Coffell Unstoppable In Late Model Win
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 6...Taking the lead from Dave Everson early on, Darren Coffell went on to win the 25 lap Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Coffell currently ranks second in the standings after missing the season opener, and he wasn't seriously challenged after getting the lead. The win paid $1,000 thanks to additional sponsorship from The Northwest Trucking Academy.

There were 16 competitors for the night, but mechanical issues claimed Cliff Massey early on. Another mechanical casualty occurred as Mark Wauge was leading the third heat race and appeared to be headed for victory. He pitted off the back straightaway just before the white flag waved, handing the lead and win in that eight lap event to Rich McCoy ahead of Randy Shafer. McCoy was subbing for Jason Schultz at the last minute as Schultz twisted an ankle in the pits. Point leader Trent Elliott was a double winner as he won his heat race ahead of Bob Dees and also outran Wauge to win the four lap Trophy Dash. Everson held off a strong challenge from Coffell to win the other heat race.

Everson had the outside front row starting position for the Main Event, and he led the opening lap before a front straightaway crash involving Dees, Miles Deubert and Joey Olschowka eliminated Olschowka. Everson continued to lead Coffell and Elliott on the restart. Coffell stalked Everson relentlessly until making a low pass in Turn 4 of the fifth lap to gain the lead. Meanwhile, Eric Massey was enjoying one of his better efforts in fourth as Elliott began to reel in Everson in the second place battle. Deubert brought out a lap 13 yellow flag, and Coffell continued to lead Everson and Elliott on the restart. Massey was enjoying a good battle with McCoy and Paul Guglielmoni for fourth, and the final yellow flag waved for a Dees spin in Turn 2 on lap 17. Coffell continued to lead Everson and Elliott on the restart. Elliott put all kinds of pressure on Everson in the battle for second, but Everson continued to hold him off until a slight bobble in Turn 4 of the 23rd lap opened the door. Elliott raced into the second position, but nobody was going to stop the flying Coffell from picking up the impressive win. Everson settled for third. Paul Culp made a late pass on Eric Massey to grab fourth as Massey settled for fifth, followed by Guglielmoni, McCoy, Dave Foote, Dees and Chris Biggs.

The Late Models return as part of Willamette Valley Bank Night at the speedway on July 20th. Also in action will be the Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Wheeler Wins Third Straight Sprint Car Feature
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 6...Mike Wheeler scored the victory in the 25 lap Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Wheeler is the current point leader and this was his third-straight feature win. The win was worth $1,000 to Wheeler and came aboard his Oregon Outlaws Speed Shop sponsored Sprint Car.

The first eight lap heat race win went to 2009 champion Charlie Thompson ahead of Bailey Hibbard. The second heat race featured an exciting battle between rookie Anissa Curtice and Wheeler, which was won by Curtice. Those four drivers redrew for their lineup in the six lap Scramble, which determined the first two rows of the Main Event. It was Hibbard scoring the win ahead of Wheeler. Bailey's Father, David Hibbard, was a Main Event scratch due to motor issues.

When the green flag waved for the Main Event, Wheeler charged into the lead ahead of Bailey Hibbard and Thompson. Wheeler and Hibbard took their battle far ahead of the pack and were working slower traffic when the only yellow flag waved on the 12th lap after a David Marble spin in Turn 2. Thompson headed to the pits, and Wheeler continued to lead Hibbard and Curtice. With Hibbard not far behind him, Wheeler brought it home to a satisfying victory. Hibbard settled for second, followed by Curtice, Enrique Jaime, Marble, Thompson and Johnny Burke.

The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars return as part of Willamette Valley Bank Night on July 20th. Joining them will be the Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Steele Grabs Third Win In Clean Sweep Effort
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 6...David Steele picked up the win in the 20 lap Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stock Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. This was the reigning track champion's third win at the speedway and sixth on the circuit so far this year.

Steele began his night by holding off his closest championship rival, Ashtin Hedges, to win the four lap Trophy Dash. He then won his eight lap heat race ahead of 2017 champion Kristopher Mix. Hedges outran previous feature winner Hunter Magnan to win the other heat race.

For the Main Event, Steele had the outside front row in a race that only had one incident at the start. As the racers ran down the back straightaway, contact between Mike McLeod and top rookie Dylan Irving sent Irving off the backstretch in an easy barrel roll. The race was restarted, and Irving rejoined the field after missing a lap. Steele led Hedges and Mix at the start. Magnan settled into third on lap three. During the first 10 laps, both Steve Goetz and Mix headed to the pits with flat tires. Steele set a rapid pace up front, and he lapped fourth place Andrew Hall on lap 13. Steele continued to lead the way and would go on to pick up the win. Hedges and Magnan finished a lead lap second and third, respectively. Hall held fourth until a last turn pass gained McLeod the position. Brandyn Wonsyld, Irving, Mix and Goetz completed the finishing order.

The Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stocks return this weekend as part of Pepsi Kids Bike Night. Also on the card will be the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks, JOAT Labs Hornets, Valley Store All Late Model Lites and OTRO Hardtops. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Hedges Snaps Sauer's Four Race Hornet Win Streak
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 6...Tim Hedges scored his first win of the season Saturday night in the 20 lap JOAT Labs Hornets Main Event at Southern Oregon Speedway. The 2016 champion is currently running second in the standings, but he was forced to replace a blown motor from the previous week.

The first eight lap heat race saw Dylan Sauer's night take a bad turn. While leading the race, Sauer was black flagged for not having his window net up, handing the lead and victory to Chris Boynton ahead of Jenna Hedges. Tim Hedges won the other heat race ahead of Quinton Tritchler and also picked up the four lap Trophy Dash win in front of his wife Jenna.

Tim Hedges had the outside front row for the Main Event and raced into the lead at the start, followed by Boynton. A Turn 2 to pass on the second lap gained Quinton Tritchler second with Jenna Hedges following into third. However, a low pass in Turn 4 of the third lap saw last starter Dylan Sauer take over third. Sauer pressured Quinton Tritchler until taking second from him on lap seven. The leaders caught slower traffic on lap 11, which presented a challenging moment. A slower car took Tim Hedges into the infield as Sauer raced by on the outside. Hedges recovered and got back on the track, retaking the lead by the time they exited Turn 2. Jenna Hedges made a pass in traffic on lap 14 to take over the third position, and the only yellow flag of the race flew on lap 17 after Lacey Sauer blew a motor. Tim Hedges led the restart and the remaining laps to wrap up a clean sweep effort. Dylan Sauer settled for second, followed by Jenna Hedges, Quentin Tritchler, Ryan Nelson, Chris Boynton, Zach Nelson, Bree Tritchler, Shawn Nelson and Jenna Silva.

The JOAT Labs Hornets are back this week as part of Pepsi Kids Bike Night. Also competing will be the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks, Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stocks, Valley Store All Late Model Lites and OTRO Hardtops. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Payant Wins Late Model Lites Race
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 6...Ross Payant won the 20 lap Valley Store All Late Model Lites Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Payant is a longtime racer who had been retired in recent seasons. With the retirement of car owner Lee Doty, Payant was given the opportunity to drive Doty's car. After a bumpy start a week earlier, he looked impressive in winning the 20 lap Main Event.

It was point leader Charlie Eaton picking up the win in the four lap Trophy Dash, followed by Eric Aos. Unfortunately for Aos, mechanical issues ended his night prematurely. Payant won the eight lap heat race with Eaton in pursuit. Jim Cunningham suffered mechanical issues in the heat race to end his night as well. Payant led at the start with Eaton and Greg Arnold running second and third. Dusty Aos retired from the race on lap 11, and Payant led the entire distance to win, followed by Eaton and Arnold.

The Valley Store All Late Model Lites return this Saturday night along with the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks, Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stocks, JOAT Labs Hornets and OTRO Hardtops. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Outlaw Pro Stocks, Bike Giveaways
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...It's been an exciting season at Southern Oregon Speedway so far, and this Saturday night promises to continue that trend. It's Pepsi Kids Bike Night at the speedway. Thanks to several donations from various businesses and individuals, the speedway will be doing bike giveaways for the kids. In addition to that, all kids 12 and under will get in to watch the show for free. Competing divisions will include the Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks, Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stocks, JOAT Labs Hornets, Valley Store All Late Model Lites and OTRO Hardtops.

When Southern Oregon Speedway opened back in 1996 one of the original divisions on the roster was the Pro Stock division. In 2012, a few of the competitors, including Arlen Heath of Calculated Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning, formed the Outlaw Pro Stock Association to allow the group to travel to other venues. Heath is a staunch supporter of Pro Stock racing and has been the title sponsor for the group for the past few seasons.

Leading the charge of the Pro Stocks is the man who has won the past two championships, Dr Scott Lenz. Lenz has won well were over 100 Main Events in his impressive career, which dates back to the old Medford Raceway track. He was a champion there and in the early years of Southern Oregon Speedway. Beating him has not been an easy task, and he's already won some big races this year as he leads the standings once again.

The last time we saw the Pro Stocks at Southern Oregon Speedway in early June, Scott Flowers offered Lenz a strong challenge. Flowers is a long time supporter of the group and a fixture in the Top 3 in the standings. He passed Lenz to lead several laps before Lenz overtook him and forced him to settle for second. The Flowers family sometimes competes in as many as four cars on race night with Scott's son James Flowers, wife Ginny Flowers and daughter Julia Flowers also competing. Arlen Garrison, who sometimes drives one of the cars, helps make this possible.

The association is now in their eighth season, and a good turnout of competitors is anticipated this week, including such notables as longtime Pro Stock front-runner John David Duffie, Matt Harlow, Bryan Hammond, Jeff Haudenshild, Dean Hackworth, Kenneth LaPlant Jr and Colby Hammond. At press time, there was the possibility of 2015 champion Jeffrey Hudson getting behind the wheel of one of the cars, and two-time series champion Ken Irving is anticipated as well.

As the car count has increased, the racing in the Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stocks has gotten much more intense. Reigning champion and division all time winner David Steele isn't finding the road to victory as easy this year. Though he did win his third race of the season last week, his closest championship rival, Ashtin Hedges, finished a strong second after winning    a heat race earlier in the evening. It's still very close between these two drivers as Hedges will be looking for his second win.

Another driver looking for his second victory this week will be Hunter Magnan, who finished third in the previous race. Other hard chargers to cheer for this week include 2017 champion Kristopher Mix, 2013 champion Steve Goetz, 2014 champion Gary Anderson, Michael McLeod, Andrew Hall and rookies Dylan Irving and Brandyn Wonsyld.

Last week, the fans saw something they hadn't seen all season. Somebody finally beat Dylan Sauer to win a JOAT Labs Hornets Main Event. Sauer has been practically unbeatable, but 2016 champion Tim Hedges accomplished that goal last week. Hedges had blown a motor in the previous race, but his new power plant helped get him wins in all three races in which he started. Hedges is still second to Sauer in a close championship battle. Tim's wife, Jenna Hedges, picked up another third place finish to stay in the title hunt. Other drivers to watch for this week include rookie Quinton Tritchler, Zach Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Chris Boynton and Shawn Nelson.

There's something going on with the Old Time Racers of Oregon Hardtop Association. Car count numbers have gone up just a little bit, and the racing has become more interesting as a result. The drivers race their old time Coupe and Sedan race cars on the track with slick tires and v6 power plants and put on a show for the fans. The first two races have resulted in victory for Dean Cast, while perennial front-runner Mark Minter brushed the back wall last time out to end his race early. Minter is the only driver in the group to have won a Main Event with this group in each of the previous three seasons at Southern Oregon Speedway. He'll be out to make that four this week, and other drivers to watch for our include Bill Trotter, Jay Smith, Chris Mehrer, Matt Butler, Eric DeRamus and Darryl Haugh, who recently came out of a 15 year retirement to join the group.

The Valley Store All Late Model Lites will probably be the fastest race cars on the track, and the three wins so far have gone to three different competitors. Point leader Charlie Eaton, championship rival Greg Arnold and Ross Payant are the winners so far and likely lead the charge this week. Others to watch for include Dusty Aos, Eric Aos and Jim Cunningham.

With kids getting in free and having the possibility of winning a free bike, this will be at night for families to come and enjoy some great racing. Gates open at 5 p.m. with the first race at 7 pm. General Admission Adults are $13 and Seniors 62+ and Veterans are $7. Children 12 and under are free this week. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Ensign Prepares For Cascade Wingless Sprint Car Challenge Title Defense At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...Geoff Ensign and Ted Finkenbinder have announced their intention to make a run at a third-straight Cascade Wingless Sprint Car Challenge victory at Southern Oregon Speedway on August 3rd. The event, which is being presented by Herz Precision Parts, will be offering a $3,500 to win prize, and that's already prompted several drivers to make the commitment to come compete on the 3/10th mile clay oval once again.

Throughout his impressive career, Ensign has claimed victories in both Winged and Wingless Sprint Car racing. He won the Winged 360 Sprint Car championships at Petaluma and Watsonville in 2017 and was a winner in Wingless Sprint racing at the Turkey Night Classic in Ventura as well. This year, Ensign has been competing with the NARC/King of the West Series and is a Top 5 point contender so far.

When it comes to Wingless racing, the combination of Ensign and Finkenbinder has proven to be very impressive. They've won several races together, including the first two Cascade Wingless Sprint Car shows at Southern Oregon Speedway. Finkenbinder is well known for maintaining top-notch race cars, and he will also be inducted into the Calistoga Speedway Hall of Fame this September.

Joining Ensign on the trip will be Shayna Sylvia. Sylvia has achieved some impressive credentials of her own. In 2018, she won the Petaluma Speedway PitsStopUSA.com Wingless Spec Sprint championship, and she's won several Main Events at her home track. This will be her first trip to the White City racing facility.

The two drivers who have finished second in the most recent races, Cody Fendley and Jeffrey Hudson, are planning to compete again this year. It was Fendley collecting a $1,500 second place finish back in 2017. Though he took most of last season off, he plans to return and is a Main Event winner with the Wingless Spec Sprint class at Petaluma already this season. Hudson, who ranked second in the track's Winged Sprint Car class in 2016 and 2018, did a good job in picking up the $1,500 second last year. Though he's been running an IMCA Modified for Don Roemer this season, he's looking forward to the Wingless race.

Shawn Arriaga has achieved quite a bit of success running Winged Sprint cars through the years. Racing is in his family's blood as his grandfather was a Hardtop racer at the old Vallejo Speedway and his mother and father both competed in Sprint Cars throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Shawn has won championships at both Petaluma Speedway and Antioch Speedway. He appeared to be headed for a second place finish at last year's Cascade Sprint Car race when he hit the front wall and rolled. Still, Arriaga had fun, and he's looking forward to this show.

Joining him on the trip up will be second generation racer Ricky Brophy. Brophy has raced in both Wingless and Winged Sprint Cars through the years. He crewed for Arriaga last year at the big show, but he's excited about coming up and competing for the first time. The team will be giving away shirts to some of the fans this year as well.

Also confirmed for this race are Jeremy Wilson and Kevin Pendergrass. In 2017, Wilson came close to a Top 5 finish before settling for sixth. Pendergrass would end up ninth in the 20 car field. These are just some of the Stars anticipated for the big Show on August 3rd. more are rumored to be committing, including such Oregon standouts as Lindsay Barney, past Wingless Sprint champion Tim Alberding and Lance Hallmark. Barney finished third in the big show last year is a perennial title contender with the Oregon Wingless Sprint group.

A field of at least 15 to 20 competitors is anticipated for the big event. Entry for car and driver is $80, while pit passes for the crew are $30. Pit sign in is at 4:00 pm. Camping is allowed in the pits, though there are no hookups. Faccinto Opens Speedweek Series With Win
At Siskiyou Speedway

Yreka, CA...July 8... Mitchell Faccinto won the opening 30 lap Western Sprint Tour Speedweek Main Event at Siskiyou Golden Speedway. This was the second win at the Yreka track in this series for Faccinto, who won the race back in 2016.

Faccinto had a pole position start for the race and motored ahead of the rest of the pack. Setting a rapid pace, he soon found himself negotiating slower traffic. However, Faccinto continued to make the right moves and maintained his advantage when a late yellow flag waved on lap 26. This would seem to give Seth Bergman an opportunity to make a challenge, but Faccinto again charged ahead when the green flag waved and brought it home to a satisfying victory. Bergman settled for second, followed by Justin Sanders, Tony Gualda, fast qualifier Justyn Cox, Colby Copeland, Sean Becker, Jessie Love IV, Devon Borden and Tanner Holmes. The 10 lap heat race wins were earned by Love, Tyler Thompson and Jake Haulot.

The Sport Modified division was hastily added to the schedule, but the lateness of their inclusion meant they were racing for purse and trophies, but not points. Randy Wright took advantage of his front row starting position to win his first-ever 20 lap Main Event. It was Yuba City visitor Jimmy Ford stopping by the speedway on his way home from Oregon to claim a second place finish, followed by Ryder Boswell, Jason Ferguson and Jack Waldon III.

The highly-competitive Mini Stock division produced another new 20 lap Main Event winner as Terry Alford took the checkered flag ahead of the pack. Championship contender Zak McMurry finished second ahead of Darek Alford, Mike Kendrick and Mike Whitaker.

The speedway will be dark this Saturday night, but racing resumes on July 20th with a special event. It will be the O'Reilly Auto Parts Jerry Casson Memorial/Loggers Night. The Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks will be competing along with the IMCA Sport Modifieds and Mini Stocks. For further information, go to www.siskiyougoldenspeedway.com.

Henson, Steele Win Special Fourth Of July Race
At Siskiyou Speedway

Yreka, CA...July 4...Merissa Henson won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event Thursday night at Siskiyou Golden Speedway. This was her second win of the season in the Donny Bottoms owned Car. Henson started back in the fourth row of the race and made her way to the head of the pack. She posted the victory with Ryder Boswell enjoying a season-best second place finish ahead of fifth row starter Jack Walden III. Joby Shields had his best effort of the year in fourth, followed by Colt Boswell, Chad Wormington, Gary Foster, Randy Wright, Donovan Rodgers and Sean Hulsey. Wright and Henson won their respective eight lap heat races, while Rich McCoy won the four lap Trophy Dash. Unfortunately for McCoy, he joined incoming point leader Ethan Killingsworth on the sidelines early in the Main Event.

David Steele won the 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event. This was the third win at Yreka and fifth on the circuit for the current Medford point leader. Steele shared the front row with Kristopher Mix and would race into the lead. Hoping to grab his second win of the season, Kassidy Wilkinson battled his way past Mix, but Steele proved too quick as he went on to victory. Unofortnately, Wilkinson didn't go to tech and was disqualified. Mix was elevated to a second place finish, followed by Darek Alford, Mike Whitaker, Michael Kendrick, Terry Alford, Zak McMurry and Hunter Magnan. Mix won the four lap Trophy Dash, and eight lap heat race wins were earned by Steele and McMurry.

The Jefferson State Jalopies made their fourth appearance of the season, and Michael Colson won his second 20 lap Main Event. Colson held off Trophy Dash winner JJ Smith to pick up the victory. Karl Bernstein and Tony Parker completed the finishing order. Colson also won the eight lap heat race.

On Monday, July 8th, the Western Sprint Tour Winged 360 Sprint Car Speedweek Series kicks off in Yreka. Joining them on the card will be the Mini Stocks. For further information, go to www.siskiyougoldenspeedway.com.

Luckman Back On Top In Super Late Models,
Fugate Remains Perfect In Sportsman Lates

By Daren Ricks-Campbell www.drcmotorsportsmedia.com
Coos Bay, CA...July 6...Coos Bay native Preston Luckman found himself back in victory lane Saturday night after a close race with the returning Toby Mcintyre in an exciting Super Late Model feature at Coos Bay Speedway. Fans in attendance were treated to an excellent battle throughout as Luckman, McIntyre and defending champ Brody Montgomery all jostled for the top spot.

After all was said and done, it was Luckman picking up his 3rd victory of the season, passing Montgomery for the most in the class this season. McIntyre, Montgomery, Deven Brown and Thor Kristensen completed the Top 5. Luckman also grabbed the win in the Trophy Dash, while Montgomery won the lone heat race.

In Sportsman Late Model competition, Bandon’s Braden Fugate has reigned supreme so far in 2019. After another dominant win Saturday night, Fugate now sits 6 for 6 on the year, and is showing no signs of slowing down.

It was a clean sweep on the night for Fugate, who won the heat race and Trophy Dash as well. Defending class champ Dyllan Siewell also made a successful return to action, placing 2nd in the feature. Mike Taylor would round out the running order in 3rd.

Hometown driver Daniel Land took home his first Street Stock win of the season last night. Land bounced back after mechanical gremlins ended his night his last time out at the speedway, besting four time winner Steve Dubisar and Justin Krossman on his way to the checkered flag. Dubisar, Krossman, Paten Reigard and Sam Talon would complete the Top 5.

Like Fugate, Land also swept the night for the Street Stocks, collecting heat race and Trophy Dash wins along the way. Saturday marked the season debut for Krossman, who took 2nd in the Dash and 3rd in the heat race.

For the 4th time in 2019, Myrtle Point’s Hannah Robison visited victory lane in the Hornets class. Robison’s victory didn’t come easily however, as she had to grab the lead late from Gabrielle Boles, who had lead the first 20+ laps of the event. Boles would complete the race in a career best 2nd, while Tyler Tullos, Steven Parker and George Wheeler rounded out the Top 5.

Tullos took the win in the earlier Trophy Dash, while Boles and Robison snagged the two heat races.

Young James Shingleton finally reached victory lane for the first time in his career Saturday night in the Jr Stingers. The night marked a big breakthrough for Shingleton, who also won the earlier heat race. Griff Smith, who has dominated the class for most of the season, won the Trophy Dash before bowing out of the main event late. Alex Butler, Smith and newcomer Drake Vincent completed the running order.

Becker, Micheli, Allen Score Silver Dollar Speedway Victories

Chico, CA...July 4...Sean Becker scored the victory in the 30 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Thursday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. This was a special Fourth of July celebration event, which was concluded by the annual Fireworks Display. Five-time champion Becker got a ride in the Ivan Worden car for this show and overtook Marysville point leader Michael Ing on the 14th lap for the lead.

Reigning Petaluma Speedway champion Jake Haulot led the opening lap before Ing went by for the lead. Jake Andreotti settled into third and took the second spot from Haulot on lap eight. Ing, Andreotti and Becker ran closely, and Becker slipped past Andreotti for second on lap 12. A lap 13 yellow flag waved for Kenny Wanderstandt in Turn 3. Ing continued to lead Becker and Brad Bumgarner on the restart, but Becker slipped past Ing for the lead on lap 14. Bumgarner moved into the second position on lap 15 with Alex Justeson gaining third a lap later. Ing came roaring back to gain second on lap 25 with Justeson following into third. A yellow flag waved for Ron LaPlant in Turn 4 on lap 28. On the restart, Justeson made a strong move to get around Ing for second as Becker continued to lead. However, Ing made the last lap pass to reclaim the runner-up finish. Nobody was stopping Becker as he won ahead of Ing. Bumgarner also made a last lap move to gain third as Justeson settled for fourth, followed by previous winner Chelsea Blevins, Andreotti, Kyle Offill, Casey McClain, Kenny Allen and Peter Paulson.

There were 23 competitors for the special event with Becker clocking the quickest lap on the quarter-mile clay oval with a time of 12.128. Allen was second quick at 12.180. The eight lap heat race wins went to Jake Haulot by a comfortable margin ahead of Andreotti, and Billy Wallace over Justeson. Ing won the eight lap Trophy Dash ahead of Becker.

Matt Micheli won both the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified and Super Stock Main Events. Micheli is making a double division effort and he should be leading the standings in both divisions after this event. Micheli's win in the Sport Modified feature was his first of the season.

Two-time Street Stock champion Phil Marino paced the opening lap of the IMCA Sport Modified Main Event before Micheli took over. A yellow flag waved on lap six for Tyler Rodgers in Turn 3. Micheli continued to lead the way on the restart with Philip Shelby briefly taking second from Marino. However, Marino regained the second spot a lap later as Shelby settled into third. Micheli set a good pace out front and went on to victory ahead of Marino, Shelby, recent Antioch winner Scott Savell, Mike Ficklin, Greg Barnes, Kenny Shrader, Rodgers and Mike Merritt. There were two eight lap heat races with wins going to Savell in a close battle with Rodgers, and Marino ahead of Shelby.

The win in the 20 lap Super Stock Main event was the third of the season for Micheli as he took the lead in a close championship race with Brent Lawrence. Micheli had the pole for the Main Event and led from the drop of the green flag. Petaluma racer Manny Avila held second for two laps before being passed by Lawrence. Avila held the third position until being overtaken by Richard Workman on the final lap. Micheli scored the victory ahead of Lawrence, Workman, Avila, Gary Newman, Ken Micheli, Bill Hall, Clay Daly, Fritz Zanker and Jake Van Tol. Avila won his eight lap heat race ahead of Hall, and Micheli won the other heat in front of Workman.

Kyle Allen made a late past to win the 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event. Allen is the current point leader, and this was his fifth straight win of the season. Wes Smock has picked up a pair of victories at Orland Raceway in recent weeks, and he settled into the early Main Event lead ahead of Orland championship contender Keith Ross and Zach Lindgren. Allen moved into third on lap four, and the Lead 3 competitors ran closely. A yellow flag waved on lap 12, and Smock continued to lead Ross and Allen on the restart. Ross and Allen both raced past Smock for the Top 2 positions on lap 15. Allen shadowed Ross until overtaking him for the lead on lap 18. Allen went on to score the impressive win, followed by Ross, Lindgren, Toby Merrifield, Robert Warf, Paul Stephens, Jeremy Langenderfer, James West, Jeremiah Creedon and Maurice Murrell. Eight lap heat race wins were earned by Alan, Kevin Berns and Carl Pavlik.

Racing will continue on July 12th with Dollar Night at the speedway. All tickets will be $1 as the Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Modifieds will be competing. For further information, go to www.silverdollarspeedway.com.

Golobic, Norton, Ewing Win Placerville Fourth Of July Races

Placerville, CA...July 4...Shane Golobic won the 25 lap Thompson's Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Car Main event Thursday night at Placerville Speedway. This was a special Fourth of July event that was capped by a Fireworks Display for the packed grandstands.

Golobic took the lead from the start as they battled fiercely for second behind him. Past Petaluma Speedway champion Bradley Terrell held second when a lap two yellow flag flew for Cole Macedo. On the restart, Tony Gualda moved around the outside of Terrell to take over second as Golobic continued to lead the way. Many-time champion Andy Forsberg made a high pass in Turn 4 on the fourth lap to take the third position from Terrell. Broken steering resulted in Gualda crashing off of Turn 1 and suffering heavy front-end damage for a lap 12 red flag. Gualda was not injured, and Golobic continued to lead Forsberg and Jake Morgan on the restart. Golobic would go on to the $1,500 victory, followed by Forsberg, Morgan, Bobby McMahan, Justyn Cox, Terrell, Kalib Henry, Ryan Robinson, Greg DeCaires V and Andy Gregg.

There were 26 competitors on hand for this special event, and Golobic turned the quarter-mile clay oval in time of 10.813 for the fastest lap, beating the 10.905 of Forsberg. The eight lap heat race wins went to DeCaries, Morgan, Terrell and Macedo. There was also a 12 lap B Main. Cox led all the way for the victory, followed by Robinson, Billy Butler and Cody Lamar.

Jay Norton won the 20 lap Limited Late Model Main Event. Ray Trimble set the early pace, but a backstretch pass on lap four gained Norton the lead. Ray Trimble and Dave Trimble got together on the backstretch with Ray Trimble falling back several positions as Matt Davis settled into second ahead of Rod Oliver. Dan Brown and Trimble soon made this an exciting four-car battle for the second position. Brown gained second briefly on lap 13, only to surrender the spot to a low pass in Turn 4 of the 15th lap by Oliver. Ray Trimble went around Oliver a lap later to take over second for good. However, nobody was stopping Norton as he won ahead of Ray Trimble, Brown, Davis, Tyler Lightfoot, Oliver, Dave Trimble and Chad Hammer. The eight lap heat race win went to Norton.

John Ewing emerged the unlikely winner of the 20 lap Jay's Mobile Welding Pure Stock Main Event. The race was led from the start by pole sitter Oroville Owens. Rick Grunert took second from Stephanie Hansen on lap two and held the position until being passed by Dave Silva on a lap nine restart. Nick Baldwin settled into second on a lap 10 restart following a Silva spin. Jason Palmer briefly took the second position from Baldwin on lap 15, but Baldwin was back in second on a lap 17 restart. However, contact from Baldwin sent leader Owens spinning in Turn 2 for another yellow flag. Track officials penalized Baldwin to the back of the pack for his part in the incident. Ewing had been running along in third after starting back in the 14th position. He suddenly found himself leading when the green flag waved, and Ewing went on to the surprising victory, followed by Palmer, Rick Grunert, Scott Grunert, Ronnie Richards, Mel Byers, Rich Lindgren, Owens, Baldwin and Dan Jinkerson. The eight lap heat race wins went to Jarred Beddow, Palmer and Baldwin.

Racing continues on July 13th with the special Al Hinds Tribute race. The Thompson's Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars will be competing along with the Limited Late Models, Jay's Mobile Welding Pure Stocks and NorCal Dwarf Cars. For further information, go to www.placervillespeedway.com.

DeBenedetti, Grimes, Weller Win
At Little Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 5...Jayme DeBenedetti continued to roll with her third 20 lap Beginners Box Stock Main Event win Friday night at Little Southern Oregon Speedway. DeBenedetti picked up a  heat race win, and she raced past Isaac Grimes on the second lap of the rapidly run Main Event. Caleb Ranney settled into second on the third lap and took up pursuit of the flying DeBenedetti. The leaders entered heavy traffic on the seventh lap, which made the race close. Both DeBenedetti and Ranney didn't let the slower Karts stop them, although both had scary moments. The only yellow flag of the race flew for Talia Colley in Turn 4 of the 18th lap. DeBenedetti resumed her rapid pace and collected the victory, followed by Ranney, Grimes, Colley and Saige King.

Brenden Weller snapped Trevor Taylor's two-race win streak in both the Open Flat Track Bikes and the 450cc class. Both 12 lap races had a similar tone. Taylor raced into the early lead, but Weller provided serious pressure as they ran side-by-side at times. The fifth lap proved to be the opportunity in both races for Weller to make what would be his winning passes. Weller went on to win the Open Bike race ahead of Taylor and Theo Lount. Taylor also finished second in the 450cc class. In the 250cc class, Taylor collected his third-straight win ahead of Lount and Carl Tresser.

Trevor Grimes swept both six lap heat races and the 20 lap 250 Kart Main Event. Grimes led every lap in victory with Emma Rodgers scoring a personal-best second place finish ahead of Cadyn Smith. The win also broke the point battle wide open as Jacob James suffered motor problems early on and scratched for the evening.

The Burson family enjoyed wins in both the Big Trike and the Small Trike classes. In the Small class, Mike Burson did a wheelie at the start/finish line and stalled, giving his daughter Mikayla Burson a huge lead that she would manage to cling to for the victory. Mike Burson was a close second. In the big class, Mike Burson trailed Brent Hagen for one lap before Burson took the lead and pulled away to victory. Hagen settled for second with Kristian Smart third.

Brody Taylor scored his third-straight 12 lap Small Bike Main Event win. Taylor led from the outset with Jeremiah Pruitt not too far behind in second. Jax Taylor finished third.

The little track will host Outlaw Karts, Flat Track Bikes, Trikes and Quads again on Friday, July 19th. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Weiser, Dagada, King Pick Up Yreka Outlaw Kart Wins.

Yreka, CA...July 5...Braden Weiser picked up his first 20 lap 500 Open Outlaw Kart victory Friday night at the little track at Siskiyou Golden Speedway. In preliminaries, Weiser was one of four different eight lap heat race winners along with Kenny Boardman, Donny Ritcheson and point leader Brionna Fuller. This put Braden Weiser on the pole for the Main Event alongside his brother, Bodee Weiser. Braden Weiser would race into the lead and hold off Ritcheson to earn the win. Boardman finished third, followed by Bodee Weiser, Josh Steinhoff and Fuller. Scott Morton was a Main Event scratch.

Dallin Dagada picked up his first 20 lap 250 Kart Main Event win. Like the 500 class, there were four different eight lap heat race winners, including Drew Berry, Logan McKnight, Dagata and point leader Cale Cunial. Cunial had the pole for the race and had his fourth win in his sights. However, Dagata was a bit quicker on this occasion and forced Cunial to settle for second. Taylor Fuller finished third, followed by Nicolas Perrin, McKnight and Berry. Cole Cunial was a Main Event scratch.

Mason King made his first appearance of the season and left with the 20 lap Restricted Box Stock Main Event win. Point leader Chayce Smith, championship contender Carson Henson, Mikey Wheeler Jr and King made it four different eight lap heat race winners. Smith had the pole for the Main Event alongside hard charger Austin Bartholomew. However, King managed to race past the duo in front of him and would hold off Smith for an impressive win. Bartholomew settled for third, followed by Henson, Wheeler and Ryan Hirschbock. Shailene Horn was a Main Event scratch.

Brandon Steinhoff swept the two eight lap heat races and the 20 lap Unrestricted Box Stock Main Event. This was his second win of the season. Steinhoff had the pole for the Main Event and would charge to the victory ahead of Hunter Colson, point leader Hunter Granger and Tyler Steinhoff as Paige Boswell was a Main Event scratch.

Brianna Fuller won the 12 lap UAS Speedway Kart Main Event. After holding off Steve Rambo to win one of the eight lap heat races, she managed to beat Rambo once again to win the Main Event. Ed Grubb finished third, and heat race winner Larry Fuller was a Main Event scratch.

Steve Rambo won the 12 lap 4 Cycle Main Event and one of the heat races. Lori Fuller was the other heat race winner and finished second to maintain her point lead.

All of the various Outlaw Kart divisions will return to the little track at the fairgrounds for another Friday night race on July 19th. For further information, go to the Yreka Outlaw Kart Facebook Page.

Independence Day Celebration
At Mountain Valley Raceway Saturday Night

Hayfork, CA...It's been a few weeks since the last race at Mountain Valley Raceway in Hayfork, but there's a big show on tap for this Saturday night. This will be the annual Independence Day Celebration, which will include a big Fireworks Display. The Hobby Stocks will be back to compete along with the Mini Stocks, B Modifieds and Enduro cars.

Track officials were happy to announce that there will be increased prize money in the Hobby Stock and Mini Stock divisions this Saturday night. Both divisions will be racing for $500 to win, $300 for second and $200 for third. That kind of prize money is sure to make the racing more exciting.

Russ Newman continues to get the job done in the Hobby Stock ranks. Newman won the most recent Main Event, while Burl Richardson returned to the scene and picked up the Trophy Dash win earlier that evening. These two drivers are very competitive whenever they're on the track and are always tough to beat. Some of the racers to watch for this week include one-time feature winner Tressen Smith, Isaac Kephart, Josh Michaels and Mikey Ruth.

William Young and Joey Young have been recent winners in the highly-competitive Mini Stock class. The division continues to grow with some great competitors making the show that much more fun to watch. Ian Thulin has been fast in his truck this year as has Tony Quinones. Other stars of the Mini Stocks include Larry Richardson, Ricky Berry and Jack Turner.

Patrick Solometo loosened the grip Tressen Smith had on the B Modified class by winning the most recent Main Event. Smith, Solometo and Joe Short have been giving the fans a show as the Speedway continues to try to grow this class.

A night of racing at Hayfork isn't complete until the track gets watered and the wild and crazy Enduro cars are turned loose for the fans to enjoy. Most recently, Jeff Drake scored the feature victory. Bryan Gummerus has been the man to beat so far this year, and he will certainly be tough to beat this week. Other stars in the class include William Young and JD Hudman.

Not only will the fans get to watch some great racing, but the Fireworks Display will be icing on the cake. It's going to be a good time to be at the track this Saturday night. For further information, go to the Mountain Valley Raceway Facebook page.

Sample, Simmons $1,000 Winners
At Diamond Mountain Speedway

Susanville, CA...July 4-5...Cory Sample and Riley Simmons were the big winners of the 20 lap IMCA Modified Main Events on Thursday and Friday night at Diamond Mountain Speedway. Both races were to pay $1,000 to the winner, and a field approaching 30 drivers came to compete at the big event.

On Thursday, it was past IMCA Western Regional champion Cory Sample besting the field for the 20 lap feature win. Chasing him across the line for a second place finish was reigning Yreka champion Ryan McDaniel. Riley Simmons finished third, followed by track championship contender Wade Kennemore and current point leader Chris Nieman. Reigning State of California IMCA champion Shane DeVolder finished sixth. Mitch Murphy placed eighth ahead of Nevada star Robert Miller and Matt Murphy.

On Friday night, it was Riley Simmons rising to the occasion with a 20 lap triumph. This was his third win of the season at his home track. Point leader Chris Nieman earned his third runner-up finish of the season. Cory Sample finished fourth ahead of Ryan McDaniel. Robert Miller placed seventh ahead of Chris Olexiewicz, Larry McCracken and Wade Kennemore.

The IMCA Sport Modifieds got to race for $500 to win is their two shows, and the winner on both occasions turned out to be Bakersfield star Kevin Johnson. On Thursday, Johnson picked up the win ahead of track championship hopeful Craig Nieman, Shayna Nieman, Jimmy Ray Huffman, Ryan Svensson, Colton Chew, point leader Richard Longacre, Joe Marlow, Colby Russell and reigning champion Jason Emmot. Johnson wrapped up his impressive weekend with the Friday night win ahead of Yreka regular Randy Wright. Ryan Svensson ended up third ahead of Shayna Nieman, Jason Emmett, Richard Longacre, Colby Russell, Colton Chew and Nathan Howard.

In Hobby Stock action, Colton Lawson picked up a pair of 15 lap Main Event wins. On Thursday,  Royce Goetz picked up a second place finish in his first appearance at the speedway. Steve Gordon placed third, followed by recent Gordon Russell Sr Memorial Hobby Stock winner Randy Boyd, Richard Italiano, Doug Weeks, point leader Jacob Hutson, Steve Buhr, David Woods and Fred Kresge. Colton Lawson continued his momentum on Friday as he won again with Steve Buhr a season-best second. Doug Weeks finished third ahead of David Woods. Darren Ballentine ended up sixth, followed by Fred Kresge and Jacob Hutson.

The Mini Stock division was invaded by Orland Raceway point leader Tom Davis, and Davis left town with victories in both 15 lap Main Events. On Friday, previous feature winner  Suzi Schmidt would finish second, followed by point leader Larry Whitebird, Bion Barr and Johnny Moya. Billy Gibson finished seventh ahead of Anthony Hovland and Will Evenson. On Friday, Tom Davis was chased across the line by Larry Whitebird. This was the fifth second place effort for Whitebird as he pursues his first win of the season. Will Evenson finished third ahead of Hayfork visitors Ian Thulin and Jack Turner. Anthony Hovland settled for sixth ahead of Nick Boucher, Bion Barr and Billy Gibson.

By all accounts, this was a successful event, and Friday night racing resumes this week with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks all in action. For further information, go to www.dmspeedway.com

Pit Stops

Fourth of July weekend saw several tracks offering up special events for the fans. At Southern Oregon Speedway, there was a five division program that was billed as Veterans Night at the races. All active and retired military personnel were invited to enjoy the races for free. Track announcer Cory Penfold offered a moving tribute to those who have served this country proudly and have made it possible for us to continue to enjoy a night at the races.

The Late Model division is gaining a foothold at Southern Oregon Speedway. For the second straight week, there were 16 competitors for the program, and everybody's talking about the $4,000 to win Cottonwood classic that's on the schedule for August 24th. Things are happening. Because the Medford area Late Model effort is just developing, racers like Trent Elliott and Darren Coffel, who have been active at other venues in Oregon in more recent years, seem to carry just a bit more of an advantage over the locals.

However, the locals are certainly getting quicker. The best example of that was seven-time IMCA Modified champion Mark Wauge. Wauge looked every bit as fast as the Top 2 point competitors, but while leading his heat race, he suffered a night ending mechanical issue with the rear end of his car. That left Mark wondering what could have been for the night as he watched from the sidelines.

Another local area leadfoot looking impressive was past Pro Stock champion Dave Everson. We've noted the steady improvement of Everson this year, but he certainly took it up a notch by outrunning Coffell to win his heat race. Everson would even lead some of the early Main Event laps before Coffell went racing by. At that point, nobody was going to touch Coffell as he sped to the win and strengthened his status as the second-ranked driver in the standings.

Everson, meanwhile, was determined to hold onto second. Making that a challenge with the fact that point leader Trent Elliott was equally determined to make the pass. Elliott looked very impressive in winning both his heat race and the Trophy Dash, but the Main Event win was just out of his grasp. Everson presented a big enough challenge for Elliott, and it wasn't until a slight bobble with two laps to go that Elliott seized the opportunity to grab the second-place finish. This was perhaps the battle of the race.

For Everson, it's another clear indication that his #40 car is getting dialed in. We've witnessed him winning his share of Pro Stock Main Events through the years, and seeing him get a Late Model win won't be a surprise. As it was, his third place finish was his best effort to date. it came ahead of Cottage Grove championship contender Paul Culp, who finished fourth. Culp has a pair of wins at his home track and figured he'd come test the waters at Southern Oregon Speedway for a possible return in August.

Rich McCoy has been having some success in his IMCA Sport Modified at Siskiyou Speedway this year. He's already picked up a pair of wins there. He showed up on Saturday to turn some wrenches for Jason Schultz in the #33 Late Model. Schultz got his car from the Rapp Racing shop last year, and he's been getting it dialed in week by week. Jason had high hopes of a good night, but a twisted ankle prior to the races put at end to that. He wanted to race, but he realized there was no way it would happen.

McCoy was in the right place at the right time when Wauge headed for the pits as he picked up the heat race victory. He was in the mix in the battle for a Top 5 position with the rapidly improving Eric Massey and two-time Petaluma Speedway champion Paul Guglielmoni. Massey is another racer who got a car through Rapp Racing, and he had his best performance yet as he ended up with a fifth place finish.

After hitting the wall in his heat race and doing a little bit of damage, Guglielmoni was just happy to get out of the place with a sixth place finish, but he looks forward to returning in August. Behind him in seventh was McCoy. Not a bad effort for the past Southern Oregon Speedway Mini Stock champion and winner of several Modified races through the years, especially considering he had no idea he would be driving the car until just before the show was going to start.

The Late Model division at Southern Oregon Speedway has people talking, and there is much anticipation for the release of the flier that will give more details on the August 24th Cottonwood Classic. The Winged Sprint Cars will be running the Ironhead Nationals event on August 10th, which is slated to pay $2,000 to win. This is a week after Southern Oregon Speedway hosts the biggest Wingless 360 Sprint Car race in the state, the Cascade Wingless Sprint Car Challenge. It's thanks to  sponsorship from Herz Precision Parts that this race came into being three years ago.

Meanwhile, the Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars were back for their fourth event of the season. As far as car count is concerned, it wasn't their strongest showing of the year. Two of the competitors headed up north to be a part of the three-race series happening there. Blaine Cory discovered a motor problem during the week that would take him out of the running. A motor problem also got reigning champion David Hibbard after hot laps, forcing him to scratch for the rest of the show.

It's suddenly looking like it's Mike Wheeler's year to shine. However, the Outlaw 500 Kart star is taking nothing for granted. With his brother, long time Sprint Car racer Vern Wheeler Jr, as his crew chief, the #1w car is looking faster than anybody these days. Still, Mike knows that he has to drive it to the victory. A heat race reminded him that he hasn't won anything just yet.

It was the second heat of the night, and Eureka, California based rookie Anissa Curtice showed everybody just how much she is improving. Anissa has spent the past several seasons racing Outlaw Karts, and she's been enjoying the move up to Sprint Cars. With Wheeler giving here all kinds of pressure, Curtice scored a very popular first heat race win in the class.

Wheeler again finished second in the Scramble, which was won by Bailey Hibbard. Bailey has had a mixed bag of results so far this year, but Saturday was a reminder that he is somebody to be taken seriously in the battle. After all, he has won five Main Events at the speedway in the past three years, and he's hungry to get his sixth. To do that, the younger Hibbard knew that he had to beat Wheeler. With his outside front row start in the Main Event, however, Wheeler bolted into the lead at the waving of the green flag.

Though the car count wasn't big, the racing at the front of the pack between these two drivers was close. They even caught slower traffic, which might have made things interesting had it not been for the lone yellow flag slowing the pace. Wheeler took charge from there, and though Hibbard wasn't far behind him, he was in no position to stop Wheeler from his third consecutive feature triumph. Wheeler managed to increase his point advantage even more over Enrique Jaime, who was able to get a fourth place finish behind a career-best third for Curtice.

Charlie Thompson, who is a past champion and somebody who is still in title contention this year, managed to win a heat race to start his night, but he pitted during the one yellow flag period in the Main Event from his third place position. The division will be back on July 20th, and hopefully some of the teams will have their mechanical issues sorted out as they come back for their fifth event of the season in what is surely a stacked program.

The Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stock division is getting more interesting by the week. There's also word of a potential new team joining the class in the weeks ahead. Leading the pack these days is still the man with over 30 career feature wins at the speedway, David Steele. However, he has two young guns chasing him. There's Ashtin Hedges not too many points behind him, and 2018 runner up Hunter Magnan is trying to make up for a bad start.

Saturday night was just one of those nights where you weren't going to stop Steele. He had a good week, which started with his fourth of July victory in Yreka. As with Yreka, the feature win at Southern Oregon Speedway would be David's third win, giving him six total so far this season. He wasn't seriously threatened, but it was heat race winner Hedges taking the second place finish and keeping the point damage to a minimum. Steele won everything he was in, making it a clean sweep, while Magnan made more point progress with his third place effort.

Incoming third-ranked competitor Kristopher Mix was coming off of a night to brag about in Yreka. He looked good in winning the Trophy Dash and ending up second in the Main Event after the original second place finisher was disqualified for not going to tech. He was thinking that Saturday might be his night, but like 2013 Mini Stock champion Steve Goetz, Mix headed to the pits with a flat tire during the first half of the race. There is a rumor of the possibility of Mix making a move up in divisions in 2020, though it doesn't mean he would not be running Mini Stocks. The guy chasing Mix for third in the standings didn't fare that much better. Rookie Dylan Irving started his Main Event by rolling off of the back straightaway. The damage wasn't so bad, and he still managed to finish the race.

The best battle on the track seemed to be between the Pinto of Andrew Hall and Michael McLeod. Hall held fourth for much of the race, which would be good enough to put him in the Trophy Dash for the next event. McLeod, however, was tenacious and made a last turn pass to grab the position. With his fifth place finish, Hall looked better in his effort than he has all year. He's definitely somebody not afraid to get on the pedal, so once he's got the handling sorted, he'll be somebody to watch.

Tim Hedges is always somebody to watch in the JOAT Labs Hornets. The 2016 champion was licking his wounds after blowing a motor while running third at the previous race. He came back very strong on this occasion as he won both his heat race and the Trophy Dash. Dylan Sauer, meanwhile, had indication that this might not be his night when he received a black flag while leading the other heat. Sauer had neglected to put his window net up, drawing the attention of officials due to the safety concern. This would put him 11th on the grid in the Main Event.

With Hedges lining up on the front row, getting past him would be a tall order. Sauer has been very fast this year, and it wasn't too many laps before he found his way up to third. Impressive rookie Quinton Tritchler was holding second, but Sauer found his way past him. This left only Tim Hedges in his path. The leaders caught slower traffic, and one of the cars pulled down into Hedges' path, possibly in an attempt to get out of the way of Sauer as the race was close. Hedges ended up in the infield, but he quickly corrected his course and had the lead by the time they exited the second turn.

Hedges has been fast from the start of the season, but Sauer has been that much quicker. The clean sweep effort was particularly gratifying as he cut some of the points off of the advantage Sauer carried into the night. Tim's wife, Jenna Hedges, did another good job of getting her car back to the line for a third place finish, while Tritchler maintained his top rookie status in fourth.

Ryan Nelson had a solid effort in fifth. This was certainly much needed after the way his season had gone to this point. He managed to hold off heat race winner Chris Boynton for the fifth place finish, while brother Zach Nelson took a checkered flag in seventh. Zach has been having problems getting his own car to run up to speed, and it was his father Darrel Nelson Jr who suggested he drive his #8g car while they figure out what to do with the #26 car. Zach was particularly grateful and said that he wouldn't even be racing if it wasn't for his father.

The Valley Store All Late Model Lites haven't brought a huge car count to the track this year, but one thing you can say is the racing has been unpredictable. In three events, there have been three different winners. It was reigning champion and current point leader Charlie Eaton winning the opener, while championship contender Greg Arnold won the second event. The second event was the inauspicious return to the sport of long-time Stock Car competitor to Ross Payant.

Prior to the season, 2016 champion Lee Doty made the decision to retire, but he didn't want to give up on the division. As the owner of multiple cars, he thought of somebody who could wheel his fast #7 car to victory. Payant was his choice, given his success in the past. However, a crash in the Trophy Dash at the second event put Ross on the trailer for the rest of the night. This time around, he showed what he was capable of by holding off Eaton to win the heat race and then doing the same in the feature to become the third different winner of the season. Arnold kept the point situation close with a third place finish.

It's known that Eric Aos is capable of getting a win. He won last year, and he's won in the past. Unfortunately for Eric, mechanical issues earlier in the evening forced him to put his car on the trailer before the Main Event ever started. Likewise, Jim Cunningham, who finally had his car ready, was a scratch after the heat race. Cunningham made his first start in the class in a Lee Doty owned car last season. This was the car wheeled by Bill Spencer during the first two seasons. Pete Bowne drove that car once this year.

The Little Southern Oregon Speedway track had a race on Friday night. It's possible that the timing could have been off on this event. The track has been having a race on the second week of July for the past couple of years, but it was moved up to Fourth of July weekend for this year. It is possible that some of the teams that might have come in from the various divisions scheduled to compete had other plans such as camping and family getaways. In any case, the show went on.

One family that did come in to support the show was the Taylor family. The Taylor family has been competing in all four different classes of Flat Track Bikes, which includes the Small Bikes, 250cc, 450cc and Open Bikes. They've also left with most of the hardware for the past two events. The Small Bike win once again went to Brody Taylor, giving him three wins in a row. On this occasion, he had Jeremiah Pruitt chasing him across the finish line while younger brother Jax finished third. Jax is the youngest competitor in the bikes at seven years old.

Trevor Taylor might have thought it was business as usual when he picked up his third consecutive 250cc Bike win ahead Theo Lount. However, he was about to meet his match in the 450cc and Open Bike classes. Brenden Weller was making his first appearance on the 1/8 mile dirt oval, and these two riders had some great side-by-side laps all night, starting in the heat races. The two Main Events went in similar fashion. They started out with Trevor Taylor leading the first four laps before Weller made his way past him. Weller went on to pick up the wins, making it three different riders in the four Open Bike events to claim the victory. Could there be another new winner when the Bikes return on July 19th?

Mya Maffei could certainly be one of the potential winners. She has done a good job in her previous two starts. She happened to be in Montana for an event this past weekend, causing her to miss this race. The Quads were not represented on this occasion, but there were some Trikes. Again, Mike Burson Sr supported the show. He has been at all four events held so far and has been having fun. Last time out, he got his daughter MiKayla and son Mike Jr involved. MiKayla returned to run the Small Trike class against her father. Mike has been known to do wheelies at the end of events, but in this case, he did a wheelie at the start-finish line and stalled, giving his daughter a big head start. He wasn't quite able to overtake her as she picked up the win. However, he returned to win the Big Trike race ahead of first-time visitors Brent Hagen and Kristian Smart.

The Kart division that took center stage on this occasion was clearly the Beginners Box Stock class. Jayme DeBenedetti is the point leader and is showing no signs of slowing down. She scored a clean sweep of the two heat races and the Main Event, but the Main Event wasn't as easy as that. Caleb Ranney would probably have to be considered the most improved driver in the field. When the Main Event green flag waved, Caleb got on the gas and was not too far behind DeBenedetti as she closed in on the slower Karts. When they worked traffic, it got closer, but a yellow flag bunched up the field. DeBenedetti continued to lead and picked up the win, but Ranney stayed with her on the lead lap for another second place finish. As that little boy gets more seat time, he's gaining more confidence and having more fun.

All five of the young competitors who raced did a good job. Isaac Grimes managed to finish third as he maintains second in the standings. It was Talia Colley and Saige King completing the finishing order, and all drivers took the checkered flag.

The 250 Kart division saw the point battle broken wide open. The reason for his retirement from second with two laps to go last time out was a blown motor in the Vinny DeBenedetti Kart. DeBenedetti was unable to get another motor in time to compete. Second-ranked Jacob James was only nine points behind Trevor Grimes coming into this event, but he suffered mechanical issues early on and scratched for the evening. This opened the door for 2017 champion and current point leader Grimes to pick up his third win of the season and stretch his lead over James as Cadyn Smith took over third in the standings with his third-straight podium finish in third. It was Emma Rodgers having her best finish yet in the class in second.

At Siskiyou Golden Speedway, they had two races within a four race span. The Fourth of July Fireworks Show offered a nice racing program and a family atmosphere. With the IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Jefferson State Jalopies on the card, there was plenty of racing for the fans to enjoy.

This also happened to be the first occasion this season in which there was a double-digit turn out of local area racers in the IMCA Sport Modifieds. This meant a total of 13 competitors in the field, and one of those drivers with Merissa Henson in the Donny Bottoms owned car. Henson already had a popular win a few weeks earlier, but this occasion would be even better. She had won her heat race ahead of championship contender Colt Boswell.

Come Main Event time, Henson worked her way from the fourth row to score a rather impressive victory over Ryder Boswell. Boswell's run will be reflected in the standings as incoming point leader Ethan Killingsworth didn't finish and ended up 12th. Ryder also had a nice performance on Monday at the non point show as he finished third. Jack Waldon III hasn't been at every race this year, but the young competitor made a nice charge from 10th to a third place finish, while Medford competitor Joby Shields had his best finish yet in fourth. Colt Boswell kept his point performance going strong as he finished fifth.

This is an indication of the potential the IMCA Sport Modified division has to get a good turnout. Because Promoter Kevin Barba was looking for just a little bit more of a car count for the Monday Sprint Car show, this division was added on short notice. They were unable to secure an IMCA sanctioning for a point event, but it went on as a non point race.

Jimmy Ford had made the trip up to Oregon to be a part of the Freedom Cup event at Cottage Grove. He also competed in the final two Speedweek races at Willamette, meaning he had competed in five races in a week's span. Jimmy gave it a valiant effort in the Monday race, but he had to settle for second behind Randy Wright. This was a significant occasion for Wright, who was a heat race winner on the Fourth of July. The Main Event win was the first of Wright's career.

The IMCA Sport Modifieds weren't the only division with a busy weekend schedule. The Thursday special had a ten car field, and David Steele returned to action for his third win of the season. That win was not in doubt as he started up a front and finished there for the win. Cassidy Wilkinson certainly earned passing honors by coming from ninth to second, but then Cassidy passed the tech area and was disqualified as a result. This elevated Medford regular Kristopher Mix from third to second. Mix also won the Trophy Dash that night, making this his best effort of the season.

Encouraged by those results, he eagerly returned as part of the Sprint Car show on Monday. Unfortunately, In the heat of the battle, he ended up crashing and doing significant front-end damage to his car. This is not the first time he got into a big crash at the speedway. Prior to his 2016 season start, he totaled a race car in a practice session in Yreka, which necessitated him having to get the car he currently drives. He is working on getting the car race ready for the next Medford event.

Young charger Darek Alford ended up third on Thursday and third again on Monday as has worked his way back into title contention. We're still waiting for an official point list to be released, but word is that Zak McMurry will be the one in front. McMurry didn't have the best of luck on Thursday as he ended up eighth in the Main Event, though he did win his heat race. On Monday, however he was the one chasing Terry Alford across the line in second.

For Terry Alford, that was his first win of the season, putting him in the company of Steele, McMurry, Terry Kendrick and Wilkinson on the winner's list. For Kendrick, however, the weekend was a disaster. Mechanical issues kept him out of both Main Events, which may have ended his championship hopes at this stage. Both Mike Whitaker Top 5 efforts on Thursday and Monday as he remains very much in the hunt.

The Jefferson State Jalopies seem to be able to answer the call whenever Barba needs to fill the show a little bit more. JJ Smith and Karl Bernstein had their for vehicles at the speedway. We heard something rather interesting during the weekend regarding the duo. They do have a fifth car in production that may see the light of day this year, but the duo has indicated they have several more frames to build cars with, and they are interested in building this division up provided they have people interested in buying cars to join the class.

Michael Colson prevented JJ Smith from winning his second event as he held him off for the victory on Thursday while Karl Bernstein ended up third. Tony Parker was the latest guest driver to take the wheel and he finished last. Smith did win the Trophy Dash, while Colson was the heat race winner. Though the Jalopies don't appear on the schedule that much, you never know when you're going to see them booked at the last minute.

Everybody knew they were going to see Sprint Cars on Monday, and that led to excitement. Monday, by all accounts, turned out to be a success for the track. Racing conditions were good and there were 21 drivers from up and down the West Coast and back east. For the second time in the last four years, Mitchell Faccinto was the one taking the glory and leading the Main Event from start to finish. He was chased by Seth Bergman, while 2015 Watsonville champion Justin Sanders, Tony Gualda and past Series champion Justyn Cox completed the Top 5.

For Gualda, this wasn't a very good week, but the resilient competitor recovered from a crash at Placerville on Thursday to be back behind the wheel of a car on Saturday at Stockton. He is certainly a tough customer. Sean Becker, who has been one of the big stars at Silver Dollar Speedway in recent years, was piloting the Dan Menne car. Menne has won many races at Yreka and Medford through the years, and this is pretty much a home track race for him. Becker finished seventh behind Colby Copeland, while rising young stars Jesse Love IV and Tanner Holmes finished eighth and 10th respectively.

One of the things you'll hear from Yreka racing fans is a desire to see more Sprint Car racing. The biggest hurdle to making that happen is the cost of the purse for these race cars and the fact that the budget isn't there to book a series such as a Sprint Car Challenge Tour or the King Of The West/NARC Series. The fact that the Speedweek Series includes Yreka on their agenda is a godsend.

AThere's always the potential date for an ISCS Week Of Speed show, but the fact that the track is closed down during the fair makes that challenging. It is possible that an ISCS race could be secured in the future, and there are even a few drivers up north who have expressed an interest in competing there. As with anything, money talks.

Yreka will shut the gates for the coming weekend, but when the action resumes on July 20th, it's a special event. O'Reilly Auto Parts is sponsoring the Jerry Casson Memorial Race/Loggers Night. The Calculated Comfort Outlaw Pro Stocks will be competing along with the IMCA Sport Modifieds and Mini Stocks, which should mean one of the better attended shows in terms of number of competitors. The track will be dark for a few weeks after that before some big shows are lined up for mid to late August.

Coos Bay Speedway had hopes of hosting the second Speedweek race, but rain had other plans. In fact, rain threatened to wipe out the second event of the tour. Willamette was forced to cancel due to the rainy weather they had endured over night, but it was hastily rescheduled from Willamette to Cottage Grove, where the series will run its final two races on Friday and Saturday after a visit on Thursday to Sunset Speedway. For the record, Justin Sanders won the hastily rescheduled race.

Though Coos Bay Speedway didn't get to have a Sprint Car show, the NASCAR Whelen All American Series continued on with the America's Mattress Super Late Models back in action. The division is gearing up for a huge event on July 20th and 21st. It's the third annual Tidal Wave 50 event with the big show taking place on the 21st. Last season, that race paid $1,200 to win, but we haven't seen official purse numbers being posted anywhere so far. The Late Model battle so far has been between Preston Luckman and reigning champion Brody Montgomery. The Main Events have been divided up amongst them for the most part.

On Saturday, 2015 champion Toby McIntyre turned in one of his better performances of the season, but it wasn't quite good enough to keep Luckman from picking up his third win of the season. McIntyre did finish second ahead of Montgomery, which enabled Luckman to increase his lead in the standings just a little bit more.

Wayne Butler had been hanging close in the battle for the championship, but he failed to start the latest Main Event with mechanical problems, dropping him far back enough now that his championship hopes may have ended. He still holds a 24 point lead over two-time championship runner-up Thor Kristensen, who managed a fifth place finish behind Deven Brown.

The Street Stock and Sportsman Late Model divisions saw the return of champions to make things more challenging for the current point leaders. In the case of the Sportsman Late Model division, even the return of reigning champion Dyllan Siewell wasn't enough to stop Braden Fugate from picking up his sixth win in six starts. His lead grew just a little bit more over Mike Taylor as Taylor was unable to overtake Siewell for second.

2016 Street Stock champion Daniel Land made an appearance and swept the division for the night. Point leader Steve Dubisar was hoping to get his fifth win, but it was Land forcing him to settle for a second place finish. 2017 champion Justin Krossman finished third on this occasion.

High car count honors continue to go to the Hornets division, and "Hurricane" Hannah Robison remains the star of the field. Robison has missed a pair of races this year or she might be leading the standings instead of being 40 points back. She started back in 12th in the Main Event on this occasion after winning her heat race, but she still made a charge to the front of the pack and overtook early leader Gabrielle Boles for her fourth win. Second matched a season-best for Boles, who earlier won her heat race. She was followed by Trophy Dash winner and reigning champion Tyler Tullos.

Though he has yet to win a Main Event this year, Stephen Parker finds himself leading the standings. He protected his advantage by coming from last starting to finish fourth ahead of George Wheeler. Not a bad showing for Parker. There were 13 competitors in this race, making it the highest attended division on the roster again.
