Deubert Opens Southern Oregon Speedway
Late Model Season With Impressive Victory

White City, Oregon...May 12...Taking the lead from reigning champion Nathan Augustine on lap 20, Miles Deubert went on to win the 25 lap Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Deubert is the 2014 Street Stock champion and won a pair of Pro Stock Main Events at the track in 2016. His win came aboard the car that Kyle Coen drove to the 2017 Madras Speedway championship.

A disappointing heat race effort put Deubert back in the fourth row for the Main Event, and John Dees charged into the lead at the start ahead of Mike Linder and Augustine. By lap four, the flying Dees had a half straightaway lead, and Augustine made an inside pass in Turn 4 of the sixth lap to take second from Linder. Moments later, John Dees spun in Turn 4 to lose the lead. Augustine led Linder on the restart as Deubert was already up to third. Deubert slipped underneath Linder in Turn 2 of the 11th lap to take over second. At that point, Augustine had about a half straight away lead, but Deubert steadily reeled him in. Deubert caught Augustine and made an inside pass in Turn 4 of the 20th lap to take the lead. Meanwhile, John Dees was making his charge back to the podium as he battled Linder for third. An inside pass in Turn 3 of the final lap gained John Dees the third position. Deubert ran smoothly down the stretch and scored a well-earned victory in his first start in a full on Late Model. Augustine settled for second ahead of John Dees, Linder and Garrett Dees.

Linder held off Augustine to win the first six lap heat race, and John Dees outran brother Garrett Dees to win the second heat. The Late Models will be part of the program this Saturday night. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

First Win For Ashtin Hedges In JOAT Labs Hornets
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...Ashtin Hedges scored his first career JOAT Labs Hornets Main Event win Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. The talented teen leadfoot won his heat race earlier in the evening and went flag-to-flag for the victory in the 20 lap feature. It was no gimme as Hedges had to hold off reigning champion Jason Stoutenburgh and season opener winner Brandon Wonsyld down the stretch. Wonsyld made a late move past Stoutenburgh to finish second. The Hornets were one of the four 4-cylinder divisions in action as part of the Four Cylinder Frenzy event.

The wins belonged to the Hedges family in the heat races as Jenna Hedges won the first six lapper ahead of Dylan Irving and Ashtin Hedges outran Stoutenburgh in the second heat. Irving beat Stoutenburgh to win the four lap Trophy Dash.

Ashtin Hedges charged into the lead at the start of the Main Event, followed by Stoutenburgh and Jenna Hedges. The younger Hedges and Stoutenburgh quickly pulled away for a two car battle as Wonsyld moved in to battle Jenna Hedges for third. An inside pass in Turn 4 of the sixth lap gained Wonsyld the third position, and Irving slipped off the track in Turn 3 for a lap seven yellow flag. Ashtin Hedges continued to lead Stoutenburgh and Wonsyld on the restart. It was a three-car battle out front as Derrel Nelson Jr ran fourth ahead of Jenna Hedges. On lap 13, contact sent Irving into the front wall as he got his front wheels into the air and landed hard. Irving was okay. Nelson pitted with a flat tire. Ashton Hedges continued to lead Stoutenburgh and Wonsyld on the restart. Hedges pulled away just a little bit as Wonsyld was pressuring Stoutenburgh for second. An inside pass in Turn 2 of the final lap gained Wonsyld the runner up spot. However, there was no stopping Ashtin Hedges as he won ahead of Wonsyld, Stoutenburgh, Jenna Hedges, Tim Hedges, Chris Boynton, Zach Nelson, Ethan Doty, Brea Tricthler and John Ferreira, all on the lead lap.

The Hornets will be back in action as part of the big June 2nd Roger Haudenshild Tribute Race. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Steele Continues To Roll In Mini Stocks
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...David Steele scored his second win of the year and his fifth consecutive win in Mini Stock competition at Southern Oregon Speedway. This was also the eighth consecutive time that Steele won the Main Event that he started when you count his starts in Yreka. Steele won the 20 lap Main Event, six lap heat race and four lap Trophy Dash for a clean sweep. The Mini Stock division was one of the four 4-cylinder cylinder classes in action as part of the Four Cylinder Frenzy event

The four lap Trophy Dash turned out to be a good battle between reigning champion Kristopher Mix, 2013 champion Steve Goetz and Steele. Steele prevailed ahead of Goetz. Mechanical issues put Garrett Fredrickson on the trailer early and the division lost two more cars after the heat race. Rookie Cameron Hall got sideways exiting Turn 2 in his heat race and was T-boned hard by Goetz. The famous #007 Pinto Wagon had its door caved in. Hall was okay, but the car is heading to the scrap yard. The team is working to get him a new ride. Steele prevailed in the heat race ahead of Mix.

Steele would lead all 20 laps of the Main Event with Mix in pursuit. The battle was for third as Hunter Magnan held the position until spinning on lap 11. Michael McCloud took over the spot after another Magnan spin on lap 14. Worried that he would receive a black flag for another yellow flag, Magnan gathered it back up and chased McCloud down once again. He made the pass for third on lap 19. Steele picked up the win ahead of Mix, Magnan and McCloud.

The Mini Stocks will be competing as part of the racing program this Saturday night. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Eric Aos Wins Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites Feature
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...Eric Aos scored of the victory in the 20 lap Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. The Late Model Lites were one of the four 4 cylinder divisions in action as part of the Four Cylinder Frenzy event.

It was Eric Aos winning the six lap heat race ahead of Greg Arnold. Arnold is racing this season in honor of good friend and past Southern Oregon Speedway Pro Stock competitor Tim Law, who passed away during the offseason. He has changed his car number to #39 in honor of Law.

In the Main Event, Eric Aos moved into the lead at the start ahead of Arnold. Aos was starting to pull away, leaving Arnold, Dusty Aos and Charlie Eaton to battle for second. Eaton had been battling with mechanical issues all night. The only yellow flag of the feature flew on lap 12 as Arnold had slipped off the pace from second and stalled with mechanical issues. Eric Aos continued to lead his son Dusty on the restart, but Eaton was running closely behind the younger Aos. As they worked the final lap, Eaton finally made his move underneath Dusty Aos for second in Turn 2. However, Eric Aos would not be denied as he won ahead of Eaton, Dusty Aos and Arnold.

The Valley Stor-All Late Model Lites will be back again as part of this Saturday night's racing program. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Wagner Wins Pro 4 West Modified Race
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...Rick Wagner scored the victory in the 20 lap Pro 4 West Modified Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Wagner and Barry Lampert put on a good battle for most of the race before Lampert was forced to settle for second.

For years, the Pro 4 West Modified division raced outdoors at most of the venues throughout Oregon. In recent seasons, they've been running the Salem Indoors Winter Series, and the last four championships have gone to members of the Ferrando family. Family patriarch Papa Tom Ferrando has coordinated this effort and he won the Indoor championship in 2017.

Barry Lambert outran Rick Wagner to win the six lap heat race. Wagner was debuting a new Pinto for this race. This was part of the Four Cylinder Frenzy event, and with their bigger tires, the Pro 4 West Modifieds timed in quicker than the track's regular Mini Stock class.

Lampert set the early pace in the Main Event ahead of Wagner. However, Wagner spun in Turn 2 to hand second to previous Medford winner Tobey Ferrando ahead of reigning Salem Indoor champion Thomas Ferrando. Wagner did not wait for a yellow. Papa Tom Fernando was struggling at the back of the pack trying to diagnose the issues with his car as he was lapped early along with Chris Tofte. A lap five caution flag flew when Wagner spun for a second time. Tobey Ferrando made a pit stop. Lampert continued to set the pace as Wagner moved in to challenge him for the lead. The two leaders had a good battle up front, and Wagner made an inside pass in Turn 2 of the 13th lap to gain the lead. There was a yellow flag for debris on lap 15, and Wagner continued to lead Lampert on the restart. There was no stopping Wagner at that point as he won with Lampert a strong second and Thomas Ferrando is solid third. Tofte, Papa Tom Ferrando and Tobey Ferrando rounded out the finishing order.

Word is that the Pro 4 West Modifieds will be invited back for a return engagement next season. If you want to keep up on what's going on with the group, look up the Pro 4 West Modifieds on Facebook. For further information on coming events at Southern Oregon Speedway, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Dave Sauer Wins First Silva Painting Destruction Derby
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 12...As advertised, the first of four scheduled Chris Silva Painting Destruction Derbies took place at Southern Oregon Speedway Saturday night. Drivers were competing for a $500 winner take all prize and a trophy. The track hopes to establish this as a part of the roster of divisions at the speedway.

Though the field was a bit light for the first Derby, the track was wet and the three competitors came out to end the night's activity with a bang. In competition for this one were Dave Sauer, Dillon Sauer and Chris Silva. The competitors took shots at each other to see who would be the last one standing. In the end, it was Dave Sauer rising above the rest for the $500 win and trophy.

The next Chris Silva Painting Destruction Derby is slated to happen on June 30th. There is plenty of time for competitors to get their cars ready for action. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Solberg, Smith Repeat At Douglas County Speedway

Roseburg, Oregon...May 12...Jeff Solberg scored his second straight victory in the 20 lap PRA Street Stock Main Event Saturday night at Douglas County Speedway. For second straight week, the reigning division champion had to battle Dale Roth for the win, but he managed to hold him off in a close finish. The rest of the competition had been lapped as Bill Stewart placed third ahead of Chris Lemon and Neil Pecor. The whole night, Roth and Solberg battled, but the only time Roth came out ahead was in qualifying with his fast lap of 16.583. Solberg was second quick at 16.806. They continued to have close races with Solberg coming out ahead in both the four lap Trophy Dash and eight lap heat race.

For the second straight week, Karl Smith dominated the Mini Stock Main Event in winning the 20 lapper by a lap ahead of Kiere Smith and reigning champion Chuck Jacobs. Dale Roth ended up fourth. Carl Smith set the fast lap of 17.264 and beat the 18.080 of Roth. Kiere Smith won a photo finish with Jacobs for the four lap Trophy Dash victory, and Carl Smith out dualed Roth to win the eight lap heat race.

Ron Johnson turned in a rather dominate performance in winning the 30 lap Hornet Main Event. Johnson took the checkered flag by over a half lap ahead of Bruce McMasters. McMasters was a solid second as Pete Lemon was the only other lead lap finisher. Cherish Wilson was a lap down in fourth as Ron Harvey, Scott Carroll, Tyler Organ, Tom Durant and Jeremy Mayfield rounded out the finishing order. McMasters set the fast time standard with a 20.250 lap, beating the 20.547 lap of Johnson. Wilson outran Bart Pulse to win the Trophy Dash, and the duo ran 1-2 in the first eight lap heat race. Johnson won the other heat race by a straightaway ahead of McMasters.

Rounding out the program was a Pro 4 20 lap Main Event, which was won by Rich McCoy in a close race with Dustin Knight. Jeff Proudy and Casey Osuna were both a lap down in third and fourth, respectively. Knight set the fast time of 15.273, beating the 15.707 of McCoy. Knight also won the four lap Trophy Dash ahead of McCoy, but McCoy claimed the eight lap heat race win in front of Knight.

Another night of racing next Saturday night will feature the NSRA Sprint Cars along with the regular PRA Modifieds, Hardtops and Hornets. For further information, go to www.douglascountyspeedway.com.

Thorson, Peckham, Hall Win At Silver Dollar Speedway

Chico, CA...May 11...Tanner Thorson scored the victory in the 25 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. Reigning champion and incoming point leader Andy Forsberg set the early pace ahead of Kalib Henry. Thorson made his move into the Top 5 on lap four and was fourth at the lap 10 caution flag. Forsberg continued to set the pace, but Thorson quickly made his move into the Top 3 and battled Forsberg. Thorson raced past Forsberg on a lap 13 restart and set a good pace out front. Forsberg was running second until falling back several positions on lap 21. Henry was back in second, but all he could do was chase the flying Thorson to the checkered flag. B Main winner Andy Gregg was a solid third ahead of Mason Moore, Shawn Conde, Kenny Allen, Jodie Robinson, Brad Bumgarner, Kirt Organ and Jake Wheeler.

Forsberg set the fast time of 11.950, beating the 12.039 of Thorson. There were four eight lap heat races, and Henry held off DJ Freitas to win the first one. Lucas Ashe outran Thorson to win the second heat with Conde beating Wayne Rowett to win the third heat. The final heat went to Moore ahead of Jodie Robinson. With 30 cars competing, they ran a 12 lap B Main, and Gregg won that race by over half a lap ahead of Cody Fendley, Korey Lovell, William Fielding and John Clark.

Andrew Peckham grabbed the victory in the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. The race was filled with caution flags during the first 12 laps as Ken Micheli set the pace ahead of Justin Foux. Peckham took second from Foux on lap nine, and Brian Cooper made this a three-car battle up front. Cooper took second from Peckham on lap 11, but he surrendered the position back to him on lap 13. Peckham was pressuring Micheli hard for the lead until making his winning move on lap 16. Once in front, Peckham sped home to the win, followed by Micheli, Cooper, Tyler Rodgers, Damien Merritt, Phil Marino, Mike Ficklin, Mike Merritt, Foux and Shawn Hulsey. There were two heat races with Rodgers winning the first one ahead of Faux and Peckham outrunning Phil Marino to win the second eight lapper.

Corey Hall won the 20 lap Street Stock Main Event. Reigning champion Phil Marino was going for his third feature win of the season and set the early pace ahead of Clinton Earl. Hall gained second on lap five, and a yellow flag slowed the pace on lap six. Marino continued to lead the persistent Hall on the restart, but Hall made his winning pass on lap nine. Hall began to pull away from Marino, but a yellow flag flew on lap 15. Despite the slow down, Hall remained in command on the restart and brought it home to a well-earned victory. Marino held on to second until Brent Lawrence made a move around him on lap 19 to claim the spot. Marino settled for third ahead of Earl, Gary Newman, Ken Micheli, Richard Workman, Fritz Zanker, Scott Rogers and Danny Dozier. Lawrence won his eight lap heat race ahead of Earl, while Hall outran Marino to win the other heat.

Jeremy Langenderfer scored the victory in the 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event. Nick Vidovich led the opening lap before Langenferfer raced past for the lead. However, it remained close between these two with Vidovich regaining the lead on lap five. A lap nine caution flag provided Langenderfer with the opportunity to take the lead on the restart. Vidovich roared back in front on lap 11, but he lost the lead a lap later. Unfortunately for Vidovich, he limped to the pits at that point as Langenderfer built up a straightaway advantage to the checkered flag. Chris McGinnis finished second, followed by Mel Beyers, Jim Brookshire, Earl Adams, Colin Ferguson, Vidovich, Shannon Collins and Jim West. Vidovich battled Langenderfer to win the eight lap heat race.

Reigning champion Tony Richards won the 15 lap Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event. Ron LaPlant set the early pace, but Richards began pressuring him by lap five. A lap eight pass gained Richards the lead, and he held it all the way to the checkered flag. LaPlant settled for second. Brent Youngman made a last-lap pass on Troy DeGaton to finish third as Kevin Box and Justin Funkhouser rounded out the finishing order. DeGaton won the eight lap heat race ahead of Richards.

Silver Dollar Speedway is dark next week, but there is activity on the oval during the County Fair. On May 25th, there is an Arena/Supercross event. The next night, the track has its annual 200 lap Enduro and Sunday will be the Civil War Sprint Car Series. The next regular series event will be on June 8th, featuring Winged 360 Sprints, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Modifieds. For further information, go to www.silverdollarspeedway.com.
