David Hibbard Scores Third Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Car Feature Win At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...June 30...David Hibbard raced to his third 25 lap Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Car feature victory Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. The point leader got a strong challenge early on from the top rookie in the field, Blaine Cory, who finished second. Hibbard's win came aboard his Dave's Carpet And Vinyl Liquidators entry.

The Sprint Car format called for two six lap heats for the 11 competitors with the Top 2 going into the Scramble to determine the first two rows in the Main Event. Cory surprised Hibbard by outrunning him to win their heat race. Merissa Henson outran rookie Theron Smith to win her first six lap heat race. Cory continued his momentum by winning the four lap Scramble to grab the pole position for the feature race.

Cory raced into the lead at the drop of the green flag with David Hibbard and Theron Smith in pursuit. A lap one caution flag waved when Todd Whipple spun. Cory continued to lead Hibbard, and Jeffrey Hudson slipped underneath Smith for the third position in Turn 2 of the third lap. Cory and Hibbard had pulled away from the field just a bit in their battle for the lead. Calvin Hibbard spun in Turn 2 for a lap four caution flag. On the restart, Smith spun from his Top 5 position in Turn 2. The next restart attempt saw Cory continue to lead Hibbard and Hudson. Again, Cory and David Hibbard pulled away from the pack just a little bit, and Hibbard made a backstretch pass on Cory to take the lead on lap ten. Meanwhile, Hudson had his hands full as Enrique Jaime and Bailey Hibbard moved up to battle him for the third position. The final caution flag waved on lap 15. David Hibbard continued to lead Cory on the restart. As Hibbard began to pull away and Cory ran a solid second, Hudson continued to battle Bailey Hibbard and Jaime for third. Jaime made a high pass in Turn 4 of the 17th lap to take over fourth and begin to look for a way around Hudson. As David Hibbard sped to his victory and Cory took second, Jaime attempted to get by Hudson on the final lap. It was a close race to the checkered flag with Hudson grabbing the third place finish. Jaime settled for fourth, followed by Bailey Hibbard, Charlie Thompson, Aaron Miller, Theron Smith, Henson and Whipple.

The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars return for their fifth event of the season this Saturday night along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars and Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Coffell Wins Late Model Feature
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...June 30...Darren Coffell made his first appearance at Southern Oregon Speedway in several years and left with a 20 lap Late Model Main Event victory Saturday night. Coffell had the lead from the start and set a rapid pace in becoming the fourth different feature winner of the season.

Coffell won his six lap heat race, and Bob Dees gained the victory in his heat when David Newquist slowed on the last lap thinking he had taken the checkered flag. Coffell charged into the lead at the start, followed by John Dees and Bob Dees. Within a few laps, Coffell was already a straightaway ahead, and the first of two caution flags fell on lap seven when Jeff Olschowka spun in Turn 2. A tangle between Olschowka and Eric Massey botched the first restart attempt. Coffell continued to lead John Dees and Bob Dees on the restart as point leader Nathan Augustine moved past Newquist for fourth. Coffell again put distance between himself and second place and was into slower traffic by lap 13. Coffell lapped fifth place Newquist on the white flag lap and won by a half lap, followed by John Dees, Bob Dees and final lead lap finisher Augustine. Miles Deubert took a checkered flag in sixth, followed by Olschowka, Dave Foote, Garrett Dees and Massey.

The Late Models return on July 14th for Kids Night. The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars will also be competing, along with the Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stocks and JOAT Labs Hornets. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Morton Wins Second Straight Dwarf Car Feature
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...June 30...Kalvin Morton strengthened his bid to win the Southern Oregon Dwarf Car championship by scoring his second straight 20 lap Main Event victory Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Morton took the lead from Cody Peters at the halfway point of the race and pulled away. Even a late caution flag wouldn't stop him as he won with Fred Hay a season high  second at the checkered flag.

The Dwarf Cars produced a 20 car field, and six lap heat race wins went to Ryan Smith, Chad Cardoza and Brock Peters. Peters also won the six lap A Dash with Morton the eight lap B Dash winner.

The race was restarted after Chad Cardoza had an off track excursion in Turn 4. Brock Peters set the early pace ahead of Fred Hay and Cody Peters. A tangle between Andrew Hall and Chad Lorenz in Turn 2 forced a lap one caution flag. Cody Peters charged into second behind his father Brock as Camden Robustelli dropped Hay back to fourth with a Turn 4 pass. A tangle on the backstretch involving Smith, Cardoza and Steve Walker brought out a lap three caution flag. Brock Peters continued to lead Cody Peters on the restart and Morton charged into third. It became a three-car battle up front with Cody racing past Brock to grab the lead on lap five. Morton put the moves on Brock Peters for second on lap nine as they were working slower traffic, and a low pass in Turn 4 of the 10th lap put Morton into the lead. Morton began to pull away from Cody Peters, and Robustelli made an inside pass on Brock Peters for third on lap 12. While working slower traffic on the backstretch, Robustelli, Brock Peters and Brett James crashed, bringing out a caution flag with 4 laps to go. This wiped out a straightaway advantage for Morton, but he maintained his lead ahead of Cody Peters and Hay on the restart. Hay took second from Cody Peters on lap 19 with Cardoza getting by for third on the final lap. Morton brought it home to an impressive victory ahead of Hay, Cardoza, Cody Peters, Smith, Walker, Robustelli, Kaycee Sheeler, Jesse Lorenz and Joe Sanders.

The Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars return this Saturday night as part of a lineup that will include the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Steele Unstoppable In Bobbio's Pizza Mini Stock Feature
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...June 30...Taking the lead from the start, David Steele led all 20 laps to win the Mini Stock Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Steele is the point leader, and this was his fourth feature win in five races.

Steele and fellow six lap heat race winner Hunter Magnan had the front row for the Main Event, and Steele charged into lead at the start ahead of 2014 champion Gary Anderson and Magnan. An inside pass on the back stretch of the third lap gained Magnan second from Anderson. 2015 champion David Marble was making his first Mini Stock appearance since winning the championship, and he settled into fourth ahead of 2013 champion Steve Goetz. Anderson slipped past Magnan for second on lap seven, and Marble made an inside pass in Turn 2 of the ninth lap to take over third. At that point, Steele held a commanding lead and was lapping slower traffic. A lap 15 caution flag flew for Magnan and saved Trophy Dash winner Goetz from going a lap down. Steele continued to lead Anderson and Marble on the restart. Steele led the last five laps and won by a straightaway ahead of Anderson, Marble and final lead lap finisher Goetz. Magnan settled for fifth, followed by Aaron Jorgensen, Ashtin Hedges and Kristopher Mix.

Ashtin Hedges Is First Two Time JOAT Labs Hornets Winner At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...June 30...Taking the lead from Bree Tritchler midway through the race, Ashtin Hedges became the first two-time JOAT Labs Hornets Main Event winner of the Season Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. The win also puts Hedges in the thick of the championship battle as incoming point leader Brandon Wonsyld missed the race due to another engagement.

The Hornets ran a regular four lap Trophy Dash and a makeup Trophy Dash from the previous week. Ashtin Hedges won the regularly scheduled Dash and Tritcher won the makeup Dash. Derrel Nelson Jr and Tritchler picked up six lap heat race wins.

The Main Event had to be restarted when Dylan Irving and Zach Nelson tangled on the backstretch, ending the race for Irving. Tritchler charged into the lead ahead of Derrel Nelson Jr and Ashtin Hedges. The caution flag flew on lap four for John Ferreira, and Tritchler continued to lead Nelson and Hedges on the restart. A high pass in Turn 1 of the sixth lap gamed Nelson the lead, but Tritchler slipped underneath Nelson in Turn 2 a lap later to regain first. Hedges moved by Nelson for second with an inside pass on the backstretch on lap nine, and Chris Boynton made a low pass in Turn 4 to get by Nelson for third. Ashtin Hedges wasted little time as he made an inside pass in Turn 4 of the tenth lap to grab the lead from Tritchler. A lap 11 caution flag flew when Dylan Sauer and Jason Stoutenburgh tangled. Ashtin Hedges led Tritchler and Boynton on the restart, and Hedges quickly built up a straightaway advantage that he held when race was red flagged on the last lap for a fire under the hood of the Stoutenburgh car. Ashtin Hedges was the winner, followed by Tritchler, Boynton, Tim Hedges, Derrel Nelson Jr, Jenna Hedges, Stoutenburgh, Zach Nelson, Sauer and Ferreira.

Minter Wins OTRO Hardtop Feature
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...June 30...Taking the lead from Dean Cast early in the event, Mark Minter went on to win the 20 lap OTRO Hardtop Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. He becomes the third different winner in three visits to the speedway this year.

There was a little bit too much excitement in the four lap Trophy Dash. Jay Smith was going for his third straight Dash win, but he lost control of his truck on the backstretch at the same time that Dusty Trotter got out of shape, resulting in a crash that ended the night for Trotter and handed the win to Justin Krossman. In Heat race action, Minter won a photo finish victory over Cast to win the six lapper.

Cast set the early pace in the Main Event ahead of Minter and Smith. A high pass in Turn 4 of the fourth lap put Minter into the lead. Throughout the first half of the race, Cast kept it close with Minter. Smith was leading a close battle for third with Bill Trotter until Trotter made an inside pass on the frontstretch of the 15th lap to gain the position. Minter pulled away just a bit down the stretch and brought it home to a satisfying victory, followed by Cast, Bill Trotter, Smith, Krossman and Chris Mehrer.

The OTRO Hardtops return on July 21st along with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Southern Oregon Dwarf Cars and the Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Montgomery, Lenz, Land Win Coos Bay Speedway Features

Coos Bay, Oregon...June 30...Point leader Brody Montgomery returned to the Winner's Circle with his fifth victory in the 30 lap NASCAR Super Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Coos Bay Speedway. Montgomery set a good pace out front in picking up the win by a straightaway ahead of Tom Elam. Elam had his hands full outrunning 2015 champion Toby McIntyre in a close finish for second. Richard Wallace was a lead lap fourth as Thor Kristensen, Chris Ray and Wayne Butler completed the finishing order. Montgomery also won the five lap Trophy Dash, but McIntyre held him off in their eight lap heat race to prevent a sweep. Elam won the other heat race.

Dr. Scott Lenz paid the speedway a visit and walked away with the 25 lap Sportsman Late Model Main Event win. Lenz is the current Outlaw Pro Stock Association point leader, and this was a tune up for when the group pays Coos Bay Speedway a visit for a special shootout race in August. Lenz won by a straightaway in front of two time champion Wayne Butler as point leader Dyllan Siewell was the final lead lap finisher. Tom Williams and Stacey Robinson completed the finishing order. Lenz outran Butler to win the eight lap heat race, but Butler beat him back to the line in the 5 lap Trophy Dash.

2016 Street Stock champion Daniel Land returned and picked up his second 25 lap Main Event win of the season. Point leader Ken Fox was on a quest for his fifth win, but he lost a photo finish to Land at the checkered flag. David Smith was a solid third, followed by Jeff Thurman and Steve Dubisar. Dubisar picked up the five lap Trophy Dash win, while Land grabbed the eight lap heat race victory.

Jason Kellam won his second 25 lap Mini Outlaw Main Event. All night long, Kellam was battling runaway point leader Sam Talon for wins. Talon just managed to beat Kellam back to the line for the five lap Trophy Dash win, but Kellam prevailed in the eight lap heat race. It was Kellam winning a close battle with Talon for the feature victory as Tom Siewell and John Henry also got lead lap finishes in third and fourth, respectively. Gene Gattenby finished fifth.

Point leader Tyler Tullos notched his third 25 lap Hornet Main Event win of the season. Hannah Robison gave it a good run before settling for a close second. April Warmack was a solid third, followed by David Pellum, Braden Fugate, Chuck Peck, Jeremy Mayfield, John Reiss, Kris Parker and Jamie Daniels. Robison and Warmack each won eight lap heat races, while Tullos won the five lap Trophy Dash.

Griff Smith picked up another 15 lap Jr Stinger Main Event win. This class is basically a Hornets division for kids 11 to 14 years old. Alex Butler finished second with Sebastian Freedle settling for third. Smith also won the eight lap heat race, but Butler scored the win in the five lap Trophy Dash.

Coming up next Saturday night is Eve of Destruction IX. The show will include The American Daredevil Mr Dizzy and a big Fireworks Display to end the night. Featured divisions include the NASCAR Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Hornets and Jr Stingers. For further information, go to www.coosbayspeedway.us.

Forsberg Wins Wild One At Silver Dollar Speedway

Chico, CA...June 29...Reigning champion Andy Forsberg scored the victory in the 25 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. Forsberg had the lead, lost it to Tanner Carrick and gained it back in an unlikely and wild last lap finish.

Forsberg sprang into the lead at the start, followed by Kalib Henry and Carrick. Carrick slipped past Henry for second on lap two, and a lap five caution flag slowed the pace. Forsberg continued to lead Carrick and Henry on this and a lap eight restart. Forsberg was leading the way until a lap 16 pass put Carrick in front. Tanner Thorson settled into third on lap 18. Carrick was leading the way with Forsberg still close behind in second when a final caution flag waved on lap 23. Carrick led the restart lap, but all hell broke loose on the final lap. Contact between Forsberg and Carrick sent Carrick flipping. Forsberg won a drag race back to the line for the victory ahead of Thomson and Michael "Buddy" Kofoid. Mason Moore finished fourth, followed by Jamie Cobby, Korey Lovell, Colby Wiesz, Kenny Allen, Chelsea Blevins and Henry.

Thorson set the fastest lap in qualifying with an 11.860 effort, beating Moore's 11.949 and the 11.953 of Shawn Conde. The 18 car field ran three eight lap heat races. Carrick outran Thorson to win the first one, while Cobby beat Moore to the checkered flag in the second one. The third heat went to Conde ahead of Blevins.

Brian Cooper picked up another win in the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. Reigning Street Stock champion Phil Marino set the early pace with Cooper slipping into second on lap two. Cooper and point leader Andrew Peckham exchanged second, but Cooper settled the matter by regaining the position on a lap five restart. Cooper finally raced into the lead just prior to a lap 15 caution flag. Cooper led reigning champion Philip Shelby on the restart as Marino retired late. Cooper went on to a satisfying victory. Peckham made a last lap pass on Shelby to take the second place position. Tyler Rogers was a close fourth, followed by Damian Merritt, Jake Van Tol, Jimmy Ford, Mike Ficklin, Hunter Merritt and Mike Merritt. There were two heat races, won by Mike Merritt ahead of Marino and Peckham in front of Shelby.

Point leader Corey Hall led all the way to win his third 20 lap Street Stock Main Event of the season. Brent Lawrence was a race long second and kept it reasonably close at the front of the pack. Clinton Earl finished about half a lap back in third, followed by Richard Workman and final lead lap finisher Gary Newman. Fritz Zanker, Leif Berglund, Phil Marino and Matt Micheli completed the finishing order. Earl outran Hall to win the 8 lap heat race.

Ron LaPlant led all 20 laps to win the Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event. Casey McClain kept it close all race long in second. Heat race winner Terry Schank Jr was the one making the passes as he ran fifth on the opening lap and took fourth from Braden Enos on lap three. Schank finally got past point leader Tony Richards for third on lap ten and reeled in the lead two cars to finish a close third. Richards settled for fourth, followed by Enos, Brent Youngman and Kelly Hicks. Schank won the eight lap heat race ahead of Enos.

The track returns to action with a special Wednesday, July 4th, Fireworks Display. The competing divisions include the Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Street Stocks, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. For further information, go to www.silverdollarspeedway.com.
