Southern Oregon Speedway Releases 2019 Schedule
White City, Oregon...The 24th season of operation is just around the corner for Southern Oregon Speedway. Promoter Mike McCann of KJE Enterprises just released the 2019 schedule, and his fourth season at the helm of the speedway offers all of the signature races the fans have come to expect and a few surprises.
Once again, the speedway will run championship point seasons for the Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Late Model Lites, Mini Stocks and Hornets. The speedway will also host several races for the Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars and OTRO Hardtops along with a few other special attractions.
Since the speedway opened in 1996, a track champion has been crowned every year in the IMCA Modified and Mini Stock divisions. Last season, David Steele turned in a stellar performance with nine wins and two seconds in 11 starts to claim his first Mini Stock title at his home track. Albert Gill claimed his third IMCA Modified championship in the last five years. Once again, the IMCA Modifieds have three signature events with extra purse money on the line.
Two divisions that continue to grow stronger are the Winged Sprint Cars and IMCA Sport Modifieds. The Sport Modifieds had bigger car counts than any of the other local championship divisions and had a great battle last season, won by David Marble. There will be two special extra money races for the division. Likewise, the Winged Sprint Cars will have a big extra money event with wing and without once again. It was David Hibbard claiming his first local track championship on the strength of five wins and two seconds during the first seven races last season.
The Late Model Lites and Hornets offer two other styles of four cylinder racing. The Late Model Lites are among the fastest cars at the speedway, and Charlie Eaton won his first championship last season with three feature wins. The Hornets continue bringing talented new competitors to the speedway, and Bree Tritchler was both champion and the top rookie last season with one win and five seconds.
The Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars will run the bulk of their races here this season. Car count continued to rise last season, offering the fans exciting and competitive races every time they were in town. Josh King won his third series championship in a very close five-car battle to the end. He was a two-time winner during the season.
In their fourth season at the speedway, the Late Models are poised for some big things this year. Some big announcements are forthcoming, but one thing can be revealed. The August 24th Cottonwood Classic will pay $4,000 to win. Several top drivers are looking to make Southern Oregon Speedway their home track this season. This could present a challenge to John Dees, who won a close championship battle with Nathan Augustine on the strength of one feature win and five second place finishes.
The 2019 season will kick off with the Spring Buster event on May 4th, offering Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Hornets. In recent seasons, racers have been calling for special playdays to test and tune their race cars. Unfortunately, unfavorable weather has caused the cancellation of those preseason events in each of the past three years. McCann has booked playdays for both April 13th and 27th to give racers an opportunity to sort things out before the season begins.
The first special event takes place on Memorial Day Weekend, May 25th. This will be the Third Annual Disorder On The Southern Border event for The Iron Giant Street Stock Series. Joining them in an action-packed program will be the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Late Model Lites, Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars and OTRO Hardtops.
The hits keep coming with the 7th Annual Roger Haudenshild Tribute race on June 1st. IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Modifieds will be joined by the first of three scheduled appearances for the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks. Late Models and Southern Oregon Dwarf cars make this another event you won't want to miss.
On the heels of the successful Malicious Monster Truck Tour event last year, the Monster Trucks have been booked for June 8th and 9th. The event will be presented by Dave's Carpet and Vinyl Liquidators of Medford. June 22nd will be the annual IMCA Wild West Speedweek event, featuring IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars.
July 6th is Veterans Night, meaning all active and retired military personnel with valid ID get in free. The Winged Sprint Cars will be featured that night along with Late Models, Late Model Lites, Mini Stocks and Hornets. The following week will be Pepsi Bike Night, which offers bike giveaways and free admission for kids and features Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks, Late Model Lites, Mini Stocks, Hornets and OTRO Hardtops. Willamette Valley Bank Night returns on July 20th with Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars.
August will be a month filled with special races that you won't want to miss. The Third Annual Herz Precision Parts Cascade Wingless Sprint Car Challenge race kicks things off on the 3rd with a special $3,500 to win Wingless Sprint Car race. Late Models, Late Model Lites and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars are also on the bill.
A week later, it's the Second Annual Ironhead Nationals, offering $2,000 to win for the Winged Sprint Cars. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Hornets will make this another great show. The 3rd Annual Hall Of Fame Night happens on August 17th with a program featuring Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Hornets.
On the 24th, it's perhaps the biggest paying Late Model show in Southern Oregon Speedway history. It's the Cottonwood Classic, and the Late Models will compete for $4,000 to win. Winged Sprint Cars will be there along with Mini Stocks, Hornets, Late Model Lites and OTRO Hardtops.
Labor Day Weekend on August 31st and September 1st means it's time for the 3rd Annual R Charles Snyder Salute. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars will be there both nights with the Pro Stocks joining the show on September 1st. That night will also feature a $5,000 to win IMCA Modified Main Event.
The season winds down with Championship Night events on September 7th and 14th in which champions will be crowned in all of the regular divisions. It promises to be another great season on the 3/10 mile clay oval. Lots of big things are in the works, and you can find out more at the track's Facebook page or at www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

New Management Announces Tentative Schedule
For Siskiyou Golden Speedway
Yreka, CA...After being awarded a one-year contract to run the race track at The Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds in Yreka, with the possibility of more years, promoter Kevin Barba released a tentative schedule for the 2019 season. First, Barba renamed the track Siskiyou Golden Speedway, and he then held a special meeting with the racers on January 27th to introduce himself and discuss future plans.
The tentative schedule features the IMCA Sport Modifieds and Mini Stocks prominently, as was the case last year. However, there will be more dates for the popular IMCA Modifieds, several visits from the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks, visits from the Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars, Jefferson State Jalopies and other special attractions and family-friendly events that the fans will enjoy.
The IMCA Sport Modifieds are the growing division at the speedway, and competition has been so tough during these past few seasons that you really never know who will win on any given week. Last season, Trevor Tiffee outran longtime friend Ryder Boswell to win the Sport Modified championship. Both drivers won their first career features in this division. The Sport Modifieds will have multiple bigger races, including the annual Bo Hittson Memorial on Memorial Day Weekend.
The Mini Stocks continue to be the best way for new racers to get involved in racing at Yreka, and they too had a close season-long battle last year between Marilyn Yawnick, Mike Whitaker and Terry Kendrick. Yawnick prevailed in the end on the strength of three feature wins, making her a three-time champion.
As local interest appears to have waned in recent seasons, the IMCA Modifieds have been relegated to special appearances in recent seasons. IMCA acknowledged Ryan McDaniel as the champion last season as the division met the bare minimum for a championship season with four events. McDaniel was a one-time winner. Tentatively, the Modifieds have been penciled in for about a half-dozen races, but that could increase as the schedule is fleshed out.
The Klamath Falls, Oregon based Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks called Yreka their home track last season, and that will continue to be the case this year with several appearances scheduled. This includes the 5th Annual Billy Geyer Memorial race on May 4th. This will also be a Tri State Pro Stock Challenge race with a $2,000 first prize, meaning there should be several top drivers from Oregon, California and Nevada. On the strength of his eight feature wins on the circuit, Dr Scott Lenz defended his 2018 series championship, and the five-time Yreka winner was also crowned as the track champion.
After a trio of playays scheduled on March 16th and 30th and April 6th, the season will open with IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Pro Stocks on April 13th. There are several special fan friendly attractions, including April 20th Little League Night and Easter Egg Hunt. Again, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Mini Stocks will be there. Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars make their first of three scheduled appearances as part of the April 27th show before the Billy Geyer race a week later.
Memorial Day Weekend has been adjusted to highlight two of the track's special memorial events. On May 25th, the Bo Hittson Memorial race pays tribute to the fallen police officer and past Yreka racer who was killed in the line of duty. The Sport Modifieds will run for extra money as part of their 32 lap Main Event. The IMCA Modifieds will also be there. The next night, the John Arnberg Memorial will be a 38 lap extra money race for the IMCA Modifieds. The speedway will also welcome the Iron Giant Street Stock Series for their lone appearance that night along with the IMCA Sport Modifieds.
June will feature special fan-friendly events such as Dare/First Responders Night on the 8th, Dad's Night, featuring a Kids Bike Race and the popular Fan Appreciation Night on the 15th. Among the racing highlights in June will be the IMCA Wild West Modified Speedweek race on the 21st where the IMCA Sport Modifieds join in support. Fan Appreciation Night will see the first of two appearances from the BCRA Midgets, along with the regular IMCA Sport Modifieds and Mini Stocks on the 29th.
July 4th will be the annual fireworks program and racing, while the July 8th event will be the kickoff for the Western Sprint Tour Winged 360 Sprint Car Speedweek. Dwarf Cars will run in support. More community oriented shows in July will include Armed Forces Night on the 13h and Loggers Night on the 20th
The first two weekends of August will be dark for the county fair, but Barba is hoping to get racing back on the track again on the 17th with Driver Appreciation Night, featuring IMCA Sport Modifieds, Outlaw Pro Stocks and Mini Stocks. In the event that the track is not available, the 24th will be a backup date for Driver Appreciation Night.
The track will stay dark in support of a little league fundraiser event on September 7th, but this is a bit of smart scheduling as IMCA is running their Boone Nationals in Iowa, meaning the track couldn't have point racing for any of their sanctioned classes. Ladies Night a week later offers free admission to women 18 and older and will feature IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and the Jefferson State Jalopies, which appear several times throughout the season.
Normally, the Rod Restad Memorial race might close out the season on September 21st. While that's not the case this year, this big IMCA Modified race is scheduled for 50 laps with the IMCA Sport Modifieds running in support. The BCRA Midgets will be part of the show a week later.
Events are planned throughout October with IMCA Modifieds penciled in for the 5th and 19th. There is a Costume Contest/Trick Or Treat with the drivers event planned to close the season on the 26th. The Ford Focus Midgets are listed on the schedule that night along with IMCA Sport Modifieds.
Barba is still working on adjustments for the schedule and possibly bringing in other special attractions. Furthermore, his team is working on building a new web page and lining up all of the things necessary to make the season happen. His crew will gain their first access to the facility on March 1st and will begin preparations for the coming season. It's all part of the effort to build up a program that the fans will enjoy.
