Richey Opens Skinner Memorial Weekend
With Preliminary Victory
White City, Oregon...Jeremy Richey won the 25 lap Preliminary Main Event for the IMCA Modifieds Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Richey earned the pole for the race with his Trophy Dash win, and his preliminary win locked him into the big $5000 to win race on Sunday along with the rest of the Top 10 finishers. B Main winner Bobby Hogge IV made a late charge to finish second ahead of Duane Cleveland.
Bob Nelsen took the lead from Trophy Dash winner Dwayne Melvin on a lap 11 restart and went on to win the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. Shane DeVolder made a late charge to finish second ahead of Rich McCoy.
Chad Cardoza took the lead from Cody Peters on the second lap and then held off the younger Peters for his first 20 lap SODCA Dwarf Car Main Event win of the season. Point leader Brock Peters finished third.
Jeremy Richey won the 25 lap IMCA Modified Preliminary Main Event with a flag to flag romp to the checkered flag. The group ran two sets of four heat races that had no repeat winners. An eight lap Trophy Dash was held for the top nine heat race point earners, and Richey used his win to earn the pole for the night's $600 to win Main Event. Only one yellow flag slowed the pace, and Richey led all the way to the victory. Bobby Hogge IV had to run the 20 lap B Main, and he won that race. Hogge started ninth in the Main Event and finally managed to take second from Duane Cleveland on lap 15. Richey held a 3.5 second lead at that point, and Hogge cut it down to half a second by the time the checkered flag waved. Cleveland finished third ahead of Mark Wauge and Nick Trenchard.
Bob Nelsen won his second 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event of the season. Two time champion Dwayne Melvin won both of his heat races and had the pole for the Main Event thanks to his Trophy Dash win. Melvin seemed to be on his way to victory as he led he first ten laps of the Main Event. A lap 10 yellow flag proved to be his undoing. Nelsen grabbed the lead on the restart and led the rest of the way for the impressive victory. 14 year Shane DeVolder made a late charge to finish second ahead of previous race winner Rich McCoy, Mike Johnson and Keith Foux.
Chad Cardoza finally broke through for his first 20 lap SODCA Dwarf Car feature win of the season. Cardoza grabbed the lead from Cody Peters on lap 2 and led the rest of the way for the satisfying victory. C. Peters battled with A Dash winner Camden Robustelli during the first 10 laps before grabbing the position for good. As Cardoza won, C. Peters was a strong second ahead of his father and point leader, Brock Peters, Robustelli and Josh King.
The IMCA Modifieds run the 100 lap, $5000 to win Lon Skinner Memorial Race on Sunday with IMCA Sport Modifieds and Dwarf Cars again running full programs.
