Barraza Grabs Victory From Hibbard
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 1...Kyler Barraza won his second Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  The current point leader was stalking leader David Hibbard when traffic provided him with the opportunity to make his winning pass on lap 24.  While Barraza sped to the $1,000 victory, Hibbard brought it home to a season best second place finish as his car was running better than it has all season.

D. Hibbard and Barraza were battling for position all night.  Having worked out the motor issues that have been hurting him for the first three races, Hibbard beat Barraza to win the six lap heat race.  Barraza won the four lap Trophy Dash ahead of Hibbard, who spun on the second lap for a yellow flag.  The four lap Scramble set the first two rows of the Main Event, and Hibbard won that race ahead of Barraza.  A motor issue in the Trophy Dash left Bailey Hibbard's crew scrambling to get the car ready for the Main Event.  D. Hibbard raced into the Main Event lead at the drop of the green flag with Barraza following in second.  "Rookie Of The Year" hopeful Merissa Henson was an early third, but B. Hibbard raced by for the position on lap two.  As the lead three cars ran closely, Henson and Enrique Jaime had a good battle going early on for fourth.  However, on lap 14, Jaime slowed his pace just a bit to cool his over heating motor.  This enabled 61 year old rookie Calvin Hibbard to take over fifth.  By about lap 19, Jaime was back to his usual pace, but the leaders were approaching him to put him another lap down.  Working lap 24, Barraza used the slower car to make his move past D. Hibbard for the lead and victory.  D. Hibbard settled for second, followed by B. Hillard, Henson, C. Hibbard and Jaime.  All of the starters finished the non stop event.

The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars are back on July 8th and 22nd.  After his Trophy Dash win, Barraza indicated that he will be removing his wing to compete in Southern Oregon Speedway's big Cascade Sprint Car Challenge, presented by Herz Precision Parts, on August 26th.  That Wingless 360 Sprint Car race will pay $3,000 to win.  For further information go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Elliott Becomes Third Different Late Model Winner At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 1...Trent Elliott won the 20 lap Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  Elliott hadn't been at the track for a few years, but he led all the way to become the third different winner of the season.  Previous feature winner Dustin Knight chose to start in the last row and made an impressive charge to a second place finish.

Knight and Elliott each won six lap heat races, and incoming point leader Nathan Augustine battled reigning champion Bob Dees and Garrett Dees to win the four lap Trophy Dash.  Elliott raced into the Main Event lead at the start ahead of Augustine and B. Dees.  On lap three, Augustine spun in Turn 2 for a caution flag.  Though he restarted in the back, it was obvious that all was not well with Augustine's car.  Elliott continued to lead B. Dees on the restart as Knight was up to third.  A low move in Turn 2 of the fifth lap gained Knight second from B. Dees, but the flying Elliott was already a straightaway in front with no caution flag in sight for the rest of the race.  Elliott lapped fourth place Kristy Grout on lap 17.  Elliott brought it home to an impressive victory with Knight a strong second.  B. Dees was the final lead lap finisher as Grout beat Augustine back to the checkered flag for fourth.  Dave Foote, G. Dees and Mike Linder completed the finishing order.

Late Models return on July 22nd for their fourth event of the season.  For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Britton Snaps Minter Win Streak In OTRO Hardtops

White City, Oregon,...July 1...Jamie Britton grabbed the victory in the 20 lap OTRO Hardtop Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  This was only his third start on the dirt after finishing third in the previous Main Event.  Minter won a good battle with Bruce Wilkerson for second.

Britton became the third different four lap Trophy Dash winner of the season and added his second six lap heat race win.  This also gave him the second clean sweep effort in the group's eight appearance at the track so far as Trevor Thomason did it once last season.  Britton raced into the lead at the start ahead of Minter and Wilkerson, but Wilkerson took second from Minter on lap six. Fourth place Bill Trotter was lapped on lap 11.  As Britton sped along out front, Minter found his way past Wilkerson for second in the waning laps.  Britton collected the victory ahead of Minter, Wilkerson, Trotter and Ken Lerwell.

Goetz Gets The Job Done For Mini Stock Victory
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City,  Oregon...July 1...Steve Goetz won the 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  Goetz has been struggling with motor issues so far this year, but the 2013 champion had things dialed as he became the third different winner of the season.  There had been a streak going back to 2014 of only 5 different Main Event winners in the class.  Goetz last won in 2013, meaning there have only been eight different winners since 2013.  Previous winner and 2014 champion Gary Anderson finished second as he continues to climb the point ladder.

The night started off with reigning champion Bob Burkett beating Dillen Lausen to win the four lap Trophy Dash.  Incoming point leader David Steele out-dueled Goetz to win their six lap heat race, while young Michael Johnson won his first career heat race ahead of Kristopher Mix.  The Main Event had to be restarted as Steele spun in Turn 2, collecting rookie Hunter Magnan and Burkett.  Magnan suffered front end damage to end his race.  Goetz led the complete restart ahead of Johnson.  Mix settled into third on lap two as Johnson was pressuring Goetz for the lead.  Lausen spun from fourth for a lap five caution flag, and Burkett retired from the race with motor issues.  Goetz continued to lead Johnson and Mix on the restart, but a caution flag flew a lap later as Johnson and Mix got together on the back stretch.  Andrew Hall made contact with the two cars, and he would lose laps in the pits making repairs.  Goetz maintained his lead on the restart with Steele and Anderson now second and third.  The yellow flag flew for the final time on lap 16 for Steele and Lausen.  Steele retired from the race, and Goetz led Anderson on the restart.  Lausen was back in third.  Goetz drove a great race and earned the victory with Anderson a strong second.  Johnson passed Lausen for a career best third on lap 18 as Lausen finished fourth ahead of Steele, Mix, Hall, Burkett and Magnan.

Hedges Wins Wild Hornets Race For First Career Win
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...July 1...Tim Hedges won an exciting and controversial JOAT Labs Hornets Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  The reigning champion now fields a stable of four cars in the division, and this was his first career feature win.  Hedges led early, only to lose the lead in traffic to Jason Stoutenburgh.  When contact on the back stretch sent Stoutenburgh spinning into the infield on lap 17, new leader David Coggins was shown the black flag for his part in the incident.  T. Hedges was the leader of the race at that time.  Stoutenburgh, who recovered back in third, was scored as the leader, and T. Hedges was scored twice on lap 18.  After the leaders had taken the checkered flag, T. Hedges and Zach Nelson were still racing, and Z. Nelson made a pass in Turn 4 for the lead that essentially did not count.

Incoming point leader Stoutenburgh won both his six lap heat race and the four lap Trophy Dash, while Coggins won the other heat race.  Coggins led the opening lap of the Main Event before Hedges led Stoutenburgh around him for the Top 2 positions on lap two.  A low move in Turn 4 of the fourth lap gained Coggins second from Stoutenburgh, and Stoutenburgh got a bit sideways in Turn 2 on lap six in his attempt to regain second.  This allowed Z. Nelson to race by for third.  The close racing up front continued with Stoutenburgh making a Turn 2 pass to take second from  Coggins on lap eight.  The leaders caught a slower car on lap nine.  Stoutenburgh got underneath Hedges to grab the lead, and the slower car drifted up to get out of the way, forcing Hedges higher and allowing Coggins to take over second.  The battle between Coggins and Stoutenburgh was close as the two exchanged the lead on lap 16.  Stoutenburgh got the lead back a lap later, but contact sent him spinning into the infield off the back stretch.  Coggins received a black flag for his part in the incident as they crossed the line.  The two leaders had lapped a few cars.  Stoutenburgh was identified as the leader at that point, though T. Hedges was the real leader, just ahead of Z. Nelson.  They completed the 20th lap with T. Hedges leading Nelson, but they still raced another lap as Stoutenburgh had been identified as the leader at that moment.  Z. Nelson made a pass on T. Hedges in Turn 4 of what would actually be the 21st lap of the scheduled 20 lap race.  T. Hedges was declared the winner upon further review, followed by Z. Nelson, Stoutenburgh, Jenna Hedges, Ashton Hedges, Ryan Nelson, Brandon Wonsyld, Joby Shields, Dillon Irving and Matt Butler.

Jones, Bender Wins Night 1 Of Dwarf Car Regionals
At Coos Bay Speedway

Coos Bay, Oregon...June 30...NCDCA and SBDCA Dwarf Car star Shawn Jones won the 20 lap Pro Dwarf Car Main Event Friday night at Coos Bay Speedway.  Roughly 40 competitors showed up for the WSDCA event, which was being hosted by the Northwest Dwarf Car Association.  Jones and Northwest's Jake Van Ortwick kicked the night off with ten lap heat race wins.  The Main Event featured an intense battle down the stretch between the two heat race winners.  Jones beat Van Ortwick back to the line in a near photo finish for the hard fought victory.  NCDCA's Danny Wagner was a strong third ahead of Michael "Spanky" Grenert, Cameron Diatte, Jeff Fitch, Shane Youngman, Dennis Liebig, James Brinster and Guy Tow Jr.

Kevin Bender gave NCDCA another victory in the 20 lap Veterans Dwarf Car Main Event.  Bender and reigning Antioch Speedway champion Kevin Miraglio were ten lap heat race winners.  In the Main Event, it was a trio of NCDCA competitors fighting for victory, but Bender prevailed just ahead of Brian Quilty and Mike Reeder.  Quilty has been competing with the NCDCA group on and off for over 20 years.  Miraglio and Jack Haverty completed a California sweep of the Top 5 as Guy Tow Sr., Scott Dahlgren, Fred Hay, Dan Zuger and Buddy Olschowka rounded out the Top 10.

Washington's Mike Clark won the 15 lap Sportsman Dwarf Car Main Event and the eight lap heat race.  NCDCA's Robert Johnson, and Northwest competitors Brian Hicks, Nick Wymore and Chris Wright rounded out the field as Jim Simmons was a Main Event scratch.

Brody Montgomery rolled to his seventh 20 lap NASCAR Sportsman Late Model Main Event victory after winning the ten lap heat race.  Championship rival and two time reigning champion Wayne Butler shadowed Montgomery in second in both the heat and Main Event as Deven Brown was third in the feature.  Dyllan Siewell was in contention until falling out seven laps from the finish.

Steve Dubisar dominated the Street Stock action in winning the eight lap heat race and his fourth 20 Lap Main Event.   Dubisar grabbed the Main Event lead and steadily pulled away to an 11 second margin of victory.  Josh Bearedn was a season best second, followed by point leader Justin Krossman, previous winner Jeff Thurman and Ken Fox.

John Henry won both the 20 lap Mini Outlaw Main Event and the eight lap heat race with point leader Sam Talon and Dan Daniels following in both races.

Point leader Ryan Siewell rebounded from a DNF on Tuesday night for his seventh Hornets Main Event victory.  Second place point runner Hannah Robison and Jeremy Beard were eight lap heat race winners.  Sam Taylor gave it a good effort in the Main Event, but the flying Siewell forced him to settle for a season best second.  Tom Williams was a strong third ahead of reigning champion Jeremiah Reiber, Robison, Beard, Trace Fugate, April Warmack and Dylan Keller.  Tim Young was a Main Event scratch.

Diatte, Bender Win Dwarf Car Regionals Features
At Coos Bay Speedway

Coos Bay, Oregon...July 1...Cameron Diatte won the 30 lap Pro Dwarf Car Main Event Saturday night at Coos Bay Speedway.  This was the second night of the WSDCA Dwarf Car Regionals, hosted by the Northwest Dwarf Car Association.  Diatte is a regular with the SBDCA Dwarf Car group that races at Watsonville, CA, and he won by about a straightaway.  NWDCA's Jake Van Ortwick won a close battle with NCDCA's Danny Wagner for second as Shane Youngman and Dennis Liebig rounded out the Top 5.  Guy Tow Jr. settled for sixth ahead of Danny Altom, Camden Robustelli, Rob Gergel and John Chrisman.  Shawn Jones looked like the driver to beat after winning the ten lap Fast Dash ahead of Diatte, but he was out after the first lap of the Main Event.  Tow out-dueled Altom to win the ten lap heat race.

NCDCA's Kevin Bender dominated the Veteran Dwarf Car 20 lap Main Event.  He left little doubt that he was the driver to beat as he won the ten lap Fast Dash ahead of Mike Reeder.  Bender had about a straightaway advantage at the checkered flag.  SODCA's Fred Hay outran reigning Antioch Speedway champion Kevin Miraglio to finish second.  Guy Tow Sr. was a solid fourth ahead of Scott Dahlgen, Brian Quilty, Jack Haverty, Buddy Olschowka, Dan Zuger and Reeder.  Olschowka outran Zuger to win the ten lap heat race.

Mike Clark won the 20 lap Sportsman Dwarf Car Main Event.  Clark won by about a straightaway ahead of Brian Hicks, Dan Coutts, Chris Wright, Nick Wymore, Joe Sanders and Jim Simmons.  Sanders won his first career ten lap Fast Dash ahead of Hicks.

Brody Montgomery scored a sweep of heat, Trophy Dash and 20 lap Main Event in the Sportsman Late Model division.  It was Montgomery's eighth feature win.  Three different drivers chased Montgomery across the line during the night as championship rival Wayne Butler was second in the eight lap heat race and Steve Dubisar was second in the five lap Trophy Dash.  Montgomery won the Main Event by a straightaway.  Deven Brown won a close battle with Butler to finish second as Charlie Withers, Dubisar and Jeff Krossman rounded out the finishing order.

Steve Dubisar won the 20 lap Street Stock Main Event.  After wining the five lap Trophy Dash ahead of point leader Justin Krossman, Dubisar sped to his fifth Main Event win by nearly a straightaway.  Josh Bearedn outran Stacy Robinson for second as Krossman and Ken Fox completed the finishing order.  Krossman won a good battle with Bearedn for the eight lap heat race win.

Jason Kallam won his first 20 lap Mini Outlaw Main Event.  All night long, Kallam and point leader Sam Talon had a good battle going.  Talon held off Kallam in both the eight lap heat race and five lap Trophy Dash.  Kallam won the Main Event with Talon settling for second.  Jeremiah Reiber was a solid third as Tom Williams, Sam Taylor, John Henry and Dan Daniels rounded out the finish.

Point leader Ryan Siewell wrapped up a perfect weekend with his eighth 20 lap Hornets Main Event victory.  After beating Siewell to win his eight lap heat race and finishing second to Tom Williams in the five lap Trophy Dash, Jeremy Beard was hoping to get his first feature win.  However, Siewell was just a bit faster as he forced Beard to settle for second.  Reigning champion Jeremiah Reiber finished third, followed by Tom Williams, Sam Taylor, David Pellum, Tim Young, Patrick Nagel and Braden Fugate.  After winning her heat race ahead of Young, championship contender Hannah Robison's point effort took a hit as she DNF'ed the Main Event in tenth.

Next Saturday night is Eve of Destruction VIII, featuring American Dare Devil Mr. Dizzy and a Fireworks Show.  NASCAR Whelen All American Series Sportsman Late Models return along with Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws, Mini Stocks and Humboldt Motorsports Side By Sides.  For further information, go to www.coosbayspeedway.us.

Langenderfer Comes Back From Spin To Win
At Orland Raceway

Orland, CA...July 1...Point leader Jeremy Langenderfer rebounded from a spin to win his fourth 20 lap Pure Stock Main Event Saturday night at Orland Raceway.  The double point event was part of Girl Scout Night at the races.  Langenderfer set the early pace ahead of Cody Bundy.  Langenderfer spun on lap seven, giving the lead to Bundy.  However, Keith Ross took the lead from Bundy on the restart.  Bundy came back to grab the lead from Ross on lap ten as Langenderfer was back up to third.  Langenderfer was second on lap 13, and Bundy's brush with the front wall enabled Langenderfer to regain  the lead.  Contact saw Bundy spin from second on lap 18 as Ross's run up front ended.  Langenderfer went on to win the eventful race ahead of Brad Ray, Chris Barnett, Shannon Collins and Amanda Koop.

Donovan Chilton snapped point leader Tom Davis' Mini Stock Main Event win streak at three with his impressive 20 lap victory.  Dustin Hills led the opening lap before Davis went by on the backstretch to lead the second lap.  Chilton was third, and he made an outside pass on the back stretch of the fourth lap to gain second from Hills.  Seth Libbee spun exiting Turn 4 for a lap six caution flag.  Chilton raced by Davis for the lead on the restart as championship contender Sean Perry settled into third.  The lead three cars ran closely for several laps, but Perry slowed and pitted in the infield on lap 18.  Chilton brought it home to victory ahead of Davis, Hills, reigning champion John Kirkpatrick and Perry.

Point leader Keith Ross had luck on his side in winning the 20 lap Mini Truck Main Event.  "Rollin" Olin Crain raced into the lead at the start of the race ahead of 2013 champion Ross Vige.  Ross made an outside pass in Turn 2 of the second lap to take second from Vige, and reigning champion Dan Webster made a similar move to take over third on lap three.  A crash in Turn 2 forced a lap 16 caution flag, which proved to be Crain's undoing.  Ross raced into the lead on the restart, but Crain was working hard on the outside groove in his effort to regain the lead.  Crain spun exiting the final turn as Ross went on to victory.  Webster finished second ahead of Vige, Crain and William Fogle.

Josh Jacobo went flag to flag in winning the four car, 20 lap Wingless Gas Sprint Main Event.  On July 15th, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, Mini Trucks, Micro Sprints and Wingless Gas Sprints are all back in action again.  Gates open at 5:00 PM with the first race at 7:00 PM.  General Admission is $8.00, Juniors (7-12) and Seniors are $5.00 and children 6 and under are free.  For further information, go to www.orlandraceway.org.

Becker Battles Majdic For Silver Dollar Speedway Win

Chico, CA...June 30...Reigning 410 Sprint Car champion Sean Becker returned to Chico Silver Dollar Speedway and won the 25 lap Main Event Friday night.  Becker drives the Dan Menne owned car, and he started his night off with an eight lap heat race win.  Fellow heat race winner Chase Majdic won the other heat race.  The 2016-17 Red Bluff 500 Open Kart champion Majdic sprinted out to the early Main Event lead ahead of reigning Placerville champion Mason Moore and current point leader and fast timer (11.524) Andy Forsberg.  A lap three caution flag flew for Brent Bjork in Turn 4.  Becker settled into third behind Majdic and Moore on the restart.  Becker took second from Moore on lap eight, just before the final caution flag waved for Kalib Henry in Turn 1.  Madjic led Becker on the restart as Forsberg and Michael Ing dropped Moore back to fifth.  Becker began pressuring Majdic for the lead before racing by on lap 19.  Once in front, Becker brought it home to a well earned victory.  Forsberg took second from Majdic at the white flag and held him off to finish there.  Ing was a solid fourth, followed by Justyn Cox, Moore, Brad Bumgarner, Henry, Brain Boswell and Bjork.

Point leader Phil Marino won the 20 lap Street Stock Main Event.  After settling for second to Richard Workman in the eight lap heat race, Marino raced into the Main Event lead from the start.  Brent Lawrence was an early second, followed closely by Cory Hall.  A lap eight caution flag flew for Fritz Zanker in Turn 4.  Lawrence headed pitside, and Marino led Hall and Workman on the restart.  Hall briefly took the lead from Marino on lap ten, only to watch Marino race by a lap later.  Last row starter Gary Newman was up to fourth, and a lap 16 caution flag flew for Mike Slingtom in Turn 4.  Newman grabbed third on the restart as Marino continued to lead Hall.  Marino led the remaining laps to score the victory ahead of Hall, Newman, Danny Dozier, Workman, Slingtom, Zanker and Lawrence.

Craig Swim stayed in the Wingless Spec Sprint championship hunt with his first 20 lap Main Event victory.  After an eight lap heat race win for point leader Tony Richards ahead of Swim, Swim raced into the Main Event lead at the start.  Richards settled into second ahead of Gary Paulson and Casey McClain.  A winner on the Hunt Wingless Spec Sprint Tour this year, McClain slipped past Paulson for third on lap four.  Richards closed in a bit on Swim down the stretch in the non stop event.  However, Swim prevailed at the checkered flag as Richards settled for second and McClain was third.  Jeremy Wilson made a late pass on Paulson to finish fourth as Josh Tucker and Barry Pries Jr. completed the finishing order.

IMCA Sport Modified point leader Phillip Shelby won his third 20 lap Main Event.  Yreka point leader Justin Foux darted out to the early Main Event lead ahead of Jeremy Phillips and Shelby.  Shelby slipped past Phillips for second on lap three and took up pursuit of Foux in the non stop event.  Foux and Shelby began a thrilling side by side battle for the lead on lap eight, and Shelby finally grabbed the lead on lap 14.  Phillips raced by Foux for second on lap 15.  Shelby sped home to the impressive victory.  Phillips lost his second place finish as he didn't report to tech after the races, giving the position to Foux, followed by State point leader Shane DeVolder, heat race winner Tyler Rodgers, Sean Halterman, Jeff Fear and Raymond Benkowski.

Jason Armstrong captured his third ten lap California Hardtop Main Event victory.  The California Hardtops brought six old time race cars, but Dave Reed crashed early in preliminaries to end his evening.  The eight lap heat race was won impressively by Ron Ruiz ahead of Armstrong.  Armstrong grabbed the lead in the Main Event and steadily pulled away.  The man with the perfect attendance record this year, "The Rocket Man" Ken Clifford, retired before the checkered flag with steering issues.  Son Jason Clifford was battling over heating issues.  There were no issues for Armstrong until the final lap.  With a big lead over Ruiz and Dan Whitney, Armstrong spun in the final turn.  He had the presence of mind to gather it back up and still finish first, followed by a season best second for Ruiz, Whitney, J. Clifford and K. Clifford.
