Pro Stock, IMCA Modified, Dwarf Car Preview For July 4th Race At Southern Oregon Speedway

Valley Boys Auto Sales Outlaw Pro Stocks Return To
Southern Oregon Speedway For July 4th Event

Steve Borror #B40 is blistering the speedways with four wins in five starts.
The Valley Boys Auto Sales Outlaw Pro Stocks make their third appearance of the year at Southern Oregon Speedway on Monday. It is all part of the three division, Fireworks Extravaganza event. The Outlaw Pro Stocks are the best source of fendered Stock Car racing for fans in Southern Oregon these days. They usually put on a good show, and 16 Pro Stocks were in action at their last visit.

The star of the group these days is Steve Borror, winner of four of the last five Main Events on the tour. However, he met his match at the last Medford race in the form of past NASCAR West race winner Rocky Nash. Nash was making his first start of the season, and he really made it count as he led all the way for the victory. Borror had to start at the back of the pack and had worked his way to second before spinning on the last lap. He recovered in fifth, which is his worst finish of the year.

Scott Flowers #21 came back from a spin to finish third in his last visit.
When the Pro Stocks raced at Yreka last week, Borror was back to his usual self as he took the checkered flag just ahead of Nash, who was not far behind him. Nash may be the driver to beat Borror this week, but there are certainly others who may be up to the task. At the most recent Medford race, it was John David Duffie driving the Arlen Heath owned entry to a second place finish. .Duffie has had multiple Top 5 seasons, and he was the 2008 point runnerup. It just may be the fast #42 car carrying Duffie to the Main Event win this week.

John David Duffie #42 picked up a second place finish in his last visit.

Another driver not to be ignored in the field is Scott Flowers. A past champion at the old Worden Speedway, Flowers is working on his third consecutive runner up point season. He finished fourth at Yreka last week and recovered from a spin at the most recent Medford race to finish third at the checkered flag. Flowers is due for a victory, but it could be his son James Flowers who picks up the win. James had an unfortunate non finish at the most recent Medford race, but he does have a top five finish here this season and was fifth at Yreka last week.

There is also 2014 Southern Oregon Speedway Street Stock champion Miles Deubert to consider. Miles made his first start at Medford in the last race, and he did a little bit better at Yreka as he finished in the third position just ahead of S. Flowers. As Deubert gets his #3d car dialed in, he could be a driver to watch in the quest for victory.

Two time champion Ken Irving #1 started the season with a second place finish.

When you talk about the quest for victory, you simply cannot ignore the red #1 car of Ken Irving. Irving is a two time champion in the series, and he opened the season at Medford with a solid second place finish. The fact is, this veteran is due for a feature win, and it could be the 4th of July that is his night to shine.

The one thing about the Outlaw Pro Stock division is it gives you the look of a Late Model, but it has a cost more in line with Street Stock racing. The budget makes it more affordable for the racers to come out and compete. In fact, it is this group that has inspired Hayfork Speedway in Trinity County, California to start their own division. Many fans love their Stock Cars, and the Outlaw Pro Stock Tour is doing their best to provide them with plenty of it.

Rick Lukens #12 has one of the nicest looking cars in the field and two heat wins so far.

A field of at least a dozen racers are expected to roll into town on Monday, many of them hailing from Klamath Falls. In recent weeks, the #12 car of Rick Lukens has looked good, and he has picked up a couple of heat race wins and finished in the Top 5 in the Main Event this year. Other drivers to keep an eye out for this week include Matt Harlow, Scott Bennett, Tyler Lockwood, Tom Hackworth, Arlen Garrison, Johnny Cobb and rookie Julia Flowers.

The Outlaw Pro Stock drivers are looking forward to hitting the track, and they have their sights set on another big race, the $2500 to win Billy Geyer Memorial coming up on July 23rd in Yreka as Southern Oregon Speedway is dark for the fair. Fireworks will be a big attraction this Monday at Southern Oregon Speedway, but the Outlaw Pro Stocks are sure to put on a good show along with the IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Association.

IMCA Sport Modifieds Bring The Excitement To
4th of July Show At Southern Oregon Speedway
Jorddon Braaten #84 leads the way in track and State points.

It is year #5 for the IMCA Sport Modified division at Southern Oregon Speedway, and this is their best year yet. Car count is up slightly, and there have been four different winners in the first five races this season. On Monday, July 4th, the IMCA Sport Modifieds will be part of a three division show that will also feature a professionally run fireworks display. It will be a great night for the family to come out and see a great show.

Two time reigning IMCA Sport Modified champion Jorddon Braaten remains the man to beat.  Though he has been running up front, the wins haven't come as quickly at Southern Oregon Speedway as they have in the past. Last season, Jorddon won the lion's share of the Main Events with eight victories. So far, he has two wins, along with a second and third place finish. However, he continues to lead the points at Southern Oregon Speedway and in the State of Oregon.

Bob Nelsen #8n impressed with his feature win last week.

Jorddon is enjoying the competition in the group. It started at the season opener, where he had to work hard to hold off two time track champion Dwayne Melvin and for that win. His next win came ahead of reigning IMCA State champion Mike Medel, who is still working for his first win of the season at his home track. Last week, Jorddon figured to be the winner once again, but he met his match in the form of Bob Nelsen. Nelsen had taken the lead from Glen Severson, and he held it until Jorddon passed him on lap 16. Nelsen held his groove on the outside and regained the lead a lap later on his way to victory.

Rookie David Marble #4m has his sights set on a Main Event victory.

The field includes Braaten, Medel, Nelson and Melvin, and these aren't the only drivers to keep an eye on. 2015 Mini Stock champion David Marble has been doing well in his rookie season. Last week, he had his best finish yet in third place, and there's every indication that he could be a feature winner at some point this year.

Another rookie in the field among the top five is A.J. Parker. Parker brings a little bit of Kart experience into this, but this is his first foray onto the big track. He's been enjoying himself as he learns the process of running one of these cars. Also somewhat new to the scene is Parker's teammate Tony Bartell.

Reigning IMCA State champion Mike Medel #30m is currently second in points.

There could be some visitors coming in from California, and at the top of the list will be Yreka title contender Jimmy Lipke and two time Marysville Mini Stock champion Jimmy Ford. Ford is a winner of the Sport Mod race during the Lon Skinner Memorial event back in 2013. Visitors have left with wins on two occasions as Chico, California's Todd Cooper and California State Champion Fred Ryland each have a win.  There is the possibility of a few other drivers coming in from down south, and they will meet some local drivers ready to battle for victory on the big stage.

Willie McFall surprised Braaten last week when he held him off for a Trophy Dash victory. It was his first dash win in this division. Other drivers to keep an eye on include Glen Severson, who is coming off of a Top 5 finish last week. Randy Fernandez has had a rough start, but hopefully he will be back and faster than ever this week. Rich McCoy was fast the last time he was out there, but his motor let go on him during the Main Event. He is already a Top 5 finisher in his first start in the class.

Tony Bartell #27b is one of the new drivers in the field this season.

The IMCA Sport Modified is the affordable alternative for people wanting to go Modified racing who do not have the budget for a full Modified. They will find the competition close on the race track and very exciting. The fans will enjoy the show that these drivers put on. Sport Modifieds are bringing it to the track this Monday along with Valley Boys Auto Sales Outlaw Pro Stocks and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars. If that's not enough, there's a Fireworks Display. Monday night is sure to be a great show.

Dwarf Cars Are Coming To Town For 4th Of July Excitement

Kalvin Morton #18 is off to a good start as the SODCA point leader.
On Monday, July 4th, we have fireworks, we have IMCA Sport Modifieds and we have Valley Boys Auto Sales Outlaw Pro Stocks at Southern Oregon Speedway. But that's not all. Also coming to town will be the fast and furious Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Association. These are some of the fastest race cars seen at the speedway.

To win in one of these cars, you have to bring your A Game. The competition has been fierce all season long, and there are several drivers looking for a win on the big Fourth of July stage. Leading the pack to Southern Oregon Speedway will be point leader Kalvin Morton. Morton has all Top 5 finishes at Southern Oregon Speedway, including one second, but his two victories have came at neighboring Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka. Because he has been so consistent, he has the point lead. He has also earned strong Top 3 finishes at Cottage Grove and Coos Bay this year.

Two time reigning champion Josh King #109 has three feature wins so far this year.
You have to be fast to be at the front of the pack when you have a driver like Josh King in the field. King has picked up two wins at Southern Oregon Speedway and is the reigning two time SODCA champion. He also picked up a big win in one of the shootout races at Cottage Grove earlier this year. Because he has missed a couple of races, he's not as high up in the standings as usual, but he is always a threat to win on any given week.

Despite a rough start, Brock Peters #2 is now second in the standings
Another driver coming on very strong lately is Brock Peters. Peters was one of the Top 5 point runners last year and a past "Rookie Of The Year" in the group. Brock had a terrible start to his season, and it didn't look like things would change. When he finally got things sorted out at Southern Oregon Speedway about a month ago, a fuse blew in his car and his run up front ended. Undaunted, Brock put it back together and came back out at the most recent race at Southern Oregon Speedway with a big victory. He followed that up with a win at Coos Bay last Saturday and could be the driver to beat this week. Despite his bad luck, Brock is still battling Morton for the championship.

Ryan Smith #26 is in the hunt for a win and finished second last time out.

Another driver you need to keep an eye on is the #26 car of Ryan Smith. The 2014 point runner up has been running strong all season long and was second at the most recent Southern Oregon Speedway event. He also grabbed the podium finish at Coos Bay last weekend. Smith has yet to win this season, but his win could happen at any time.

One driver who does have a win this year is 2015 point runnerup Camden Robustelli. Camden has been balancing his time between his Sprint Car and the Dwarf Car. He took the time to go to Coos Bay Speedway and drove to a Main Event win last Friday night. He followed that up with a podium finish the next night. Robusstelli would love to get a win at his home track, and it could happen on Monday.

Camden Robustelli #25 is coming off of a great weekend at Coos Bay where he picked up a win.
Another driver to keep an eye on is Chad Cardoza in the fast #71 Dwarf Car. Chad had a strong season opener at Southern Oregon Speedway, winning several preliminary events, including the $1,000 Freddy Hay Dash. When he's there, Chad is always mixing it up near the front of the pack.
The reality is, the competition level is high in the Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Association. Sometimes people overlook these Dwarf Cars as they may be going to see Stock Cars or Sprint Cars, but most of the time they leave having been very entertained by what the Dwarf Car drivers do out on the racetrack. They run fast and they mix it up on the track each and every lap.

There are many talented racers in the field including Top 5 ranked Randy Slater, Rob Gergel, young Cody Peters, Jerry Hauck, Joe Sanders and Mark Nielsen. A field of a dozen to 16 of these race cars are expected to come to town on Monday following the race at Siskiyou Motor Speedway on Sunday. Who will be the winner this week?

So if these hard charging Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars aren't enough, the Pro Stocks and IMCA Sport Modifieds will make this an exciting race to see. Plus, there's a professionally run fireworks display to round out an entertaining evening. It's all happening on Monday at Southern Oregon Speedway.
