Yawnick, Hamilton Share Siskiyou Motor Speedway Winner's Circle

Yawnick, Hamilton Share Siskiyou Motor Speedway
Winner's Circle

McDonald's Mini Stocks and O'Reilly Auto Parts IMCA Sport Modifieds shared headline billing Saturday night at Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka.  In the Mini Stocks, it was Marilyn Yawnick collecting another win in their 20 lap Main Event. Garrett Hamilton grabbed the victory in the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified feature.

Yawnick ended a bit of a victory drought when she won the Mini Stock feature two weeks ago.  She liked it so much that she drove to her second straight win Saturday night.  As it was the last time, she had to contend with defending champion David Steele, who ran right behind her to the checkered flag.  In the end,  Yawnick prevailed again.  Steele settled for second as Terry Kendrick had a strong showing in third.  Dennis Jorgensen and Ethan Killingsworth rounded out the Top 5 as the final lead lap finishers.  Guy Morris was sixth as 2014 champion Mike Whitacker, Mike Coleson and Tyler Frost filled out the remainder of the field.  Kendrick's night included a heat race win over Jorgensen, while Steele won his heat ahead of Yawnick.  Jorgensen grabbed the Trophy Dash victory ahead of Yawnick.

Coming off of his 2015 championship in the SCMA sanctioned IMCA Sport Modified standings, Doug Franklin was going for a clean sweep.  Franklin won his heat race ahead of Chris Joregensen and bested Kyle Pitkin in the Trophy Dash.  In the Main Event, however, it was Franklin's teammate Garrett Hamilton putting on a show and bringing home the victory.  Doug Henshaw lost a second place finish in post race tech as Franklin was elevated to second ahead of a season best third place finish for Chad Wormington.  Chris Joregesnen was fourth ahead of Gary Foster and Pitkin.  Randy Wright had mechanical issues in his heat race and scratched from the feature.

Duane Osburn was there with his IMCA Modified, but nobody showed up to race with him.  Jessica Steele won the Mini Stock Ladies Race ahead of Misty Theil.  The Sport Modified Ladies Race was won by Stephanie Rokes ahead of Tara Pitkin.

The track is having a practice day this Thursday, and the next scheduled race on May 14th will feature McDonald's Mini Stocks, O'Reilly Auto Parts IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Modifieds, Mud Bogs, Pitman Races, a Ball Toss by IMCA Sport Modified drivers and a Kids’ Race.  The Outlaw Kart track will be running on the smaller track earlier that day.  For more information, check the official website at www.siskiyoumotorspeedway.com.
