Hibbard Opens Sprint Car Season With Win
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...May 5...Grabbing the lead early on, David Hibbard sped to an impressive victory in the 25 lap Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Hibbard set a rapid pace in posting the $1,000 victory in his Dave's Carpet And Vinyl Liquidators sponsored Sprinter. Fourteen year old phenom Tanner Holmes won a spirited duel with Enrique Jaime to collect the second place finish.

Bailey Hibbard used his win in the six laps Scramble to grab the pole position for the Main Event, but second place Scramble finisher Jaime charged into the lead ahead of Jeffrey Hudson and David Hibbard at the green flag. David Hibbard made a move around Hudson for second on lap four, and Jaime was lapping a slower car. Hibbard used the slower car to gain some momentum and made the low pass in Turn 2 for the lead on lap six. Once Hibbard got the lead in the non-stop event, he rapidly pulled away from the pack. Holmes moved past Hudson for third on lap eight and set his sights on Jaime. The battle was between Jaime and Holmes for several laps for that second spot, but Jaime was doing an exceptional job of protecting his position. However, Holmes found an opening in Turn 4 of the 20th lap and slipped underneath Jaime to gain second. David Hibbard was off to a huge lead that he took to the checkered flag. Holmes posted his best finish yet in second, followed by Jaime, Hudson and final lead lap finisher Blaine Cory. Marissa Henson took a checkered flag in sixth as Theron Smith, Calvin Hibbard, Bailey Hibbard and Steve Thompson rounded out the Top 10.

There were 12 competitors in the pits, but Todd Whipple and Camden Robustelli suffered mechanical issues that forced them to scratch from the feature. Jaime won his six lap heat race ahead of Cory, and Bailey Hibbard held off his father, David Hibbard, to win the other heat. The Kendall Oil Winged Sprint Cars, presented by Hays Oil, return for the Open Wheel Showcase Event on May 26th. For further information, go to www.southernoregonspeedway.com.

Welshonse continued to lead Ohlde and Duste on the restart, and Trenchard moved into third on lap eight. Welshonse's great run up front ended as he pitted off the back stretch on lap nine. Ohlde had the lead at that point ahead of Trenchard and Wauge. An inside move down the front stretch of the 12th circuit put Trenchard into the lead, and Wauge raced past Ohlde for second a lap later. Ohlde's great run up front ended as he pitted on lap 14, putting Duste back into third. The battle was on between Trenchard and Wauge, but Wauge made a Turn 3 move around Trenchard for the lead on lap 19. Once in front, Wauge brought it home to victory.
