Jones Wins Dwarf Car Nationals
At Southern Oregon Speedway
White City, Oregon...Shawn Jones made it two for two on the weekend as he won the 30 lap WCDCA Pro Dwarf Car Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Jones also won on Friday night, and his win in this race came by a straightaway ahead of Josh King and Gene "Punky" Pires.
Tim Fitzpatrick took the lead on lap ten and held off a late challenge from Kevin Miraglio to win the 20 lap Veteran Dwarf Car Main Event.
Ben Wiesz stayed smooth under the serious pressure of second place finisher Cody Peters to win the 20 lap Sportsman Dwarf Car Main Event.
Mark Minter won the 15 lap OTRO Hardtop Main Event by a half-lap ahead of Jimmy Del Castille. Minter was subbing in the Bill Trotter car.
Shawn Jones won impressively in the 30 lap Pro Dwarf Car Main Event. Dash winner David Teves led three laps before John Isabella raced by on the backstretch to take the lead. After a lap eight yellow flag for a Turn 4 crash. Jones charged into the lead on the restart and led through one more yellow flag. Jones was never seriously threatened as he won by a straightaway. Josh King came from back in the seventh row to claim second by lap 22. However, that was as far as King got as Jones cruised to victory. Gene Pires, Danny Wagner and Isabella rounded out the top 5.
Tim Fitzpatrick won the 20 lap Veteran Dwarf Car Main Event. Dan Geil led from the second lap before surrendering the lead to Fitzpatrick. The race was red flagged when Don Gifford and Glenn Sciarani got together on the back stretch with Sciarani doing a series of barrel rolls. He was not injured in the crash. Fitzpatrick took the lead on the lap ten restart, and Kevin Miraglio found his way into second two laps later. Miraglio got a run on Fitzpatrick on lap 18, but he chose the outside to carry his momentum and made contact with the back wall. Fitzpatrick collected the hard fought victory ahead of Miraglio, Scott Dahlgren, Mark Biscardi and Kevin Bender.
Ben Wiesz won the 20 lap Sportsman Dwarf Car Main Event. Cody Peters led a lap before heading pitside with a flat tire. Wiesz gained the lead and set the pace with Peters settling into second by lap seven. Peters searched high and low and nearly spun late trying to make a pass in Turn 4. Wiesz drove a flawless race to earn the victory as Peters settled for second. Kyle Jones won a race long battle with Ken Radabaugh to finish third as Tim Reeder rounded out the Top 5.
Mark Minter won the 15 lap OTRO Hardtop Main Event. Minter got behind the wheel of the Bill Trotter owned #46 car and led all but the opening lap after winning the four lap Trophy Dash earlier in the evening. Jimmy Del Castille led the opening lap and finished a season best second. Newcomer Dean Cass, Chris Mehrer and Brian Crouch rounded out the Top 5 at the checkered flag.
