chomping at the bit to make it into the Winner's Circle are Trevor Tiffee and Ryder Boswell. Tiffee has put together a new car this year that he calls Eleanor. She has served him well so far with fourth and sixth place finishes. Boswell, who like his brother Colter came up through the McDonald's Mini Stock ranks, has fifth and sixth place feature finish so far.

Matt Sanders looked good in winning his heat race last week in his new car, but unfortunately he hurt his motor in the process to end his night. There's no word on whether he'll have it back together this week, but Isaac Sanders is coming off of a fifth place finish last time out.

Other drivers to watch for this week include Doug Franklin, Jimmy Lipke and Randy Wright. We're still waiting on the debuts of reigning champion DJ Bottoms, Colton Cheffey and Jack Walden III. We are also awaiting the division debut of Mini Stock star Ethan Killingsworth.

The Mini Stock division so far has seen David Steele post back to back Main Event victories. Steele is the 2015 champion, though he's not expected to make a point run. However, he and teammate Steve Goetz, who finished second last time out, may be in town this week before their season opens in Medford a week later.

Terry Kendrick is somebody expected to be a part of the point chase this year, and he thus far has a third and fourth place finish in his two starts. The class has produced a pair of 12 car fields as a few new drivers have joined the ranks, and other drivers to watch for this week include reigning champion Marilyn Yawnick, 2014 champion Mike Whitaker, Mike Frost and newcomer Darick Alford.

Not much is known about who intends to compete in the Outlaw Open Comp division. What is known is there were drivers asking for the addition of this class. They have cars that don't quite fit the rules in the other classifications, and they want to race at Siskiyou Speedway. Will this be the beginning of something really cool happening at Siskiyou Speedway? Stay tuned.

If you're looking for a fun night of family entertainment, look no further than Siskiyou Motor Speedway on Saturday night. With Outlaw Pro Stocks, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Outlaw Open Comp Cars and Mini Stocks, plus Kids Power Wheel Races during the intermission, it's going to be a night to remember. For further information, go to www.siskiyoumotorspeedway.com.

Rain Cancels Season Opener At Southern Oregon Speedway, Racing Resumes May 5th

White City, Oregon...The four division program set to open Southern Oregon Speedway on Saturday night has been cancelled due to rain and a bad forecast throughout the weekend. Promoter Mike McCann was forced to pull the plug.

Racing will kick off on May 5th with a five division program featuring the Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and JOAT Labs Hornets. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars Set To Open
Southern Oregon Speedway Season

White City, Oregon...The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars, presented by Hays Oil, are preparing to open the 2018 season at Southern Oregon Speedway on Saturday night, May 5th. Due to wet weather and a rainy forecast throughout the weekend, the April 28th opener was forced to be canceled. On May 5th, the Sprint Cars will headline along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and JOAT Labs Hornets.

The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars are now in their third season at the speedway, and this is the second under a rules package designed for affordability and car count growth. In a further attempt to help stimulate car count, long time Sprint Car competitor David Hibbard joined forces with promotor Mike McCann to help with the purse. The result was a solid 2017 season as several young competitors stepped up to join the class.

Hibbard has been competing in Sprint Cars for the past several seasons and is a past champion at Cottage Grove Speedway. Last season, he had a win and three seconds and appeared to be headed for second in points. However, when his son Bailey blew a motor in hot laps at the finale, David graciously stepped aside to allow him to drive the car and battle Merissa Henson for the runner-up position in the championship point battle.

Henson was a model of consistency last season in winning the Rookie Of The Year award and beating Bailey Hibbard by just one point for second in the standings. Marissa turned in one of her better performances in fourth in the finale, and that enabled her take second in the points despite the fact that Bailey Hibbard won his third Main Event of the season.

Bailey Hibbard could be seen as one of the drivers to beat in this season's championship chase. The field is going to gain several new cars, but the youth movement is still an important part of the class this year and in the years to come. Enrique Jaime is coming in off of a fifth place rookie season last year and hoping for better things. Decorated Outlaw Kart champion Tanner Holmes will be back this year after running a few races last season. Tanner could be a championship contender, but word is that the team will still make trips for special Outlaw Open Kart races during the season. Theron Smith and AJ Harbaugh are among the other young guns joining the class this year.

There will be some experienced competitors in the field. This includes past Sprint Car champion Hedge Carter, and Hedge will be joined by son Colby Carter this year. Past Southern Oregon Speedway Sprint Car champion Charlie Thompson has thrown his hat into the ring this year, and Aaron Miller will be competing with us as well. Miller won his first Sprint Car Main Event at Southern Oregon Speedway two years ago. Also back in the group will be Todd Whipple and Outlaw Kart legend Mike Wheeler.

Not to be forgotten in the mix is many time Sprint Car champion Kyler Barraza. Kyler will be racing with us this year, but there was word that he may not be ready for the season opener. All indications are that this will be the strongest season yet for the Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars.

The IMCA Modifieds have been a mainstay at Southern Oregon Speedway since the place opened in 1996. There have been many great competitors to compete on the fast 3/10 mile clay oval through the years. Not the least of which is the most decorated champion of them all, Mark Wauge. Wauge not only leads the division in championships with seven, he is also approaching 50 career Main Event wins in this division, making him the all time winner in this class at Southern Oregon Speedway.

One of Mark's closest rivals in recent years is two time champion Albert Gill. Albert has been competing at Southern Oregon Speedway for two decades and is a threat to win any time he's on the track. Last season, if not for family events that took him from the track, Gill likely would have won his third championship. As it was, he was one of the nine different Main Event winners.

Another of the nine winners was the champion, Jesse Bailey. Bailey has been the most consistent competitor at the track during the past two seasons with more Top 3 finishes than anybody else in this class. Running for the championship wasn't necessarily in his plans, but he none the less added his name to the list of title winners at the speedway.

James Welshonse had a year he'd much rather forget last season, but he's back to see if he can recapture the form that won him Rookie Of The Year honors and a Main Event in 2016. Past Dwarf Car champion CJ Putnam is also anticipated as he is competing in a new car this year. Another force on the track anytime he is there is Jon DeBenedetti, who also has amassed nearly 50 Main Event wins at Southern Oregon Speedway alone. DeBenedetti is a Dwarf Car and Modified champ, and word it is that he will be doing some racing this year in a Modified, owned by Brian Bowman.

The list of competitors is likely to include such hard chargers as Nick Trenchard, Zach Fettinger, Jeremy Ohlde, Ray Kniffin Jr, Preston Jones and Duane Orsburn. Word is that we'll also be seeing past division championship runner-up, Matt Duste. After the rain out, the IMCA Modified racers are ready to go this week.

This season's IMCA Sport Modified lineup includes all three drivers who are two-time champions in the division. Reigning two-time champion Mike Medel will be back to see if he can become the first three time title winner in the group. Jorddon Braaten is certainly a threat to Medel if he decides to focus on running for the local title this year. During the past two seasons, Jorddon has made trips to other tracks for bigger money events. Also in the lineup this year will be Dwayne Melvin, though it looks like the team has some work to do on the chassis after a crash a week ago.

The IMCA Sport Modified division is poised for their biggest year ever. Last season at the R Charles Snyder Salute, over 30 cars competed. This was a record for the division. Last season's top rookie, Jesse Merriman, will be out to see if he can get his first win in the division. He certainly looked fast enough last season. Another driver looking fast and hungry for victory is last season's point runner-up, Willie McFall.

David Marble racked up some 20 Mini Stock Main Event wins in his career as well as a championship, and he's zeroing in on his first IMCA Sport Modified feature triumph. There is a great lineup of IMCA Sport Modified competitors just waiting for their opportunity to go racing. Other drivers to watch for include rookie Joby Shields, who was rather dominant in his time in Hornets, hard charger Justin McCreadie, Braxton Possinger, Tony Duste, Tony Bartell, Bob Thomas, Danny Rule and Lloyd Speer.

The Mini Stock division has been a mainstay at Southern Oregon Speedway since the place opened, and many great drivers have come and gone. Certainly, they don't get much better than David Steele. Steele has already won two races on the circuit this year and has his sights on the top spot on Southern Oregon Speedway's all time Mini Stock win list. The only thing eluding David at his home track is a championship. He's already won one down in Yreka. Steele closed last season with three consecutive feature wins, serving notice that he is still a force to be reckoned with.

One driver hungry for his first win is Kristopher Mix. Mix added his name to the long list of champions last year through consistency, but he would very much love to be a Main Event winner. With the competition as tough as it is, getting wins isn't so easy. 2013 champion Steve Goetz and 2014 champion Gary Anderson are still on the roster. 2015 champion David Marble has his old car and 2016 champion Bob Burkett still has a car in his shop. Things could get very interesting at the front of the pack.

Not to be forgotten is the driver of the fast Pinto Wagon, Andrew Hall. Hall ended last season on a strong note with a heat race win and Top 5 feature finish, despite terrible luck throughout the season. Hunter Magnan had his share of ups and downs and still won Rookie Of The Year honors last season. With a newer car, he's hoping to be more of a factor at the front of the pack. 2016 JOAT Labs Hornet champion Tim Hedges, Mike Cloud and Patrick Stringer-Stine are other drivers to watch for this week.

Jason Stoutenburgh left little doubt who the champion was in last season's JOAT Labs Hornets class. With a dominant run of four straight Main Event victories, Jason cruised to the championship while his rival, Tim Hedges, ended the season with dismal luck. Stoutenburgh may very well be the driver to beat again this year, but he can expect some good competition.

One driver to keep an eye on is last year's second-place driver and Rookie Of The Year, Jenna Hedges. With a pair of Trophy Dash wins, as well as a heat race win, the only thing eluding Jenna is a Main Event victory. She's hoping to change that this year. Husband Tim will still be competing as well as son Ashtin Hedges. However, the Hedges family won't be the only family well-represented at Southern Oregon Speedway in this class.

The Nelson family should be at least three cars strong this year as Darrel Nelson Jr hopes to get his name back on the winner's list again. Darrel won a pair of features in 2016 but could only finish as high as second last year. He did have a Pro Stock win to his credit. Sons Zach and Ryan Nelson both have cars, and they both showed the ability to run with the front runners in their starts last season. Young Gabe Nelson should also see some track time.

One of the young stars to watch this year could be last year's fifth place point competitor, Dylan Irving. Irving came very close to winning a Main Event at the end of the season and did pick up a trophy. Likewise, teammate Brandon Wonsyld will be another driver to watch. There are more cars being built in this class, and other competitors to watch for include Bree Tritchler, Kelli Burton and John Corder.

Rain may have washed away the April 28th event, but the May 5th event is on the agenda. Everything will be ready to go for an exciting five division program. Gates open at 5 p.m. with the first race at 7 p.m. General Admission is $12 with Junior's 6-12, Veterans and Seniors all $6 each. Children 5 and under are free. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

We'll Get The Season Started Yet

White City, Oregon...We're in a holding pattern right now. I'm sure you're looking out your window on a beautiful sunny day. It's Thursday. We've gone over a lot of stuff at Southern Oregon Speedway during these past couple of weeks. The effort has intensified. As I look out the window, we could go racing right now if the weather holds.

There are many things that go through the mind of a promoter as they prepare for a week's race. So many things that need to be taken care of. Is it all ready to go? Then, you look at the weather. Now, this is a controversial subject. It's touchy to some people. If you happen to cancel a race and it looks the least bit like you could have gotten away with racing, you're going to be criticized for canceling the race.

You want ideal conditions. What I would like to see is the kind of weather I'm looking at out my window right now. Sunny skies, mild temperatures. Perfect for opening the season. We had this back in 2016, and it was one of the best nights that we've had in terms of crowd response. When you have gloomy skies, unless you're a die-hard fan, you're less inclined to come even if the race is happening.

This matters to the business model. I don't want to get into all of those details, but you want as many people to come out and watch the races as you can because it pays the bills and keeps things going. Bottom Line. Now, last year, we wanted to go racing. What we had on opening day was cloudy and gloomy skies and the possibility of rain. Because it didn't rain, we went ahead with it. It was not a banner night for the track in terms of attendance.

So, you proceed with the thought that you're opening the race track. Jim Rodgers has been out there working hard to work that new clay in and give us a great racing surface. I can see him stressing on different things, because the man takes what he does very seriously. He wants to give the racers a good racing surface. He's doing everything he can, even today he's working on it.

Mike has been going over his list. So many other things have to be taken care of to get us going. You want a nice grandstand area, and our power wash guy went over the entire grandstands and concession area. It looks nicer than it has for a long time. The concession stands are cleaned and ready to go. The souvenir stand, all of it. We're ready to go racing. Things are lined up. All we need is good racing weather and we can go.

The grass on The Grassy Knoll and the pit area was pretty tall, as you can imagine. It was a wet winter. I don't claim to be an expert in mowing, but the job needed to be done. With Uncle Rich having left us for California, somebody needed to get out there and do it. I volunteered. I definitely feel beat up from all the bouncing around on the mower that I was doing, but I think I did okay for the most part. Probably could have done better, but I've learned a few things to apply to next time. It's still a nicer looking pit area than it was a week ago.

So, the schedule is booked and we have a really great lineup planned. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Late Models and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars. Everybody is just excited to go out and race again. I like what I'm hearing. Our Sport Mod group is looking at bigger numbers this year than ever before, and that translates into a great season for the class. Mike Medel, Jorddon Braaten, Willie McFall, Jesse Merriman, Dwayne Melvin, David Marble and Joby Shields are just a few of the names I'm hearing.

The Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars have already raced a couple of times. In fact, last Saturday they raced, and on Sunday they were doing a car show in Central Point with a meet and greet for the fans. They've got $1,000 lined up for the winner of their first race here. I know the Dwarf Car guys are chomping at the bit to go racing, and we've got some great competitors in the field, like Brock Peters, Josh King, Chad Cardoza, Ryan Smith, Fred Hay, Cody Peters and Randy Slater.

A lot of great competitors still have IMCA Modifieds. Who may race with us is still in the big question. But, names you are familiar with, such as Mark Wauge, CJ Putnam, Albert Gill, James Welshonse, Ray Kniffen Jr,  Preston Jones, Jon DeBenedetti, Zach Fettinger and reigning champion Jesse Bailey are some we are expecting. I believe if the drivers truly get behind the effort, we will have one of the best IMCA Modified shows on the West Coast. I know we have that in our three signature races for the class, the Roger Haudenshild Tribute, IMCA Wild West Speedweek race and the R Charles Snyder Salute. But, there's no reason we can't have strong support for our other shows as well. At least I hope so.

Late Models are lined up and ready to go. This is the second full season for this class since we brought it back. It never really had as much of a chance as we've been giving it, because we believe in Late Model racing. To know that Nathan Augustine will be back to defend his title is great news. Bob Dees and Mike Linder are staunch supporters of Late Model racing, and the Dees boys, Garrett and John, will be out there giving them hell. Dave Foote, Chris Biggs & Miles Deubert are others I'm looking forward to watching.

This really is a nice lineup for the season opener, but now we watch the weather patterns in disappointment. Is it going to rain out? It doesn't look good. What will the weather do? Will it rain? How much will it rain? Will it be gloomy and miserable the way it was for our season opener last year? These are all things that we have to worry about. You want the best conditions possible to open, but if you can race, you want to race too. It's better for the track overall to have ideal conditions. We will get there. It can't rain forever, can it? Look at the weather now. Man, why does there have to be any rain in the forecast at all?

So, I'm looking at the schedule for next week, and we've got our IMCA Modified and IMCA Sport Modified classes back. It's also the season opener for the Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars, presented by Hays Oil. JOAT Labs Hornets and Mini Stocks are also on the card. This is a really good lineup.

There's been a lot of talk around the Sprint Car division. More cars coming and we should be looking at an increased turnout this season. The goal was to build this class up to a level it's really never been at before. Yes, we've had Sprint Car racing throughout the history of this track, but when you think about it, the local Sprint Car effort has never really gotten the kind of promotion it deserved.

David Hibbard is somebody who believes strongly in the class and the rules package as a way to get more young drivers out here. He has stepped in with Dave's Carpet And Vinyl Liquidators to help with the purse. He also will be out there racing along with his son Bailey Hibbard. Both are great racers, and it's really exciting to see the caliber of young talent we have lined up this year. Drivers like our top rookie last year, Merissa Henson, and let's not forget Enrique Jaime and Tanner Holmes. I'm hearing of returning Sprint Car champion Charlie Thompson. Aaron Miller is back with us this year as is Todd Whipple. Hedge Carter and his son Colby Carter. Point is, Sprint Cars are looking good from everything I've heard.

I'm hearing more buzz with Sprint Cars and IMCA Sport Modifieds than any of the other classes, and it's always nice to hear that more cars are coming. The JOAT Labs Hornets should do pretty well this year. The Hedges family will be well represented with 2016 champion Tim Hedges, 2017 Rookie of the Year Jenna Hedges and Ashtin Hedges. The Nelson family will be represented with Darrel Nelson Jr, joined by his sons Zach Nelson and Ryan Nelson. Reigning champion Jason Stoutenburgh, and a couple of young competitors, Dylan Irving and Brandon Wonsyld, will be back. Bree Tritchler and Kelli Burton are part of the field. Again, this class is looking good. It's the gateway into racing on the big track.

This leaves the Mini Stocks, and we have some good racers in this field. We've got reigning champion Kristopher Mix out to see if he can repeat. 2014 champion Gary Anderson is back. 2015 champion David Marble has a car again. Not sure what his schedule is, but we know he's already raced and looks really good in this car. 2015 Yreka champion David Steele may be the hottest driver in the area. Hunter Magnan is out to improve on his Rookie Of The Year and 8th place season from last year. Andrew Hall and Mike Cloud are on the roster. Tim Hedges is going to be running a Mini Stock. I've heard rumors of other cars that I don't have names for, but let's not forget another championship-winning name, Steve Goetz.

The point is, we want to see this season start just as much as everybody else does. Things are lined up. I think we've got all the I's dotted and crossed all the t's. We need Mother Nature to cooperate with us. I know that if we pull the plug on this race, there will be people wondering what if. We'll have critics as we always do. But, Mike is going to make the best decision for the good of this race track, and there will be racing this year. There will be lots of racing.

I've often wondered if you could cover a quarter mile race track somewhere in Oregon. Have a covered track and covered pit area. Then, you're not dealing with rainouts as much anymore. I bet that track would be a big winner. Of course, it would probably cost a lot to build the whole thing. Generally speaking, we have a five-month window to get our racing season in, and even then, rain wants to intrude on us.

But be ready, because some big races are around the corner. The Iron Giant Street Stock Series Disorder At The Border happens on May 19th with the Open Wheel Showcase a week later. Then, the Roger Haudenshild Tribute on June 2nd, followed by Monster Truck Mayhem on June 9th. That's just a sample.

Let us not forget the little Southern Oregon Speedway track, because Karts will be racing on May 18th and 19th. I know rain has claimed quite a few of those races in the last couple of years, but I feel very strongly that we will have our biggest season yet. Judging from the names I am hearing, it should be a good Kart season as well.

The point is, keep the faith everybody. We have a great schedule set for this season, and I strongly believe this is going to be the best year the track has seen in recent memory. And the key to making it that way is all the great competitors who come out and support us at each race. We're here to put on a show for the fans, and I think they will be happy with what they see. Stay tuned!

Foux Wins Feature At Siskiyou Speedway
Steele, Robustelli Repeat

Yreka, CA...April 21... Justin Foux won a good race up front with Rich McCoy to claim the victory in the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event Saturday night at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. The two competitors ran closely near the end with Foux prevailing at the checkers. David Marble turned in a solid performance in third as Trevor Tiffee and Isaac Sanders rounded out the Top 5. Foux also outran Jimmy Ford to win his eight lap heat race, but it was Ford prevailing ahead of Marble in the four lap Trophy Dash. Matt Sanders won the other heat ahead of Marble.

David Steele turned in a dominant performance in winning his second straight 20 lap McDonald's Mini Stock Main Event of the season. Steele bolted into the lead early and rapidly pulled away to over a half-lap advantage over second-place finisher Steve Goetz. Chris Jorgensen out dueled Terry Kendrick for the third position as reigning champion Marilyn Yawnick completed the Top 5. Steele won his heat race by straightaway ahead of Hayfork Speedway champion Andy Blackburn. Goetz won the other eight lap heat in front of Kendrick. Jorgensen won a good battle with Steele for the four lap Trophy Dash victory.

Camden Robustelli won a rapidly paced 20 lap Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Main Event. Robustelli pulled away to about a one-third lap lead ahead of reigning champion Brock Peters. Josh King wasn't too far behind Peters in third as Kalvin Morton, Ryan Smith, Cody Peters and Chad Cardoza rounded out the lead lap finishers. Morton won the four lap A Dash ahead of Robustelli, and King scored the victory in the eight lap B Dash, followed by Smith. Robustelli won a very close battle with Cody Peters to win the first eight lap heat race, and Morton won the second heat ahead of Brock Peters.

Racing resumes next week with IMCA Sport Modifieds and McDonald's Mini Stocks being joined by the second visit of the Outlaw Pro Stock Association and Outlaw Open Comp racing. There will also be kid's Power Wheel races during the intermission and a Mini Stock Ball Toss. For further information, go to www.siskiyoumotorspeedway.com.

Weiser, Fuller, Wheeler Win Outlaw Kart Races In Yreka

Yreka, CA...April 28...The young stars and a few of the young at heart got a chance to race as the Yreka Outlaw Karts opened up their 2018 season at the smaller Siskiyou Motor Speedway track on Friday night. Over 30 Karts competed in this event, and the biggest turnout was in the 250 Kart class. It was a battle of the Weiser brothers for the Main Event victory, and Bodee Weiser collected the win ahead of Braden Weiser. Brionna Fuller finished a solid third ahead of Cale Cunial and Kloey Smith.

Brionna's younger brother Taylor Fuller, who is the reigning outdoor Box Stock champion, won that division's Main Event ahead of Adrian Richard. Keegan Bounds finished third ahead of Brandon Steinhoff and Tyler Steinhoff.

In the Beginners Box Stock Sealed Class, young Mike Wheeler Jr outran Shailene Horn for his first ever win. Mike's father is perhaps the biggest 500 Open Outlaw Kart star on the West Coast, and this was the youngster's third start ever. Medford champion Malachi Johnson finished third ahead of reigning indoor champion Carson Henson and Bentley Chapman. In the Beginners Open Class, Chayce Smith grabbed the victory ahead of Austin Bartholomew, Chevy Reinholdt and Emma Hudman.

In the UAS Speedway Kart class, Larry Fuller outran reigning champion Brionna for to win the Main Event. Ed Grubb settled for third ahead of Lori Fuller and Debbie Medeiros.

The Yreka Outlaw Kart program happens on Friday nights at the little track at the fairgrounds, and the next race is on May 4th. For further information, go to www.siskiyoumotorspeedway.com.

Montgomery, Siewell, Chamberlain Win Coos Bay Features

Coos Bay, Oregon...April 21...It was South Coast Shopper Car Load Night at the races Saturday night at NASCAR sanctioned Coos Bay Speedway. In addition to a car load getting you into a great night of racing for just $23, kids were given lucky rides in some of the race cars. Headlining the show once again was the NASCAR Super Late Model division, and Brody Montgomery scored the victory in the 25 lap Main Event. Montgomery blistered the track with a fast lap of 14.916 and was never really challenged as he won ahead of Thor Kristensen, Chris Ray and Richard Wallace. It was a clean sweep night for Montgomery as he held off Kristensen to win the ten lap heat race and Wallace to win the 5 lap Trophy Dash.

Dyllan Siewell scored the victory in the 15 lap Sportsman Late Model Main Event ahead of the steady Charlie Withers. Mechanical issues ruined the night for both two time champion Wayne Butler and Tom Williams. However, before Butler's night ended, he won both the 10 lap heat race and 5 lap Trophy Dash ahead of Siewell.

Troy Chamberlain outran Ken Fox to win the 25 lap Street Stock Main Event. After getting a taste of victory in the season opener, Fox had the pole for the Main Event and sprinted to the early lead. However, Chamberlain was able to get around Fox and hold him off for an entertaining victory. Michael Hollingsworth was a solid third ahead of David Smith. Jeff Thurman made his season debut, but it ended in mechanical failure in the Trophy Dash. Fox won the 5 lap dash ahead of Smith, but Smith held off Hollingsworth to win the 10 lap heat race.

John Henry collected the victory in the 20 lap Mini Outlaw Main Event. Henry held off Dan Daniels for that win. Reigning champion Sam Talon won  the 10 lap heat race ahead of Henry, but Henry turned the tables on Talon by winning the five lap Trophy Dash. Talon suffered mechanical issues in the Trophy Dash to end his night.

Braden Fugate won a good battle with David Pellum for the win in the 25 lap Hornet Main Event. After winning the 5 lap Trophy Dash, Hannah Robison had the pole for the Main Event, but her race ended early. Jeremy Mayfield was a solid third ahead of Kylea Krossman and Chris Parker. 10 lap heat race wins went to Tyler Tullos and Fugate.

Griff Smith was the first Jr Stinger competitor to race his Hornet. The class was created for drivers 11 to 14 years old, and Smith made laps throughout the night.

The oval track will be dark this weekend, but it returns with Pepsi Night on May 5th. Winged Sprint Cars, NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models, Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws, Hornets and Humboldt Motorsports Side by Sides will all be in action. For further information, go to www.coosbayspeedway.us.

Reed Wins California Hardtop Feature
At Placerville Speedway

Placerville, CA...April 21...Dave Reed won the 20 lap California Hardtop Main Event Saturday night at Placerville Speedway. Reed had a front row start and led the 13 car field to the green flag in a close battle with Jason Clifford early on. Ron Ruiz ran a strong third with Dave Mackay and Ken Retzloff having a good battle for fourth. The first of only two yellow flags waved on lap 11 when Mackey spun in Turn 2. Jason Clifford gave Reed some serious pressure on the restart, but Reed moved ahead on the next lap. Retzloff raced by Ruiz for third with a Turn 2 pass on lap 13 and made an inside move in Turn 4 a lap later to grab second from Jason Clifford. Rhett Lange stalled in Turn 4 for the final caution flag on lap 16. Reed got a bit of pressure from Retzloff on the restart, but he moved ahead over the final laps for a well-earned victory. Retzloff ran a strong second with Ruiz and Jason Clifford close behind in third and fourth, respectively. Roger MacShain finished fifth ahead of Jason Armstrong, Lang, Mackey and final lap finisher Dennis Armstrong. "The Rocket Man" Ken Clifford took a checkered flag in 10th with Joe Shenefield and Larry Wells following. Only 13th place finisher Tom Grady did not take a checkered flag.

Mackey and Retzloff were enjoying a good battle all night long, and Mackey made a late pass to win their eight lap heat race with Retzloff settling for second. Jason Clifford won the other heat ahead of Dennis Armstrong. Next up on the California Hardtop schedule is a pavement date at Stockton 99 Speedway. There is also a Bay Area Hardtop event at Antioch Speedway. You can follow the California Hardtop Association on Facebook.

Hawes, Wagner Win Marysville Raceway Features

Marysville, CA...April 21...Reigning Winged 360 Sprint Car champion Jeremy Hawes earned the 25 lap feature victory Saturday night at Marysville Raceway. Hawes raced into the lead at the start ahead of Kenny Allen and Mike Monahan, and the lead trio ran in that order the rest of the way to grab the podium finish. The race was slowed by just three caution flags. William Fielding finished fourth ahead of Adam Walters, Pat Harvey Jr, Bruce Morrow, Heath Hall, Alec Justeson and Mike Ballentine. Hawes paced the field in qualifying with a 12.479 lap to beat the 12.806 of Monahan. Hawes won his eight lap heat race ahead of Hall, while Monahan outran Justeson to win the second heat.

Reigning NorCal Dwarf Car Association champion Danny Wagner had a flag-to-flag run of his own in winning their 20 lap Main Event. Wagner grabbed the lead from the outset ahead of Ryan Winter. Winter surrendered second to Mike Reeder on a lap two restart, but he regained the position two laps later. Through three more yellow flags, Winter was unable to make the move on the flying Wagner and settled for second. Michael "Spanky" Grenert finished third ahead of Zach Price, Kevin Bender, Kevin Miraglio, Reeder, Justin Winter, Buddy Olschowka and Bryan Bender. Another huge turnout forced a 12 lap B Main Event, won by Grenert ahead of Olschowka, Wade Ehrlich, Justin Winter and Ben Wiesz. Ryan Winter won his heat race ahead of Jack Haverty, Miraglio won the second eight lapper ahead of Reeder. Dan Geil won the third heat ahead of Shawn Whitney, and Kevin Bender outran Wagner to claim the final heat.

Jaylon Deas won an eventful 15 lap Crate Sprint Car Main Event. Wade Lumsden led a lap over Jeff Macedo before surrendering the lead to Macedo as Cameron Haney Sr settled into second. A crash on lap five brought out a red flag and ended the race for Macedo and Haney. Deas assumed the lead on the restart and led the rest of the way ahead of past division champion Mike Sayre, Kelly Hicks, Cameron Haney Jr, Macedo, Lumsden, Cameron Haney Sr and Chad Thompson. Cameron Haney Sr won the eight lap heat race ahead of Macedo.

A short field of four Super Stocks closed the show with a 15 lap Main Event
, and Chris Warner collected the victory. Rod Oliver led two laps before bringing out a yellow flag. Warner led reigning champion James Castleberry on the restart, but Oliver gained second on a lap 11 yellow flag for Castleberry. Warner held off Oliver over the remaining four laps for the victory as Casselberry settled for third ahead of Richard Vanderploeg. Oliver won the eight lap heat race ahead of Warner.

There is no racing next weekend, but there will be plenty of mayhem as the Monster Truck Mayhem Insanity Tour has a two-day event on Friday and Saturday. Auto racing resumes on May 12th with the Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Crate Sprints, IMCA Sport Modifieds and NorCal Dwarf Cars. For further information, go to www.marysvilleraceway.com.

Tiner, McDaniel, Albright Win On Al Hinds Night
At Placerville Speedway

Placerville, CA...April 21...Steven Tiner took advantage of some late race mishaps to win the 25 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Placerville Speedway. This was the 15th Annual Tribute to Al Hinds Night. Tony Gualda set the early pace ahead of Justin Johnson. Justyn Cox took over second on lap seven with Andy Forsberg following into third. Forsberg surrendered third to Jimmy Trulli on a lap 13 restart as Cox raced by Gualda for the lead. As Cox was working his way through traffic, a backmarker spun in his path, resulting in him flipping for a lap 21 red flag. Tiner raced into the lead on the restart and led the remaining four laps for the victory. Trulli finished second ahead of Forsberg, Shane Hopkins, Johnson, Bobby Butler, Mike Benson, Greg DeCaires, CJ Humphries and Cody Fendley. Bobby Butler won his eight lap heat race ahead of Tiner, and Billy Butler won the other heat race ahead of Cox.

Ryan McDaniel went flag-to-flag in winning the 20 lap Limited Late Model Main Event. McDaniel led from the start ahead of reigning champion Matt Micheli. Matt Davis held third in the early goings before surrendering the position to Terry Kuntz. At the checkered flag, McDaniel was the winner ahead of Micheli and Kuntz. However, Kuntz was disqualified in post race tech, elevating Davis to third ahead of, Tyler Lightfoot, Eddie Gardner, Paul Guglielmani, Kiely Ricardo, Chris Annas, Jay Norton and Mike Lightfoot. McDaniel won his eight lap heat race ahead of Davis, while Micheli outran Norton to win the second heat.

Dakota Albright led all but the opening lap to win the 20 lap BCRA Midget Lites feature. Albright took the lead from Scott Kinney on a lap two restart. Hunter Kinney had second on lap three and eventually found himself in a battle with Bradley Dillard for the position. Dillard put the pressure on in the waning laps and made the move into second on lap 20. Hunter Kinney settled for third ahead of Danika Jo Parker, Gus Carcione, Brandon Leedy, Dan Foster, Steve Brown and Scott Kinney. Scott Kinney outran Hunter Kinney to win the first eight lap heat race, and Brown won the other heat in front of Foster.

Jason Palmer collected the victory in the 20 lap Pure Stock Main Event. Rick Grunert paced the first three tours before surrendering the lead to Orville Owens on a lap four restart. Jason Palmer followed into second. On a lap ten restart, Scott Grunert charged into the lead with Rick Grunert following into second, but Palmer took over second on a lap 14 restart. Scott Grunert held the point until a lap 16 yellow flag. On the restart, Palmer raced into the lead and paced the remaining four tours to win ahead of Rick Grunert, 2016 champion Nick Baldwin, Scott Grunert, Russ Murphy, Kevin Jinkerson, Mike Stoeckel, Tommy Sturgon, Lonnie Leonard and Jesse Bryant. Chris Von Roekel won his eight lap heat race ahead of Scott Grunert, and Baldwin was the other heat winner in front of Palmer.

Linder Scores Impressive Victory At Silver Dollar Speedway

Chico, CA...April 20...Garen Linder led an Oregon Invasion to Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night and left with the victory in the 25 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event. The race was a good battle to the end, and 2016 Southern Oregon Speedway champion Jake Wheeler set the early pace ahead of JJ Hickle. Linder moved by Hickle for second on lap 12, but the close three car battle up front saw Hickle take over on lap 13 with Linder in second and Wheeler slipping back to fourth behind reigning champion Andy Forsberg. A pair of yellow flags on lap 15 slowed the pace, but Hickle continued to lead Linder until Linder made a move on lap 17. Not giving up, Hickle returned the favor a lap later. However, Linder was back out front on lap 18. Forsberg finally moved into second on lap 22, but all he could do was chase the flying and Linder to the checkered flag for a second place finish. Hickle settled for third ahead of Sean Becker, Wheeler, Mason Moore, Kalib Henry, Michael Ing, Jake Haulot and Chelsea Blevins.

Another strong turnout of 31 Winged 360 Sprint Cars is further proving the track made a wise decision in switching to this division. Hickle set the fast time of 12.743, just beating the 12.761 of John Carney. They ran four eight lap heat races, and Moore picked up the first win ahead of Hickle. Michael "Buddy" Kofoid won the second heat race ahead of Carney, and Linder outran Sean Conde to claim the victory in the third heat. Kenny Allen outran Andy Forsberg to win the final heat race. The remainder of the Main Event field was filled by the top finishers from the 12 lap B Main, and past Cottage Grove Speedway champion Seth Nunes went flag-to-flag to win ahead of Brant Bjork, Jake Haulot, Cody Fendley and Devan Borden.

2016 IMCA State champion Brian Cooper won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. The race was led early by Matt Micheli ahead of Justin Foux. Cooper made his move past Foux for second on lap five. On lap 10, Cooper led rookie Brent Curran past Micheli for the Top 2 positions. Once in front, Cooper maintained the lead all the way to the checkered flag. Andrew Peckham moved past Curran for second on lap 12 and would finish there, while Curran settled for a respectable third. Micheli finished fourth ahead of Foux, Tyler Rogers, Matt Magenheimer, Jason Ferguson, Jimmy Ford and Jake Van Tol. The 20 car field was split into three eight lap qualifying heat races, and Peckham won his race ahead of Micheli. Ford outran Phil Marino to win the second heat, and Rodgers beat Foux to claim the third heat victory.

Reigning Wingless Spec Sprint champion Tony Richards picked up the win in both the heat race and the 20 lap Main Event. Brent Steck set the early pace ahead of Richards. Ron Laplant took second from Richards on lap six and held the spot until lap 12, when he brought out a yellow flag. Steck continued to lead Brett Youngman and Richards on the restart, but Richards motored into the lead on lap 16. Once in front, Richards led the rest of the way for the victory. Steck settled for second ahead of Laplant, Youngman, Rick Gutzke and Cody Spencer.

Reigning champion Phil Marino won the 20 lap Street Stock Main Event. Cory Hall led the first four laps before being passed by Shawn Smith. Smith led Hall through a pair of yellow flags as Marino slipped by Clinton Earl for third on lap 13. Smith held the point until problems on lap 17. Marino seized the opportunity to take the lead with Hall still holding on to second. Marino led the rest of the way to grab the win. Earl made a late charge to take the checkered flag in second, followed by Leif Berglund. However both were disqualified in post race tech, elevating Smith into second ahead of Ken Micheli, Hall, Gary Newman, Fritz Zanker, Richard Workman, Mark Newman and Brent Lawrence. Hall won the first eight lap heat race ahead of Earl, and Smith claimed the win in the second heat by a comfortable margin ahead of Ken Micheli.

Kyle Allen won a close race in the 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event. The race was destined to go without a yellow flag, and Kyle Cheney led early ahead of Nick Vidovich and reigning Orland champion Jeremy Langenderfer. Vidovich and Langenderfer moved past Cheney for the Top 2 positions on lap five, and Allen quickly settled into third. Allen put the moves on Langenderfer for second on lap 10 and gained the lead from Vidovich a lap later. Allen led the rest of the way for the win, and Langenderfer took over second on lap 13 to finish there. Cheney settled for third ahead of Vidovich, Mel Byers, Shannon Collins, Earl Adams, James West, Colin Ferguson and David Pierce. Langenderfer won his heat race ahead of Kyle Cheney, while Allen won his eight lapper in front of Byers.

Silver Dollar Speedway will be dark next Friday night, but the Bill Brownell Classic is set for May 4th with Winged 410 Sprints, Wingless Spec Sprints, Street Stocks and IMCA Sport Modifieds all on the card. For further information, go to www.silverdollarspeedway.com.

Kendall Oil Winged Sprints Offering Sprint Car Fans Hope For The Future At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...Once again, Sprint Car racing will be a big part of the racing program at Southern Oregon Speedway. In their third season with a championship point race, promoter Mike McCann is optimistic about a strong season of racing with several new drivers coming on board. Also helping the cause, in addition to sponsorship from Hays Oil, is Dave's Carpet And Vinyl Liquidators

Sprint Car racing has been a part of the racing program to one degree or another in every season at Southern Oregon Speedway. Sprint Car racers even had a hand in helping build the race track as a Limited Sprint racer volunteered his labor. Southern Oregon Speedway has had 15 championship seasons for the class and has had one race that went towards the championship of one series or another every year.

The big star in the early days was Dan Menne. Dan has won four championships, and nobody has won more Sprint Car Main Events at the track than he has. Bill Nutter, Chad Bauer, Randy Rogers and Charlie Thompson are among the other stars who have been a part of the racing program through the years. It could be argued that the biggest commitment management has ever shown to this division has come in the past couple of seasons, and this is poised to be the best season yet.

One of the biggest stars of Southern Oregon Sprint Car racing during the past six years or so is Kyler Barraza. Kyler was very consistent last season and used his three feature victories to clinch the championship before the season finale. His success at Southern Oregon Speedway during the 2013 and 2014 seasons helped earn him two Southern Oregon Sprint Car Tour championships. Kyler is recovering from a terrible crash in the Wingless Sprint Car race last August, but he is returning this year.

David Hibbard has racked up over 20 feature victories between Southern Oregon Speedway and Cottage Grove and is a past Cottage Grove Speedway champion. Though it seemed like he was headed for second in the standings last year, David graciously stepped out of the cockpit and allowed his son Bailey to compete against Marissa Henson to see who could earn the runner-up honors. Bailey looked strong all season long with three feature victories, but he lost second by just one point to last year's top rookie, Henson.

Both Hibbard's are a force to be reckoned with on the race track. David lost a heartbreaker of a race last year thanks to traffic and settled for one of his three second-place finishes, but he did have a victory as well. If he sets his sights on the championship, he will be tough to beat. However, David seems to be taking satisfaction from helping grow this division for the future. If there's somebody who could beat them all, it's David's rapidly improving son Bailey.

Like several of the younger drivers on the roster, Marissa Henson got her start on the adjacent Outlaw Kart track, rising through the ranks from the Beginners Box Stock class all the way to 500 Open Karts before setting her sights on the big track. Henson had a Top 5 season in Mini Stocks in 2016 before living her dream of finally getting to drive a Sprint Car last season. She is a quick study, a tough competitor and she shouldn't be counted out in this season's championship battle.

Likewise, Enrique Jaime has been a force on the Kart circuit, both dirt and pavement. Enrique made his move into the Sprint Cars last year and ended up fifth in the standings. He's part of the wave of young talent coming into Sprint Car racing, which gives Oregonians hope for the future of this division in the state.

One of the biggest stars of Kart racing over the past several seasons is Tanner Holmes. Holmes was crowned 500 Open Kart champion last season, and he also looked very impressive in his limited starts in a Sprint Car. Tanner will be getting more seat time this year, though he plans to compete in some of the bigger Kart races throughout the country on various occasions.

You can't talk about top notch talent without mentioning the name Mike Wheeler. Wheeler has racked up a resume of Kart championships that is second to nobody on the West Coast. This year, Mike is looking forward to making his return to Sprint Car racing. His nephew, Jake Wheeler, is rumored to be coming out to race at least some. The Wheeler family has been a part of Southern Oregon racing for many years, and Jake was the 2016 Winged Sprint Car champion at Southern Oregon Speedway.

1998 Cottage Grove Speedway champion Hedge Carter was competing at Southern Oregon Speedway on several occasions last year and was one of the Top 10 competitors. Not only is Hedge planning to continue racing, but son Colby Carter is now a part of the roster. Colby recently picked up a Top 10 finish at Cottage Grove.

Another of the rising stars of Sprint Car racing is Camden Robustelli. Camden has won multiple Main Events on the circuit and nearly scored a victory at Southern Oregon Speedway last year. He splits his time between Sprint Cars and Dwarf Cars, but we should still see him in a Sprint Car on multiple occasions.

The roster will see a few names from the past back in action again, starting with 2009 champion Charlie Thompson. Thompson made one appearance in 2016, resulting in a blown motor. Another driver who made one appearance in 2016 is Aaron Miller. Miller used that occasion to win his first Main Event. After having a Top 10 season in Antioch, California last year, Aaron is planning to race at Southern Oregon Speedway this year.

Another driver who was part of the 2016 roster, Todd Whipple, is also planning to return this year. Whipple is a past Top 5 IMCA Modified competitor in Yreka and a feature winner down there. Several cars are in various stages of repair, and a couple of big Sprint Car names from the past are rumored to be coming. We've also heard that second generation competitor Blaine Corey, who has raced at the Outlaw Kart Track in the past, will be a part of this season's show.

The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars, presented by Hayes Oil and further sponsored by Dave's Carpet and Vinyl, has been booked for 11 events. It all starts with their first event on May 5th. One of the highlights will be the August 11th Ironhead Sprint Car Nationals, offering a $2,000 first prize. There's also the Second Annual Herz Precision Parts Cascade Wingless Sprint Car Challenge, offering $3,500 for the winner on August 25th.

Promoter Mike McCann has made a commitment to build up the Sprint Car program at Southern Oregon Speedway and is giving it more attention than perhaps it ever had at the track. Fans looking for their Sprint Car fix will find a good show every time the Kendell Oil Winged Sprint Cars are on the card. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars Set To Return
To Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...The Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Association returns to Southern Oregon Speedway 15 times this season, starting with the season opener on April 28th. The Dwarf Car division has had races every year in which the speedway has been in operation. During the first two seasons, it was the PHRA group from Northern Oregon making the visits. In 1998, SODCA was formed.

The big star in those early years was Jon DeBenedetti. DeBenedetti at times was quite dominant in winning three straight championships. One of his main competitors in the championship battle, Gary Fitzsimmons, won back-to-back championships after DeBenedetti's great run. There have been many stars of the Dwarf Car division, including two-time champions Kelly Gutches, RJ McGahuey and Josh King.

Last season, Brock Peters joined the Two-time Champions Club as he won a good battle with longtime Dwarf Car competitor Chad Cardoza and Ryan Smith for his second consecutive championship. Brock is poised to go for three in a row, but the competition will be tough. One of the people he needs to keep an eye on is his own son, Cody Peters, who finished fourth in the standings last season.

The SODCA Dwarf Car group plays host to the Western States Dwarf Car Nationals event on the first weekend of August. For years, some of the best drivers from throughout California, Nevada, Oregon and other states come to White City for the big event. However, it's usually one of those outsiders who leaves with the big victory. Last season, Cody Peters scored what some might call a major upset with his crowd-pleasing last-lap pass on NorCal Dwarf Car champion Danny Wagner for the victory.

At times, Brock Peters has been rather dominant in his M&M Chassis, and the scarier news is his son Cody is getting better with every start. However, Chad Cardoza and Ryan Smith are no slouches. Both drivers are multi time runner-ups in the championship chase, and neither driver should be counted out in this season's battle. These two drivers have been competing in Dwarf Cars for a long time, and either driver could have a huge season this year.

Just seeing long time competitor Fred Hay back behind the wheel of his car again last year was a good thing. In March of 2016, Fred was involved in a terrible crash at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. The wreck left him sidelined for the season, but he was determined not to let that be the end of his career. Fred has been competing in the Southern Oregon area in various divisions for six decades, and he is still capable of scoring wins in this competitive group.

Though he hasn't been around as long as some of the other competitors, Randy Slater has continued to improve. Randy is knocking on the door to his first career victory after having his career-best season last year in the Top 5. Slater is also the club president and works very hard to put together a good series for the group. Nowhere is this more evident than when Randy and his family work on putting all the touches that make the Western States Dwarf Car Nationals event in August such a success.

Just when you thought Kalvin Morton might move on to another division, the young gun picked up another Dwarf Car and ran the last few races with the group last season. He was a serious contender for the victory and he'll be somebody to watch in the quest for wins this year. Morton is also a multi time Top 5 ranked point competitor.

You also can't forget Josh King. King was the champion for the two seasons prior to Brock Peters taking over. During the past two seasons, Josh has cut back on his appearances, which has taken him out of championship contention. However, he has won several Main Events and is a threat to win anytime he is there.

Camden Robustelli Is also a major factor anytime he's on the race track. Last season, Robustelli won Main Events at four different venues, including the season opener at Southern Oregon Speedway. Camden likes to split his time between running a Dwarf Car and a Sprint Car, but he's another driver you can't ignore when he's racing with the Southern Oregon Dwarf Car group.

The season last year ended with a pair of surprise winners in Mason Lewman and Rob Gergel. It speaks to the competitive nature of the Dwarf Car division. You never know who could win on any given week, and the races are exciting from start to finish. At Southern Oregon Speedway, there were five different winners in the nine club point events last year.

The actual roster of available cars for the group stretches into the 30s, and some of the drivers to watch for include Joe Sanders, Jerry Hauck, Casey Sheeler, Steve Walker, Paul Haslow, Joe Winter, Mark Nielsen, and the father and son team of Bud and Jesse Lorenz. After selling his car to Mike Johnson, Anthony Pope has a new car. Johnson will be putting his son Michael, who is coming off of a runner-up season in Mini Stocks, behind the wheel. Rumor has it that Andrew Hall might also join the ranks, and we're still waiting for the debut of Kart star Ashley Strain.

The bottom line is the Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Association will bring the excitement In each of their visits. They are on the card for many of the big events, including the Western States Dwarf Car Association Nationals Event on August 3-4. You won't want to miss the big show. They are part of the track's season opener on April 28th. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

OTRO Hardtops Return
To Southern Oregon Speedway In 2018

White City, Oregon...The Old Time Racers Of Oregon will return to Southern Oregon Speedway. This will be the third consecutive season that the OTRO Hardtop division will run most of their events at the White City racing facility. This is a relationship that began when promoter Mike McCann and OTRO President Vic Bridges talked prior to the 2016 season.

Bridges had been the president of the group and helped plot a course for the OTRO during a difficult time for the Hardtop division. Sadly, Vic passed away during the offseason. Stepping forward to take over the duties is Mark Minter. The Minter family has been a part of the OTRO since its inception in the 1980s, and most of the Minter men have had their turn behind the wheel of the pink #33 Hardtop.

The OTRO is a group of competitors that races for fun, not money and points. Through the years, they have enjoyed putting their race cars on both pavement and dirt tracks and have always given the fans a show. The body styles, the old Ford and Chevy Coupes and Sedans, harken back to the good old days of racing in the 1950s and 1960s.

Minter led off last season with back-to-back Main Event victories before Jamie Britton took over with a pair of victories. Britton had been running on the pavement in Roseburg, but he liked the idea of getting out there on the dirt. Minter and Britton seem to be the powerhouses of the group as the Vic and Louise Bridges entry, which had won several races the previous year, was driven by Bruce Wilkerson to a pair of second-place finishes. No word on who will be driving that car this season.

The Trotter family continues to be big supporters of the Hardtop movement. Father Bill Trotter has been at just about every race the group has had at Southern Oregon Speedway for the past two seasons. He also fields a pickup truck entry. Meanwhile, son Dusty Trotter has been a good supporter of the group. Last season, Dusty remarked that he was working on a second car that hopefully we will see this year.

Also in the group are Dean Cast, Brian Crouch and Jimmy Del Castille. All three drivers have won Trophy Dashes, but they're still searching for their first Main Event wins. Other cars are in various states of repair getting ready for an exciting season of Hardtop racing.

The OTRO has six events at Southern Oregon Speedway this year, and they run their first race as part of the Open Wheel Showcase on Memorial Day Weekend, May 26th. These cars are put together with pride and are some of the nicest race cars you'll find at the track. For further information on the happenings at the speedway, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Siskiyou Motor Speedway Has Canned Food Night

Yreka, CA...After an exciting season opener, Siskiyou Motor Speedway comes back this Saturday night with Canned Food Night at the races. Fans who bring two canned food items will receive $2 off their admission. Scheduled to compete this week will be the IMCA Sport Modifieds, McDonald's Mini Stocks and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars. Fans wanting to see more racing will note that on Friday night, the next generation of speedway superstars will be racing on the smaller track next to the big track.

The IMCA Sport Modified drivers had the fans talking after the season opener as Jorddon Braaten won a thrilling battle with Justin McCreadie and Rich McCoy. With the Medford track still not open, it's possible that these three hard chargers will be back again this week. McCreadie, who was a rookie last season, won two Main Events in Yreka, and he'd love to add to his trophy collection this week.

Absent from the opener were reigning champion DJ Bottoms and Colton Cheffey. Both should be back in the action soon. 2016 champion Jimmy Lipke didn't fare too well in the opener,  and he'll be out to turn it around this week. 2015 Association champion Doug Franklin and Ryder Boswell did have Top 5 runs last week, and both will be looking to get the win this week. Other drivers to watch for include Braxton Possinger, Trevor Tiffee and Randy Wright.

David Steele enjoys his visits to Yreka. The 2015 McDonald's Mini Stock champion won the season finale last year and opened the season with a win ahead of 2015 Medford champion David Marble. Though the two drivers aren't expected to be regulars this season, it's a good possibility they both will race this week. Not surprisingly, past champions Terry Kendrick and Mike Whitaker are back running for points this season, as is two-time reigning champion Marilyn Yawnick. Kendrick finished a solid third in the opener, while Whitaker ended up fifth. After winning her heat race, Yawnick was a disappointed eighth in the feature.

This season, Mike Frost and Jason Frost both have their own cars. Mike ended up with his best finish yet in fourth in the opener. Dennis Jorgensen, Garrett Frederickson and newcomer Derek Alford are other drivers to watch for this week.

Reigning champion Brock Peters was hoping to finally get a Yreka win last week. His night started out promising. Peters won both his heat race in the A Dash before settling for a disappointed tenth in the Main Event. The Main Event was won by Camden Robustelli, who also had a feature win with the group last season in Yreka. Robustelli held off two-time champion Josh King for the win.

The 19 car field last week was boosted by some visitors from the PHRA, including third place finisher Jake Van Ortwick. Kalvin Morton was back in action and finishing fifth in the Main Event. Morton won multiple features in Yreka back in 2016, but a Medford flip derailed what could have been a championship season for him. He's somebody to watch in this year's championship chase with the group. Other drivers to look for this week include 2017 point runnerup Chad Cardozo, Ryan Smith, Joe Sanders, Randy Slater, Fred Hay and Mason Lewman.

This weekend offers plenty of racing excitement for the hardcore fans. After Friday night's Outlaw Kart program, people can head to the big track on Saturday night for the bigger show. For further information, go to www.siskiyoumotorspeedway.com.

Carload Night At Coos Bay Speedway

Coos Bay, Oregon...After beating the weather and holding a race last week, the NASCAR Whelen All American Series returns to Coos Bay Speedway this Saturday night. It's South Coast Shopper $23 Carload Night At The Races. In addition to that, some lucky kids will receive free rides with the racers. Divisions on the card include the Super Late Models, Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws, Hornets and Jr Stingers.

Last week, Mike George resumed command of the Super Late Model division. Having won the championship last year, George has his sights set on a repeat. This year, he is joined by Sportsman Late Model champion Brody Montgomery. Montgomery started running with the group a bit last year, but he's going full time this year. Brody won his heat race before finishing second in the Main Event. Absent last week was 2015 champion Toby McIntyre, Thor Kristensen and Jared Bemetz, but it's a good possibility that all will be there this week. Third ranked 2017 competitor Chris Ray was there, and other drivers to watch for include Trina Post, Kristy Grout and Brian Tenney.

After settling for second to Montgomery last season, two time Sportsman Late Model champion Wayne Butler has every intention of recapturing his championship. He took a positive step by winning the heat race and Main Event last week ahead of the man who is likely to be his top rival, Dyllan Siewell. Other drivers anticipated this week include the steady Charlie Withers, Tom Williams, Jeff Kossman and Troy Chamberlain.

Despite finishing second in Street Stock points last year, Ken Fox was without a win. Not wanting to go the whole year without a win this year, Fox grabbed the checkered flag in the opener. In doing so, he may have established himself as the driver to beat in this year's championship chase. He picked up the win ahead of David Smith last week while a pair of Roseburg visitors, RC Levin and Justin Tracy, finished third and fourth, respectively. Reigning champion Justin Krossman was absent last week, and other drivers anticipated this week include 2016 champion Daniel Land, Steve Dubisar and Josh Bearden.

A very short field Mini Outlaws last week saw just two-time reigning champion Sam Talon and John Henry in the field, finishing first and second in both races. It's possible that the very serious threat of rain kept some competitors out the action, but numbers should pick up. Other drivers to watch for include Dan Daniels, Jason Kallum, Alyssa Johnson and the fast VW Beetle of Rob Lauver.

Jr Stingers will offer competitors in the 11 to 14 year old bracket a chance to do some racing. Several races have been sprinkled throughout the schedule for this group. They will be competing in Hornets.

The Hornet division opened last week with "Lady Venom" April Warmack kicking things off with a Main Event victory ahead of David Pellam and Cameron Sieger. Another driver who could be player in this year's championship battle, Hannah Robison, won her heat race before failing to finish the Main Event. She had multiple second place finishes last season, but she's looking for her first career win. Other drivers to watch for this week include Steven Parker, Tyler Rikki and Kylea Krossman.

It should be a night with plenty of excitement at Coos Bay Speedway. With free rides for the kids and a discounted rate of $23 for a car load of fans, it all adds up to a great night of family fun. For further information, go to www.coosbayspeedway.us.

California Hardtop Association Returns
To Placerville Speedway

Placerville, CA...After three straight rainouts, sunny skies are in the forecast and racing is on tap for the California Hardtop Association at Placerville Speedway. Leading the charge will be the father and son duo of Dennis Armstrong and Jason Armstrong. Both raced Stock Cars at the track prior to getting into Hardtops, and both are Main Event winners. Son Jason won Hardtop races at multiple venues last year and may be the driver to beat this week. Jason is also somebody who helps other drivers get their cars ready for the races.

After the rain canceled a two race weekend for the group at Chico and Marysville, five of the competitors headed to the rescheduled Sunday playday at Orland Raceway. They have two races on their schedule this year, so it was a good opportunity to get some seat time at the track and put their cars through their shakedown runs. "The Rocket Man" Ken Clifford was there along with Joe "Hood Pins" Hopp, Joe Shenefield, Roger MacShain and Larry Wells.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more enthusiastic competitor than Ken Clifford. During the week, he's posting videos from his in car camera and sharing them with his fellow competitors. The Clifford Team is two cars strong as son Jason is driving one of the original or OTRO Hardtops. Both Clifford's have won multiple Main Events with the California Hardtops.

Hopp is a winner on the pavement of Roseville, but he'd love to get a win on the dirt. Two drivers who you have to keep an eye on in the race for victory are Ron Ruiz and Dave Reed. These two are fast and are making their presence known at the front of the pack. Reed is wheeling the former John Philbert car. The fact is, the competition is so close with this group that you never know who might win next.

The group's roster stretches well into the twenties, and a car count of 8 to 12 cars is a good possibility for Saturday. Other competitors who could show up include past Placerville winner Dave Mackey, Ken Retzloff, Doug Brauderick, Dan Whitney and Russ Kraft. You can find the California Hardtop Association on Facebook.
