Bischoff Battles Wauge For IMCA Modified Win
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 6...Making an impressive charge from ninth starting, Monte Bischoff kicked off the 2017 season in  style with an impressive 25 lap IMCA Modified Main Event victory Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  Once Bischoff gained the lead, he had to hold off the constant threat of seven time reigning champion Mark Wauge to earn the victory.

James Anderson and Jeremy Ohlde had the front row for the Main Event.  Wauge started outside second row, while Bischoff started on the fifth row inside.  Ohlde raced into the lead at the drop of Tom Hood's green flag.  Scott Crumm was an early second ahead of Jesse Bailey.  After a lap two yellow flag for Tim Bailey, Ohlde continued to set the pace.  J. Bailey slipped into second, and Bischoff made an inside pass on the front stretch to take third from Crumm on lap four.  Two laps later, Bischoff made a big move on the inside and grabbed the lead.  J. Bailey was second as Wauge made a low pass in Turn 4 to take third from Crumm.  The lead trio of Bischoff, J. Bailey and Wauge ran closely at the head of the pack with Albert Gill in a battle with Duane Orsburn, James Welshonse and Ohlde for fourth.  A low pass in Turn 2 of the 13th lap gained Wauge second from J. Bailey.  Wauge had his car hooked up on the bottom, but that was where Bischoff was running.  Wauge kept looking, but Bischoff came off the corners just a bit stronger.  This went on for the final 12 laps, but Bischoff held on for an impressive victory.  Wauge settled for second with J. Bailey a strong third.  Welshonse made an inside move around Gill in Turn 2 for fourth on lap 20.  Welshonse took a checkered flag in fourth, followed by Gill, T. Bailey, Orsburn, Crumm, Ohlde and James Anderson.

Welshonse put on an impressive driving display in winning his six lap heat race ahead of Ray Kniffen Jr.  Kniffen was out early in the Main Event.  Bischoff won the other heat race ahead of J. Bailey.  IMCA Modifieds are back this Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway and will return on June 3rd as part of the Roger Haudenshild Tribute Race.  For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Braaten Opens Northern Sport Modified Season With Victory At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 6...Taking the lead from Willie McFall on a lap seven restart, two time champion Jorddon Braaten went on to score the victory in the 25 lap IMCA Northern Sport Modified Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  It was the 25th career win for Braaten at the track.  Reigning champion Mike Medel's charge to the front fell just short as the reigning track champion finished second.

Hot laps proved to be a tough time for the IMCA Sport Modified drivers.  Both Medel and Tony Bartell had to make repairs to get ready for the Main Event, and Rich McCoy was a feature scratch.  A.J. Parker paced the opening lap of the Main Event before being passed by Willie McFall.  Mike Medel and Jorddon Braaten followed him into second and third.  While working slower traffic, Medel spun for a lap six caution flag.  Braaten raced past McFall for the lead on the restart.  Parker held third until being passed by Tony Bartell on lap 10.  A lap later, Medel made a Turn 4 pass to claim third.  McFall's strong run in third came to an end when he lost power and stalled for a lap 21 caution flag.  Braaten continued to lead the restart, while Medel tried to gather the momentum for a pass on the inside.  However, Braaten was not going to be denied as he took the checkered flag ahead of Medel, Bartell and Parker.

Braaten won the six lap heat race ahead of McFall.  The IMCA Sport Modifieds return this Saturday night, and they are also scheduled for the Roger Haudenshild Tribute on June 3rd.  For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Shields Kicks Off JOAT Labs Hornets Season With
Main Event Victory At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 6...Taking the lead from Derrel Nelson Jr. on the seventh lap, Joby Shields went on to score the victory in the 20 lap JOAT Labs Hornets Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  A track record ten Hornets showed up to compete with more new cars still in production to debut during the season.

The 10 cars were split into two six lap heat races with wins going to David Coggins and Jason Stoutenburgh.  Christian Listro broke while leading his heat race to leave nine Main Event starters.  Ashland High School had two cars in the field with Erik Oline and Ethan Doty on the front row.  However, it was Derrel Nelson Jr. setting the pace at the start.  Joby Shields was an early second ahead of reigning champion Tim Hedges.  A high move in Turn 3 of the seventh lap put Shields into the lead.  Stoutenburgh spun from fourth in Turn 4 for a lap eight caution flag.  Shields continued to lead Nelson on the restart, while Stoutenburgh made a pass on T. Hedges at the line for third.  The lead trio remained the same through a caution flag for derbies, but Stoutenburgh passed Nelson for second on lap 13.  Shields set a good pace and won by half a straightaway with Stoutenburgh second.  Nelson was a solid third ahead of T. Hedges, Doty, Jenna Hedges, Ashston Hedges, Coggins and Oline.

Luck On Steele's Side In Mini Stock Feature Win
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 6...David Steele is as fast as they come in Mini Stocks, but he had a bit of luck on his side as he won the 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  Marissa Luckman had a front row start and had built a straightaway advantage over second place when she lost control of her car and spun in Turn 1 for a yellow  flag on lap 10.  Steele gained the lead at that point and led the rest of the way as Luckman charged back to a second place finish.

The 11 car field was divided into two six lap heat races, and Dillen Lausen impressed by winning his race ahead of Kristopher Mix.  David Steele passed second place finisher Andrew Hall midway through his race to score the victory.  Luckman and rookie Hunter Magnan shared the front row for the Main Event as Steele started back in tenth.  Luckamn charged into the lead at the green flag ahead of 2014 champion Gary Anderson.  Hall made a low move in Turn 4 of the second lap to take second.  Steele was third by lap four, and that became second a lap later as Hall fell off the pace and coasted into the infield off the backstretch.  By then, Luckman led Steele by a straightaway as Patrick stringer-Stine was third.  Stringer-Stine, Mix, Anderson, Michael Johnson, Lausen and 2013 champion Steve Goetz all ran close in the battle for third.  Anderson regained third on lap seven, but Mix made a low pass in Turn 4 to take the spot on lap nine.  Luckman led the tenth lap and got out of shape heading into Turn 1.  Suddenly, she spun, putting Steele into the lead at the yellow flag.  Steele led Mix and Anderson on the restart.  Stringer-Stine made an inside pass on the front stretch for third on lap 12 with Lausen and Johnson making this a close three-car battle.  Johnson gained third on lap 14.  Johnson made an outside pass on Mix in Turn 4 on lap 18 for second, but he spun moments later with a flat tire.  Steele led Mix and Lausen on the restart.  Luckman got around Lausen for third on the last lap and pulled alongside Mix as they raced to the checkered flag.  As Steele brought it home to victory, Luckman beat Mix back to the line by inches for second.  Stringer-Stine was a strong fourth, followed by Lausen, Anderson, Goetz, Hanson, Johnson and Magnan.

Defending Champion Doty Wins Valley Stor-All
Late Model Lites Feature At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 6...Lee Doty led most of the way to score the victory in the 20 lap Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  Doty is the reigning division champion and won five Main Events last season.

Attrition took a heavy toll on the field.  Randy Hansen, Mike Cloud and Dan Prewitt all scratched before the six lap heat races, which were won by Lee Doty and rookie Bob Burkett.  Dustin Aos had mechanical issues after running his heat race to leave just four starters for the Main Event.  Charlie Eaton led two laps before being passed by Doty.  Eaton spun from second on lap three, handing that position to Burkett.  The flying Doty lapped Bill Spencer on lap 17.  Doty had a straightaway lead by the checkered flag.  Burkett finished second ahead of Eaton and Spencer.

Augustine Out-duels Knight For Late Model Win
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 6...Making his winning move around Dustin Knight as the two worked slower traffic, Nathan Augustine won the 20 lap Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway.  Augustine is the 2016 Coos Bay champion, and he won in his only Southern Oregon Speedway appearance last season.

With a few teams still not ready, four competitors showed up for this race.  Dustin Knight won the six lap heat race ahead of Nathan Augustine.  Kristy Grout led just one lap of the feature before an outside move on the back stretch on lap two gained Knight the lead.  The yellow flag flew after two laps for Grout.  Knight led Augustine on the restart as Dave Foot and Grout battled just as fiercely for third.  The lead duo set a rapid pace and soon caught the third place contenders.  Augustine used it to make his winning pass on lap 12.  Augustine went on to score the victory, just ahead of Knight.  Grout and Foot completed the finishing order.

Hudson Wins Billy Geyer Memorial Race
At Siskiyou Speedway

Yreka, CA...May 6...The Outlaw Pro Stock Association brought a good field of race cars for the Third Annual Billy Geyer Memorial Saturday night at Siskiyou Motor Speedway.  It was 2015 champion Jeffrey Hudson scoring the biggest win of his career after an impressive drive.  Joining him in the winner's circle were Justin Foux (IMCA Sport Modifieds) and Terry Kendrick (McDonald's Mini Stocks).

With some support from the Nevada Pro Stock group, 19 competitors started the Pro Stock Main Event.  Billy's 14 year old son Brandon Geyer drove the pace car, which was his father's last Pro Stock.  The race was formatted to be run in two 25 lap segments, and the first 25 laps paid $750 to the leader.  2015 Yreka IMCA Modified champion Nick Trenchard won that race as Zach Fettinger and last week's winner Scott Lenz were second and third.  The first segment ended with a bad crash off the back stretch.  Rocky Nash's throttle stuck and he drove off the the edge of the track in Turn 3.  He was transported to the hospital with back injuries.

The finish was inverted for the start of the second 25 lap segment.  After a pair of second place finishes this year, teen leadfoot Jeffrey Hudson charged into the lead and held off Lenz and Trenchard for the big $1750 win.  Fettinger and Scott Flowers also went the full 50 lap distance to make up the Top 5, while Rick Lukens, Johnny Cobb, James Flowers, John Bowers and Jeff Haudenshild finished in order to complete the Top 10.  Lenz set the fast time of 14.471.  Fettinger won the four lap Trophy Dash, while Trenchard, Lenz and Shawn Natenstedt were the eight lap heat winners.  Natenstedt won the special ten lap 50/50 race ahead of Trenchard and James Gonzalez.  The OPSA thanks John Bowers Construction, Aaron Amuchasteui Constriction and Lucus Oil for sponsoring the bigger paying event.

Justin Foux won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event.  Foux becomes the third different winner this year, and he won a near photo finish back to the line ahead of Colton Cheffey for the thrilling victory.  Gavin Gonzales had his best finish yet in third, followed by Chris Jorgensen, Doug Franklin, Randy Wright, Mike Colson, Cory Biggs and D.J. Bottoms.  Cheffey was fast all night, and he held off Franklin to win the four lap Trophy Dash.  Ryder Boswell beat Cheffey in a close eight lap heat race battle, but Bowsell was a feature scratch.  Bottoms outran Franklin to win his heat race, but Bottoms was eliminated early in the Main Event.

Terry Kendrick won his first 20 lap McDonald's Mini Stock Main Event of the season.  Kendrick drove his fast truck to a straightaway advantage over Dennis Jorgensen by the time the checkered flag flew.  "Magic" Mike Whitaker rebounded from back to back rough nights with a third place finish ahead of Aaron Jorgensen, Ethan Killingsworth, Jeremy Sites, Mike Frost and Marilyn Yawnick, all on the lead lap.  Killingsworth won both his eight lap heat race and the four lap Trophy Dash ahead of Whitaker, while Kendrick won his heat in front of D. Jorgensen.

After a week off, racing resumes on May 20th with Outlaw Pro Stocks, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and IMCA Modifieds all on the schedule.  For further information, go to www.siskiyoumotorspeedway.com.

Explosive Action At Coos Bay Speedway

Coos Bay, Oregon...May 6...The fans of Coos Bay Speedway were treated to an exciting show Saturday night, highlighted by great racing and a special showing of Mr. Dizzy's Human Car Explosion.  Pepsi Night also offered twin Main Events for the NASCAR Whelen Racing Series Super Late Models, Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws and Hornets as well as the Humboldt Motorsports Side By Side UTV's.  The double Main Event format surely effected the point battles in all divisions.

Point leader Mike George and 2015 champion Toby McIntyre won the two 20 lap Super Late Model Main Events.  The first race wasn't even close as George lapped the field.  Chris Ray had a straightaway on Loren McIntyre for second as T. McIntyre was fourth.  The next feature saw T. McIntyre return to his winning form, beating George by nearly half a lap.  L. McIntyre was a lap down in third as Ray was fourth.  The six lap heat race saw George get the win with T. McIntyre not far behind in second.

The competition was a bit closer in the Sportsman Late Model division as Dyllan Siewell and two time reigning champion Wayne Butler won the 20 lap features.  The first feature saw Siewell assert himself back into the picture by winning by a half-lap ahead of Jeff Krossman.  It was the best finish of the season for Krossman as Butler, Charlie Withers and incoming point leader Brody Montgomery rounded out the Top 5.  Montgomery was seeking to get back on the winning path in the next 20 lapper, but he lost a close battle.  Butler finished just ahead of Montgomery.  Not far behind the lead duo was Siewell as Withers and Krossman were fourth and fifth.  Butler won the six lap heat race ahead of Krossman.

Steve Dubisar returned to Coos Bay for the first time in about a year and won both 15 lap features and the six lap heat race.  Dubisar won the first Main Event by nearly half a lap over point leader Justin Krosssman.  Jeff Thurman was a lead lap third as Daniel Land and Ken Fox followed in fourth and fifth.  Reigning champion Land's night ended in mechanical woes in the first feature.  Dubisar again beat the field by about half a lap in the second feature with Thurman second and Krossman about to go down a lap in third.  Fox was fourth.  Dubisar held off the pickup truck of Land to win the heat race.

Rob Lauver won the six lap heat race and the first 20 lap Mini Outlaw Main Event, while Ken Fox won the second feature.  Lauver beat 2015 champion Sam Talon in the heat and wasn't too far ahead of him in his feature victory.  Talon held off Fox for second.  Carl Johnson was fourth, followed by reigning champion Ryder Johnson, Jason Berrier and Dan Daniels.  Fox wasn't too far ahead of Lauver's VW Beetle when the checkered flag flew on the second Main Event.  R. Johnson and Talon were also on the lead lap, while Berrier finished fifth, followed by Daniels and C. Johnson.

Ryan Siewell's championship hopes increased with his two 20 lap Hornet Main Event wins.  Reigning champion Jeremiah Reiber's night ended after a DNF in the first feature, and Siewell made the most of it with his win in the first main, followed closely by "Hurricane" Hannah Robison.  Jeremy Beard finished third, followed by Robert Vandre, April Warmack, Tom Williams, Tim Young, Phillip Sullivan, Samuel Taylor and Patrick Nagel.  The Top 9 in the 15 car field were on the lead lap at the end.  Siewell won again in the next feature, and Robison continued to be the model of consistency with her second place finish.  Robison has yet to finish outside the Top 3 this season.  Taylor, Beard, Sullivan, Vandre, Young, Warmack, Nagel and Matt Butler were Top 10 as the Top 9 were again on the lead lap.  Reiber won his six lap heat race over Butler, while Taylor won the other heat ahead of Beard.

Eric Tackett and Ken Dunnagan were the stars of the Side By Side UTV's with 12 lap feature wins.  Tackett just beat Dunnagan back to the line to win the first Main Event as Justin Barron, Shannon Krohn and Curtis Zeissler took checkered flags on the lead lap.  Dunnagan won the six lap heat, just ahead of Tacket, and then won the second 12 lap main in a near photo finish in front of Krohn, Barron, Zeissler and Tackett as they all took checkered flags on the lead lap.

Racing takes a one week break from the oval track before returning on May 20th for K&N Engineering Fan Appreciation Night.  On the card will be the Winged Sprints, Super Late Models, Sportsman Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Outlaws, Hornets, Dwarf Cars and Humboldt Motorsports Side By Sides UTV's.  For further information, go to www.coosbayspeedway.us.

Martin, Whitson, Ross Win At Orland Raceway

Orland, CA...The season opened at Orland Raceway on Saturday night with a full slate of divisions competing on the one-fifth mile dirt oval.  When checkered flags flew on those races, Main Event wins were recorded by Steve Martin (Pure Stocks), Jackie Whitson Jr. (250 Micros) Keith Ross (Mini Trucks), Sean Perry (Mini Stocks), Mavel Michelet (600 Micros) and Josh Jacobo (Wingless Gas Sprints).

Steve Martin enters the season as a two time reigning Pure Stock champion, and he shows no signs of slowing down.  Martin had to battle past Mini Truck champion Brad Ray and division rookie Keith Ross for the win.  Martin ran strong and took the checkered flag in the 20 lap race ahead of Ray and Ross.  Rookie Ethan Benzel finished fourth, while recent Chico winner Shannon Collins settled for fifth.  2016 championship runnerup Jeremy Langenderfer finished sixth ahead of Chris Barnett, Jeremiah Creedon, Cody Bundy and John Camper.   Ray and Ross each won eight lap heat races.

Jackie Witson Jr. opened the 250 Micro season with an impressive 20 lap feature win.  Whitson is no stranger to the winner's circle as he has won several times in the past few seasons.  Whitson scored the win ahead of Jamie Barnes and Jackie Whitson Sr.  2015 champion Jess Garland finished fourth ahead of Monica Aldrich and Ronnie Heyer.  Whitson Jr. and Garland were eight lap heat race winners.

Keith Ross isn't content to run Pure Stocks.  The past Mini Truck champion still has his truck.  Ross battled reigning champion Dan Webster before winning the 20 lap Mini Truck feature.  2013 champion Ross Vige placed third, followed by William Fogle and Jeremy Callen.  Ross made it a clean sweep as he held off Webster for the eight lap heat race win.

Sean Perry returned after a year off and won the 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event.  John Kirkpatrick won his second championship last season, but he did it without a feature win.  Kirkpatrick gave it a good effort, but he was forced to settle for second behind the flying Perry.  Donnie Fortney finished third ahead of Barbara Crain.  Tom Davis might have been the man to beat after winning his eight lap heat race, but he struggled to a fifth place finish in the feature.

The Wingless Gas Sprints are back after a season off.  The division is a more economical Sprint Car with a 360 cast iron motor and a two barrel carburetor that runs on gasoline.  Multi time champion Josh Jacobo won their feature race ahead of David Johnson and Josh Tucker.  Two of the 600cc motorcycle engine Micro Sprints competed, and Mavel Michelet won that race ahead of Kyra Michelet.

Racing resumes on May 19th as they race during the Glenn County Fair.  The Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, Mini Trucks and Micro Sprints will be competing.  There will also be a special Powder Puff RV Destruction Derby.  For further information, go to www.orlandraceway.org.
